Consider this who thread spoilered for violence.

Westerns, military movies, bank robberies, whatever.  What are the best ones?  And no votes for Michael Mann's offerings.  They are to all to be considered "the best."

1. Heat

2. Open Range

3. Black Hawk Down

IK a TV show not a movie and not the greatest "shootout" ever, but just the way it happens makes it one of the funniest

Way of the gun is pretty damn good.

Heat and The Town. Duh.

duh

I agree that Heat is the best ever

Hon mentions:

.The baby stroller scene in The Untouchables

Not for volume, but for quality, the closing kills in both Enemy at the Gate and Hell or High Water

The snipers- FMJ, the German in SPR, and our own hero until he gets blasted by the tank also in SPR.

The sniper scenes in Full Metal Jacket.

Not a movie, but give Raylan Givens his due.

Hard to believe it actually took 12 posts

Yep. Just saw the thread and The Wild Bunch immediately came to mind.

you figured it was a setup and you showed up anyway?

love when bud white comes out of the floorboard with his shotgun.

the motel they used for the victory is about a mile from me.

For me, it's the climax in Unforgiven. The dialogue, the gun play, the deliberate buildup, and so much tension. Unlike most shootouts, I truly had no idea who would remain standing.

Danny Boy scene - Miller's Crossing

Man, I love that movie. And that's an incredible scene. Albert Finney puts his stogie in the nightstand ashtray and slowly slips on his slippers then quickly dives to the floor. He blows a dude's kneecaps apart then tosses the Tommy Gun out the window and follows it, somersaulting his way off the roof. He coolly unloads the gun into the getaway car all the while "Danny Boy" is playing.

Not exactly a shootout, but I love the way they did the train robbery scene at the beginning of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Agreed.  The tension build-up in both of these gunfights is brilliant.

I like the Roach because he’s a simple man of few words, gets it done and is detached from the chaos around him.

Agreed. The prologue is as important as the fight in both cases. The epilogue was just as powerful as well. Peckinpah was brilliant.

The Matrix bank scene is pretty good for a more modern shootout.

Well yeah if you want to pick a 20 year old movie.

Recent award goes to John Wick.

Final dash in 3:10 to Yuma

Die Hard

One sided, but the jungle destruction scene in Predator

Whole lead up to this was pretty good, because border.

That’s the trailer from Avengers 4: The Collector and Thanos Bust Some Caps

Chris Penn is epic in that scene. “OUT OF THE FUCKIN’ BLUE!”

Probably Peter North and Ron Jeremey in Anal Addicts IX, with an honorable mention of North Pole VII.

By modern I meant using semiautomatic magazine fed firearms that use these new fangled metallic cartridges. Somebody says shootout and I think old west.
