The older I get, the more I dig his shit. This cat wrote the book on smooth. When it comes to romancing the ladies, BB is my main man on the HiFi.

Let's see what you got.

My favorite Burt tune:

Diana Krall doing "Walk On By" (she deseves her own thread):

Dude laid the pipe to Angie Dickinson in her prime.   That's all I need to know.  I'm a fan.

Dude was prolific. Before I got into him I had no idea how many songs I'd heard over the years from different artists were his.

I always dug this tune written by Burt.

So many classics by Bacarach and Hal David

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head.

The Look of Love

Say a Little Prayer

Do You Know The Way To San Jose

I'll Never Fall In Love Again

Quite the catalog, those two.

Do You Know the Way to San Jose? seems like such an improbable melody, yet so beautiful. Who thinks up a song like that?

Bacharach's songwriting was a bit unusual compared to other pop/easy listening music at the time.  I remember reading that Dionne Warwick and others who covered his songs remarked how much more difficult they were to sing.

San Jose seems like it would be very difficult to pull off.

I celebrate his entire catalog - when the time comes for romance, this is like the Sex Panther of Burt Bacharach numbers.

Love me some Burt, and  Diana Krall will be doing a show at ACL Moody Theater this June. Ought to be a good one.

The 3 CD box set from 1996, "The Look Of Love- The Burt Bacharach Collection" is a awesome collection. Even the non-hits are great.

Darden Smith doing "Say A Little Prayer" after seeing Burt in concert.  Love his arrangement on the nylon string guitar.

Really nice playing by Darden.  Man, I absolutely love that song (posted Aretha's version above).  I'm thinking it's getting bumped into my Top 10 for the eventual desert island.

It is SUCH a classic Bacharach tune.  Tremendous chord voicings and a tricky melody that just floats on top.  Wow.

Darden is playing a backyard concert this Saturday. He played "Say A Little Prayer" last year and it was awesome. I'll try and see if I can record some.
