Thanks y’all. Yea at this point the absolute max I’d be doing distance wise would be a 6 mile commute to work once a week, mostly flat. Can always upgrade when I inevitably get hooked and want to go further.

Yeah. $200 is nothing for cycling.

Lights, tools, jerseys, fancy prance about bib shorts, shoes, tires, sealant, bike computer, etc.  It never ends.

Yea, picked her up Saturday. Already got to go to the bike shop as I had never seen a presta valve and needed an adapter, so it begins

I’ve gotten back into road cycling. New wheels BOYD. I also grabbed some new shoes (Giro Imperial II), new bar tape and new helmet. All of my gear was approaching 10 years old.

As promised, I went back to Vail this year with the family for the GoPro Mountain games.

Did not ride nearly as much as last year, but did manage to extend my long ride all the way to Copper and back.

No cool pics since I took more video this year.

Rode my first and probably for a while, last century today. Group i usually ride with road the Katy Flat Lands ride. I need to be much faster to ride 100 miles and not be miserable. Takes too long if you’re not in a pace line rolling 25mph or so.

I ordered a new Litespeed Arenberg a couple weeks ago.  I'm moving up to electronic shifting and disc brakes for the first time on a road bike.  Stepped up for the Dura Ace groupset just because.  Really looking forward to the new whip in a few weeks.  The Arenberg is an "endurance" frameset with a little more upright riding position, shorter reach and taller stack.  I'm not getting any younger, and don't need a full race bike anyway.

I made the gradual shift from race geometry to endurance over a period of several years. Caad 10 to Cervelo RS to Giant Defy. I don’t think I ever noticed the subtle changes in the moment on the bike, but I do think I feel better after rides on the relaxed geometry of the Defy.
I was a late convert to electronic, shifting too, got ultegra di2 for the first time a couple years ago on the Defy.
The difference is wow.. never knew I was missing that.

I’m perfectly happy with mechanical shifting on a mountain bike that’s bouncing along and banging on stuff anyway.  But a crisp electronic shift on a smooth road is fucking glorious. That little “vvvvt” sound makes me smile.

PBS: From Rails to Trails . . .

The 60-year struggle to convert thousands of miles of abandoned railroads into trails for cycling and walking.

Facing fierce opposition and legal challenges from private property owners, leaders fought to reclaim these corridors for the public, creating a national network of scenic, car-free paths.
