May 6, 20187 yr Good Magic ran just about as good of a race as Justify. He chased that fast pace right behind Justify and really didn't lose much ground. Could be really good Preakness.

May 6, 20187 yr Buffett has now won 5 Kentucky Derby’s. He is 4-4 in the Preakness following those wins. I don’t think there is any reason to think that won’t be 5-5 in a couple weeks.

Brown says Good Magic is a maybe, but i bet he runs. i think the rest of them wait for the Belmont.
May 6, 20187 yr Quote On a rainy Saturday at Churchill Downs, anyone who stayed dry -- and maybe bet on Justify -- at the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby could be considered a winner. In sunny Las Vegas, one bettor won an even more impressive prize: $150,000 from a $500 futures bet on Justify to win the Derby at 300-1, placed all the way back in February at the Wynn. While not nearly as big as the futures market for mainstream sports like the NFL or NBA, a futures market does exist for the Kentucky Derby. And in this case, one respected bettor was rewarded for his foresight and a call right to the top of the Wynn sportsbook. "I got a call from a guy I know, a very respected horseman," Johnny Avello, executive director of Wynn Las Vegas' race and sportsbook, said on Friday's VSiN radio broadcast. He says to me, 'Johnny, I got a horse I want to bet in the future book.' I said, 'I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll give you 250-1.' "He says, 'Come on, Johnny.' I said, 'I'll give you 300-1.' Now he's sitting 300-1 on Justify at a big number." Part of the reason for the high odds? As Avello explained, Justify was one of two horses in Saturday's 1¼-mile race who didn't race at age 2 (the other was Magnum Moon). No horse since Apollo in 1882 has won the Derby after not racing as a 2-year-old. Avello confirmed to ESPN that the ticket posted was legitimate. There is a larger backstory surrounding the ticket, as respected professional bettor Bill Krackomberger wrote in a recent article for "Gaming Today." Krackomberger confirmed to ESPN that his friend received a call with information about Justify four days before it broke maiden and that this information was overheard, leading to the large futures ticket win. Justify won Saturday's Derby, paying $7.80, $6 and $4.40 (win/place/show).
May 7, 20187 yr Damn, this Austin woman really killed it. Quote Justify's victory in Saturday's Kentucky Derby was worth $1.432 million to the horse's owners -- and nearly as much to one Texas woman who picked five straight winners in Races 8-12 at Churchill Downs. The woman from Austin, Texas, won $1.2 million with her $18 Pick 5 bet, placed almost 1,100 miles away at Retama Park in Selma, Texas. Justify, going off at 3-1, had the surest odds of the winners chosen by the woman, who wasn't afraid to go with the long shot, scoring with Funny Duck at 40-1 in the Pat Day Mile, the 10th race of the day. "To bet that little amount of money and win $1.2 million is unheard of. In fact, it's the first time it's happened at Retama," track spokesperson Rachel Bagnetto told ABC News. The bettor, who asked not to be identified but posed for a photo with Retama Park's general manager, picked the winners in the eighth (Limousine Liberal, 4-1), ninth (Maraud, 8-1) and 11th (Yoshida, 10-1) races. Must have been crazy watching Justify’s easy win.
May 7, 20187 yr On 5/5/2018 at 7:33 PM, Mapache said: Damn, Mendelsshon must've really hated the mud, dead last by 73 links. Fortunately I put 50 bucks on Justify to win a minute before the race started. Front runners that break from the inside and stay out of the mud is usually good play. Justify didn't even have a speck of mud on his face while all the rest of the ponys where covered from head to toe. It is damn tough for horses from overseas to win the Derby. Especially as much as that horse spent in travel status over the past few months. That flight after Dubai takes a lot out of them. I left him completely out of all of my picks. I had a Justify on a wheel with Audible, Bolt D'oro and Vino and added a flyer on the D. Wayne Lucas' horse (Bravaso) since my dad used to work with him in his early years. Oh well.
May 7, 20187 yr Right now it sounds like Justify may be the only horse from the derby going to Pimlico (although Good Magic is still a possibility). Has that ever happened? If it does, what kind of odds will he have in the Preakness? 2-5 would be my guess and maybe 4-5 with Good Magic. I don’t know how he won’t be going for the triple crown at Belmont.

He had a rough trip in the Derby and was within a nose of 2nd place. He can beat Justify if he has a clean race. Edited May 8, 20187 yr by Mapache
May 8, 20187 yr He could, but Pletcher never runs his derby horses in the Preakness unless they win the derby.
May 15, 20187 yr Author i saw that good magic is running in the preakness, so the top 2 derby horses will be there. i really liked the way good magic finished the derby so hopefully we can get a good race between him and justify on saturday.

May 21, 20187 yr Set your DVRs for Saturday, June 2 @ 4:00p on NBC. Hour-long show called Dark Horses about the 1989 rivalry between Easy Goer & Sunday Silence. Fucking badass, watched it last night after luckily stumbling upon it. I was pretty young back then, so never knew all the family dynamics.
May 21, 20187 yr DVR set. I've read about that rivalry before. Another fun book is Wild Ride about Calumet Farm. https://www.amazon.com/Wild-Ride-Calumet-Americas-Premier/dp/0805042423 (It can be bought much cheaper than the Amazon link.)
June 9, 20187 yr Author who are you picking? i can get vino rosso @ 10-1 and i feel like that's a pretty solid price. i like hofburg, but he is not gonna be the horse that wins the race. no way.

Vinno Rosso is my horse too. Pletcher does well at Belmont. Love John Velazquez at Belmont. Pletcher might need to use his other horse to keep Justify honest on the front end, if he can. not a huge fan of this race though.
June 9, 20187 yr I also have Vino Rosso quite a bit. Biggest single bet will be a $15 exacta box 7,3,4,8. I will also have some tris and supers as well. Best of luck to everyone. Long shot I like is is restoring hope.
June 9, 20187 yr It’s a beautiful day here in NYC and I’m really looking forward to going to the track. It should be a lot of fun.
June 9, 20187 yr Author close to go time. trying to beat justify with win bets on vino rosso, blended citizen and bravazo
June 9, 20187 yr Author wow, i thought vino rosso had a real shot at the top of the stretch, but way to go justify!
June 9, 20187 yr This triple crown thing is becoming too easy. They need to look into making it more difficult... that was sarcasm in case case anyone didn’t pick up on it.

June 9, 20187 yr I can't believe that finish given how he eeked out a win in the Preakness. That horse kicked everyone's ass in that final stretch.
