You’re friends with MJ Fox and you let him try out your new nv scope?

Next video I'll have it on a tripod and will get some steady shots.  It's impossible to hold the thing steady by hand while toggling the different buttons.

Got my ass out of bed this morning at 1:45am and took out this boar.  Video is the full stalk.  Man, cell game cameras have really changed the game as far as hog hunting.  No way my 50 year old ass is

  • Well, on Monday night I passed on a group of hogs because there was still a little daylight and I wanted to christen this thing in the darkness.  I figured they would hang at the feeder until the sun

  • Figured it was time for a bump. Took this swine out this evening.

Sorry, no tripod, but I used the truck window to get a scan of our lake bed from the damn and caught quite a bit of activity for a short stint last night.  Image quality is degraded down to 720P (Thanks Vimeo), but you get the idea of this optic's capabilities here.  Keep in mind the humidity was about 80% while I was shooting this---

So when you gonna start killing shit with it?

I decided to make the jump from 384 to 640. Just bought an iRay Rico Mk1 V2 to replace my Super Hogster. Took delivery yesterday and got a pig that night. My shooting left a lot to be desired, so that video will not be made public. Lol.  Did better tonight.  Quick review on the scope.  This thing is built like a tank. A lot longer and heavier than the SH.  I normally run black hot, but white hot looks best on this scope for some reason. The audio mic on this scope is pretty damn good. A lot better than audio from other integrated scopes I’ve heard on YouTube. Look forward to killing more shit with it soon. I’m selling my SH if anyone is interested. Great scope.

Drove up on some Nilgai the other night. Didn’t seem to be too concerned about me. Didn”t shoot, so not a kill video

Good eating there.  Didn’t know y’all had Nilgai on your place.

I wonder how long till you spot some Agapitos out there on your thermal?

Whats up with the range finder being on 268 yards for all those scans?

I think what you're seeing there is that there are two yardage readings.  The one in the middle of the screen is static from when I hit the "range" button and then if you look early on when the bobcat was stalking up in the right hand corner you'll see the fluid, real-time range on whatever is inside the box in the reticle.

If I'd hit the "range" button again a few times you'd see different yardage values in the middle of the screen.  It's a way to mark a spot, so to speak.  If I've got that correct, the kitty was 180ish yards out in the beginning and and the brush line behind it was 268ish.

I'm still learning here, but that's what I think.

Took this sow out this morning at 5:36 am.  Checked my camera, saw that there was a hog there, went out to the porch in only my underwear and dispatched it.

Distance? Caliber?

Not sure on the distance.  50 to 75 yards. PSA 300 BLK pistol with 8.5 in barrel. SilencerCo Hybrid 46 can. It was louder because I was standing under a covered porch. In my underwear.

So I've been having a group of three adult and three juvenile hogs showing up at my feeder for several weeks.  My thought was initially to not blast them until the little ones are old enough to thrive (and fuck) on their own so they can create more hogs for me to shoot down the road.  You see, I am a true steward of wildlife.  I went out the other night with the intention of opening up on them, but when I saw the little hogsters gleefully running towards the feeder from a tree line about 400 yards away eagerly anticipating the 8pm feeder distribution time I got soft hearted and decided to spare them for another night.  This is the third time I have spared this group of swine.

Anyway, since I was not going to shoot, I decided to turn on my e-caller which has a pig in distress call on it.  Upon turning this on, one of the three adults looked up and made a bee line towards the e-caller which was situated right under my 10 foot stand.  He looked around a little while and proceeded further to investigate.  The video below is from the others looking towards the investigating pig to find out what was going on.

Point 1 of my post:  I've seen people call on hogs on YouTube but have not tried myself.  This proves to me that the bastards will come to one of these callers, so I may have to try this method soon.

Point 2 of my post:  What the hell am I doing sparing the lives of these swine because of these cute little piglets?  If this gets out, it could really damage my reputation as the Brooks County Hog Slayer, although it might help my reputation with the libtards who frequent the cloak room.  I need to return to being the hardened killer I once was.

Wtf? Kill all hogs with extreme prejudice. They aren't your playthings to let breed just so you can kill some more. If you run out of pigs, good. There are plenty of other predators to go after.

I once beat a piglet to death with a branch. 🙂 Take no prisoners.

I didn't spend all this money recently upgrading my thermals to shoot coons and tlacuaches.  Coyotes are worthy adversaries, but they don't show up consistently for me.  I have to manage the swine heard wisely to ensure a target rich environment for myself and future generations.

I did take down one of the adults the other night and shot and missed the second adult while running off.  I did let the piglets run off with Momma for the reasons enunciated above.  Video evidence below.  The pig I dropped in the video got up and ran off after being on the ground about 2 or 3 minutes. I was unable to place a running shot on him.  My only thought is that I hit him in the head area with a non lethal round and it knocked him silly.  There were no birds feasting in the area yesterday so it ran off somewhere.  The pig family did show up on the game camera last night and only two adults were with the three juveniles, so that hog must be dead or laid up convalescing somewhere. Side note:  Those are Nilgai in the background.  Yes, I know I could shoot them at night, but they are like my pets now, so they get a pass.

Was able to very skillfully dispatch of two pigs last night. Hot and humid MF'er out there.  Not great thermal conditions for sure.

Woke up at 2am last night here at the ranch and couldn't get back to sleep, so I grabbed the Pulsar and decided to scan behind the house.  What I saw (no shot b/c there are a lot of cattle back there and sorry for the shake - things are hard to hold still free hand)...

You must always be ready to engage a target....

@cabowabo

ROE was a hard & fast no green on green with boucoup friendlies in the kill zone, so I went toothless.

So what’s the best current value for something to whack pigs at night from 100-120 yards?  All the feeders at my lease are very close and I want something easy and cost effective so I don’t feel bad sending a teenager out to use it.  I got a hog light last year and it sucked so I’m looking for something better than that.

Maybe NV instead of thermal?

@USCATX check out https://www.youtube.com/c/TheLateNightVisionShow and literally call Outdoor Legacy and Jason and/or Hans will hook you up.  I haven’t posted about this yet, but I was looking for a thermal for a 6.5 Grendel pistol and I researched for months.  Part of the research was watching that show.  I called the shop, and Jason called me back in 5 minutes.  We spent an hour OTP working through use cases I never thought about.  He gave me solid options and actually saved me $ by me not choosing something that was overkill for my needs. I bought and I’m putting together the platform - hope to post soon.  Regardless, at a minimum you get an opinion from those guys - zero sales pressure when you call.  Good luck, and post results!

Of course there’s a podcast.  Why didn’t I think to check?   I love a good podcast and will check it out.

AGM stuff is pretty good for the money

I have the AGM Rattler TS25-256 that I bought two years or so ago and I still love it. Maybe someday I will upgrade but it will be hard for me to get away from AGM. Great stuff.

TS35-384 here.

Thinking about getting the clip on version as well.

Man, I wasn't gonna do the ranch thing this weekend, but with humidity levels down around 30% I'm not sure it can be resisted.

I've got a sightmark wraith that was around $400 I think?  I've taken it out a few times and it is good out to about 100 yds with the stock IR illuminator.  It would be better with an upgraded illuminator like the coyote cannon or similar.  I didn't want to make the full thermal investment for as little as I am able to get out at night, and so far it's served its purpose.  It's a bit of a pain to have to deal with the separate illuminator, and follow up shots are impossible as the smoke from the shot reflects the IR and washes out the picture.  With a little more in the budget, I'd go thermal, especially as the prices continue to come down

Same. I've used mine on trash pandas trying to raid my feeder. Mine is the 4x, but I wish I had bought the 2x for a better field of view. You don't really need the extra magnification at the ranges it is good for, and our land is timbered,  so I don't really have any need to upgrade the illuminator.

Same, I run a wraith with the accompanying illuminator but my BiL has a really nice Ir illuminator that he brings out when I go with him.

I also run an AGM taipan thermal scanner which helps me.

My BiL has a super hogster that is great but it requires you to put your actually sights on what you’re scanning and sometimes that ain’t safe on my property. So the scanner helps find heat signatures while they are down by the road or the neighbors cattle.

I just came over to this thread to see what others are using to support this heavy shit. I have an older Wrath mounted on a semi-auto Ruger .22 magnum. Fucking thing is bulky, and really needs to be on some type of support. No doubt It’s an Armadillo killing machine, but damn thing is unwieldy for being so compact. And you’re spot on for trying to cycle through the different features while hand holding. Any recommendations?
