December 31, 20213 yr Have to plug Tango Room. My new favorite steakhouse in town right now. It’s in the old FT33 spot (although it looks nothing like it now). Small space, kind of a New York cool old Frank Sinatra type vibe. Food and service is the best I’ve had in Dallas in a really really long time. It’s chill and quiet. Great date place. Prepare your wallet’s anus, but worth it IMO.

Not for the faint of wallet, but it’s appropriately priced IMO. We’ve been 4 times now and I’ve yet to find a single misstep. Every bite of food has been perfect, every staff member from hostess to waiters to bussers to managers to bartenders have been flawless, every drink has been prepared perfectly, phenomenal wine list, space is great. We’ve given them plenty of chances to fuck something up. Even something small. But they haven’t yet. I guess you get what you pay for. 1 hour ago, DalTxHornFan said: That menu looks great. Yep, it’s exactly that type of place. I’ve had a lot of martinis there and each one has been perfection. Hell I’d probably take up smoking if they’d let me, just to complete the total package.
May 17, 20223 yr A bit of reality, a bit of satire Steakhouse Arms Race is Back Seriously, who buys these $200+ steaks? I'm not shy about spending money on meals, but that level of steak is just not a thing for me. The steakhouse experience is as much about the sides and the martinis and the wine. I would happy with a perfect $40 8oz filet and lots of fun stuff around it. But, now it's $60 if it is even on the menu.
March 5, 20232 yr Had Knife recently as it had been years. Food is amazing while service is a disaster. Not sure why you all don't give this place more love. Price/quality is outstanding but again service was a trainwreck.

March 28, 20232 yr If you want a really puny ribeye, try Haywire at Legacy. Cool space but the food didn’t do much for me.
April 1, 20232 yr Went to Chamberlain’s on Belt Line and got a much better ribeye. Pretty good spot considering we were able to just walk in.

April 5, 20232 yr Not exactly a steakhouse but it’s next to Chamberlains. Went to Brentwood Saturday as wife and I were in the area, and wanted to see how it compared to the late Houston’s. My boss loved Houston’s so we ate there whenever he came to town. They brightened it up a bit. A few Houston’s items remain. Ribs, chicken tenders, spinach dip. We got oysters Rockefeller and hitch were very good, an order of ribs and tenders. The tenders were fabulous as usual, the ribs very good as well if you like baby backs with a heavy bbq sauce covering them, which I do.
September 15, 20232 yr Knife in Plano. Nice enough place, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders, pedestrian ribeye. Nice sized cut but too lean so not very tender. Good apps though.

Casita (used to be called something else) was solid too -- but didn't the owner pass away suddenly not too long ago?
November 21, 20232 yr The last time I was over that way was to buy a whole pig at Costco Business Center in the summer. There were lots of shady vagrant types hanging out on Shady Brook. Costco parking lot had plenty of security keeping them out. Two blocks away from the steak joint. Maybe errything has been gentrified and made safe at this new steak joint by now?
January 30, 20241 yr I’ll be in Dallas this Saturday and would love a rec for great steak. Some place that I can walk in and eat at the bar without a reservation. Not concerned about price, but I’d prefer not having to throw a jacket on after 2 days of meetings. Staying at The Joule but will Uber anywhere. Also, suggestions for a place to watch CBB in the afternoon would be appreciated. Thanks.
January 30, 20241 yr walkable: brass ram The saint uber: town hearth del frisco’s Hero, Happiest Hour, or Katy Trail Ice House for game watching.

You should check out CBD Provisions in the lobby of the Joule. I imagine it does steaks really welll, and, if nothing else, it has (at least it used to have) an interesting menu and earned critical acclaim. There's an Irish Pub in the Mercantile Building down the street from you that probably also has decent game watching opportunities. Other places within walking distance are one or more bars in the ATT Discovery Center just down the block from you, American Anthem (has several TVs for games and a very good menu--Nick Badovinus venture), Press Box Grill (nothing fancy but has several TVs for games).

Very minor tack on that it’s National Anthem, and indeed is pretty good.
March 7, 20241 yr Author Dallas Observer liked Steakyard. I didn't realize it was by the people behind Delucca Pizza, which I haven't tried either. https://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/the-steakyard-in-dallas-18700433

January 28Jan 28 Agreed. I didn't think it would last 18 months. People that invest in places like that continue to just completely misunderstand the Dallas market. They somehow assume the "trendy" Dallas stereotype is sufficient to compete and grab market share from the numerous established high end steakhouses. I don't know a single person that ever ate there. My steak rotation is pretty much Al B's and Del Frisco's with the occasional Nick and Sam's or Bob's (although has been 2+ years since I've been to either of those). I'm not surprised about Morton's either. I always assumed they somewhat relied on business lunches or weekday business happy hours/dinners from Crescent and surrounding offices our visitors staying nearby rather than 'big night out' Friday/Saturday nights (which I assume is significantly more lucrative).
January 29Jan 29 Had a client event at Perry’s in Grapevine a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday. I couldn't believe how busy they were. Looked like they were printing money. Plenty of 20 something’s out as well.
January 29Jan 29 Nuri got a solid review in D Magazine. steakhouse with a Korean flair. https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2025/january/nuri-jolts-dallas-steakhouse-scene-with-new-energy/ Quote Sometimes, even in a positive restaurant review, you figure that a restaurant has reached its final form and it’s best to accept it the way it is now. At Nuri, the good things are good, the great things are great, and the improvements could be simple. The return on that $20 million investment is the biggest jolt of energy Dallas steak culture has gotten in a decade.

June 7Jun 7 Was replying to Buzzrock on a different thread and thought I would come here. After year+ of living in the heart of downtown, I'll throw out a (maybe or maybe not) controversial pick for the best Filet in town. It's at The Woolworth. Not a steakhouse, per se, but...for $54...they deliver time and again. The rest of their menu is consistently executed flawlessly. Never had an even remotely mediocre experience. We usually sit at the bar and have a blast with the staff. Patio is always nice for a fair-weather day, too. At the bar: Noel is a lovely fellow who knows his brown liquor. Yoanna is the queen of the cocktail and subversive conversation. Sarah (also of City Tavern) and Kayla aren't neophytes, either. Just my $0.02.
September 16Sep 16 Finally got around to trying Al Biernat's on Oak Lawn. Doesn't crack my top 10 at all. Steak was pretty average, sides were horrendous, and it was too loud inside. Seems more like a place to see and be seen rather than a legit restaurant.

I've never had a bad meal there but possibly some nostalgia clouding that as I've been going for 20 years now. Maybe an off night if that is the review (never had bad sides or a steak that wasn't solid) although haven't been in over a year though now that I think of it. Pappas Bros. might be the best with the worst location. Haven't been in almost 10 years and doubt I will any time soon. Plenty of good steaks that are half the drive or less and might actually have a place nearby for pre or post dinner drinks.

Tango Room is fantastic and a totally different vibe from other steakhouses. It's very small. It ain't cheap though. I also hear great things about Evelyn.
September 27Sep 27 For me (because I don’t do it often), a big night a steakhouse is about the experience as much as it is about what I eat and drink. At the highest level, the top Dallas steakhouses will deliver on food on and wine. That’s why Pappas Bros is not for me. I went to a few business dinners there and that location just brought me down. Al Biernet’s and Dakota’s are my go to’sThat being said, we went to Evelyn a while back and damn, it was great. Hollywood glam, disco music, people dressed up. It was a fun night out and the food, especially the steak, was spot on. We booked it for our anniversary.
