December 7, 20196 yr Mom is moving to a senior apartment complex & scaling down. She has this fold out faced secretary with a matching curio above it & she is considering selling it. I think it probably dates to the 1920's, early 30's, not older. It has an Art Deco style to me, but obv. I could be way off. Def. not craftsman & looking @ the hinges & locks, I'm not thinking American Civil War or older. 1. Any guesses (based on these limited # of pics) as to the age & style? 2. Is it a set price to have someone come out or can this be done via pics (better detailed than these 2)? Obv. the sale would be furniture only. What's y'alls experience here? December 8, 20196 yr Author *posts picture of just corner of it*Odd... I had a 2nd pic included in the original posting. Showed the corner detail to sorta support my thesis that this is probably Art Deco style or 1920's -1930's.Other pic attached here.Sent from my SM-G950U1 using Tapatalk
December 8, 20196 yr most people prefer vertical furniture - that's going to knock the price down as well
December 9, 20196 yr I hate to break it to you, but the usual value of used furniture is $0. Edited December 9, 20196 yr by luke duke
December 9, 20196 yr I might try a consignment place. That's probably a unique enough and quality piece that it might fetch a couple hundo. But Luke's right, most of it is worth bupkis. Garage sale prices.
December 9, 20196 yr Author I have no F'n idea why TapaTalk rotated the pic 90. I can guarantee you I didn't take the pic landscape.
December 9, 20196 yr I ended up donating solid wood end tables with coffee table from the 1940’s because no one wanted it. Crazy. You can’t find solid wood anymore. The pieces were beautiful.
December 9, 20196 yr I second sending the pictures to one of the antique consignment stores in Austin. That's probably your best be for determining the value in the marketplace and actually selling the piece.

December 10, 20196 yr my initial reactions was Craigslist, will give you the value of the item. Consignment is always and option, but usually it's not really much money unless it sells immediately which is rarely the case. I did look very closely to see if mom left her bong out. I think she hid it behind the figurine...
December 13, 20196 yr When my in-laws died a few years ago, the consensus of several legit appraisers was - nobody wants brown (antiques) any more.
