Found some Tom Penders era footage that some of you old farts might like

I guess this was a recruiting video that my dad put together with Ron Franklin. My how times have changed.

Gotta love those old barns like Barnhill, G. Rollie White, Autry(although it's still there just different name) of the SWC.

I remember the year they opened the Drum.  A student ticket was $10, lower level, for the whole season.  Of course, I think my tuition that year was something like $250 (no, I'm not kidding).

Dude this awesome. Thanks for posting.

Dang, the seats in the FEC (drum) are full in all those video clips.  It's been years since I've seen anything but empty seats.

The program has gone thru a weird history. With Abe there was just fun and excitement that came with relatively low expectations.
Then Kaiser Bob came in and destroyed the program.

Penders was a massive breath of fresh air that reinvigorated the program with a higher scoring, no defense style that was exciting to watch. And he got the team into the tournament a lot and won some conference titles. He really elevated the program and that’s where the fans started to set real standards. That is what really built the sustainable crowds. Then they got tired of no defense towards the end of his tenure.

I’ve never been more excited than when I saw the first Barnes teams. They played defense and looked so different than Penders’ teams. Yet Penders still deserves some credit for elevating the program and driving crowds, even though he’s a bit of a piece of sh*t in real life.

I never noticed what a yankee accent Penders had.  He sounds like a fucking goombah in that video.  I think he ditched it pretty quick.

Also, the history of the "proud Texas program" was sad.

Also, I resent being called an old fart.

Some of my fav first memories of my time at Texas were playing pickup games with some of the early 90's players.  I took, what would have been a charge, from Albert Burditt and almost got deaded.  I also got a concussion from trying to block a fast break layup by - I think - BJ Tyler.

Must be CGI. Derka negged me once for disagreeing with him that that Rick Barnes was the only coach to ever pack the Drum.

yeah that's not true. i've never even claimed as much, which is why you don't have the receipts. but hey, fuck it, make up whatever you want if it makes you feel better.

yeah, no, i mean that totally sounds realistic. first i claimed that the FEC never sold out until Rick Barnes arrived, and then I negged you when you claimed otherwise. totally believable.

If that's what you want you believe.

post a link since you remember so clearly that it's impacted you so severely. post the receipts or don't talk.

Dios mio, man. Don't make me go Locksley Collie upside both y'all's heads.

Maybe some Albert Burditt, too, for good measure.

i just came up to the school where i used to work to get some stuff done, and they were having basketball practice, and it turns out our coaches are thomas hill (duke), bj tyler, and chico vázquez. chris bosh was also there for some reason.

anyway, i was looking for an old post here where i had found a bunch of old UT basketball cards because i was going to show BJ the kind of absurd number of rookie cards of his that i own lol. never found that thread, but found this one with some unread posts, and here we are. wild day.
