January 19, 20241 yr @Herbie Hancock did you ever work with or know the Boots and Jeans store in Amarillo. Was a crazy busy store for years and had great customer service. The original owner sold it 2-3 times over the years. He would sell it and the new buyer would run it in the ground, then buy it back and build it back up to a well oiled machine, then sell it again. It was the best boot and hat store for several years.
January 19, 20241 yr No sir. I grew up in West Texas, not eastern New Mexico [emoji1787]. My only connection to Amarillo is TJ that runs the Cavender’s there. Before he got that store he ran the Abilene one and was an assistant at the corporate office in Tyler.
January 25, 20241 yr I think I posted these on the old site propped up on my desk. Forty years old this year. Justin’s C7470. Edited January 25, 20241 yr by DoobieWah
January 25, 20241 yr I’ve been on this site for 15 years. I know better than to answer that question.
January 31, 20241 yr I am appalled at the lack of quality with my second pair of Tecovas. I've worn them probably 15 times and the sole is beginning to separate from the instep. It looks to me like the outsole stitching is frayed and perhaps didn't go all the way through. Is that possible? I've going to take them to a Tecovas store. I bought them last summer. Looking at the prices of Tecovas vs. other boots now makes me think they've lost their way. I see that they have 185 dollar bedroom slippers now.

February 18, 20241 yr Never thought I'd be a boot wearer but here I am. My friend's dad was a western wear/boot guy, born and raised in SW Oklahoma. He had a pair of boots he wore for years until they had just worn out. My buddy went to a Lucchese outlet and got him a pair that was as close to the same style as he could find. His dad appreciated them and wore them once but said they just weren't the same. So my buddy took the old boots to some boot wizard, said the guy looked like he just fell out of a covered wagon and had all these ancient looking leather-working tools. The boot wizard took a couple months but got the old boots back to almost new. His dad nearly wept when he saw them. The new Lucchese's went into the closet until his dad passed away a few months ago. My buddy can't wear the new boots, but I can, so he just gave them to me. The model is the Bart, super pointed toe but IDGAF, they feel nice.

Lucchese is a completely bullshit bootmaker now. only D and EE widths. That's horseshit.
February 18, 20241 yr I had to get work boots again. Job-sites and deer camp are hard on boots. Went back to the Twisted X brand. They’re not terribly expensive, have unique styles and are incredibly comfortable on this old man’s feet. There are known Twisted X haters on this board. No me importa.
February 19, 20241 yr Wish I saw this before I got them. 13-14" calf measurement.. BFG must have bird legs

Twisted X makes a good work boot, I’ve heard. I’ve got a metric ton of wear out of a pair that get bad reviews, but have been great for me (Irish setters, ~4 years everyday wear). The soles are finally getting bald in some spots that could cause me issues if it contributed to an incident, so will probably replace soon. They were comfortable af from day 1, have been near everyday wear for last 4 years from job site to field to everyday wear. Based on the reviews I didn’t expect them to last half as long, but steel isn’t even showing. Just a couple of bald spots.
February 21, 20241 yr I know Cuero boots have gotten some love and hate on this board. Just wanted to pass along that they currently have a 50% sale right now. Just purchased a pair of their "Eastwood" for $120 shipped. They are Tecovas knockoffs, so that's what you're getting. FYI, their checkout is wonky - you can't use any autofill on the credit card / address forms as it won't complete the order.

Think I’ll keep them around a bit for an extra pair but going to get me a new set this weekend I guess. Just after bragging on them… Still comfortable af but it’s time.
March 29, 20241 yr Last pair I’m buying for a while. Olathe rough outs. Those are sharp. A younger Herbie would have zero issue stepping out to chase fat girls in those.

March 31, 20241 yr Well I gave in and bought my first pair of Lucchese boots. I said to myself, if they make a good looking pair for under $600, I’ll pull the trigger.

I had a pair last year and was disappointed at how long they lasted.
March 31, 20241 yr I don’t want to talk Up Tecovas, but they sent me a new pair of goat skin boots no questions asked. I contacted them and told them the lining was drooping after about a year and the boots no longer fit. I received the new pair the next day.

I really like the transition of the tanning at the toe and corner. That being said, I’ve worn them with light use about 20 times, and the toe box on the right boot beneath the exterior leather has torn at a right angle. They’re now unwearable and cuero won’t do anything about it. Cheap boots are cheap quality. Will not buy again.
June 15, 20241 yr A kudos for Lucchese. A very nice young man spent the better part of an hour making sure my wife’s order will arrive early next week. Upgraded me to 2 day shipping for free. She’ll look good at her interview. Edited June 15, 20241 yr by billfromlaketravis
June 17, 20241 yr I have two pair of Lucchese snip toes that I've had close to 10-15 years old now. One in cherry and one closer to a saddle brown. I wear them with suits, jeans, chinos, etc. I don't have any exotics and was thinking of buying some full quill emu or ostrich. Any suggestions? In SA if that makes a difference. Also, can a fat 40 year old white dude pull off black lizard / snake / python boots? Asking for a friend. Edited June 17, 20241 yr by Dnaguy
June 20, 20241 yr Popular Post Back when I was 25, I bought myself a pair of dark cherry, ostrich skin Lucchese boots. The boots were/are sharp looking but it was just one in a long line of bad decisions at the time. I turned 50 last week and all year I kept racking my brain trying to think of what I wanted. I kept coming back to the Lucchese's. I wanted to book end the last 25 years. If you told 25 year me the life 50 year old me would have, he would have thought you were high. So, for my 50th, I got a pair of brown, alligator skin boots. I ordered them from a store to ship to my house due to them being a particular size. The store people were great to deal with. There is still something sharp about that cowboy/cowgirl look. Boots, tight jeans, and a simply shirt or blazer. (Not the bro country dip shits who look like a youth minister at a non denominational church.) Old boots on the left. They held up well. Ostrich skin boots slap with some drip or whatever the kids say now.... Edited June 20, 20241 yr by Aqua Buddha

I say "only" because if you end up with a custom fitting, you'll pay a lot more. My size was fairly standard (11.5/D) so I could just order from the warehouse. It's taken about a week or so to break them in and now they feel great.

June 25, 20241 yr No, but I've thought about it. I'm trying to break them in I've thought about it to make the heel more snug, if anything. What kind of socks do you wear? I loved the AQHA Remuda series Justin came out with in the late 00’s, but they just didn’t fit right because I’ve got a foot like a wedge: wide in the front and skinny heel so it floated in Justin’s. Bought a couple pairs of Thorlo’s and would wear them with the Justin’s and that solved the issue. Plus, Thorlo’s are comfy as shit.
