September 26, 20205 yr Just let guys run open...and no pressure from 4. It’s clear the defense isn’t very good and the OL sucks complete ass
September 26, 20205 yr A meatheaded fucking retard with a career propped up by terrible big 10 offenses.
September 26, 20205 yr Still waiting for this rugby tackling. Seems like ash teaches the handshake tackling
September 26, 20205 yr Ash's sordid unit will have a chance to redeem itself... not getting my hopes up.
September 26, 20205 yr Looking forward to another season of every game looking like this today. 63-60, 59-48.. so dumb.

September 27, 20205 yr We looked as shitty as we have at any point in the last ten years. What a swift kick in the nuts. We squeaked past a team that barely beat something called Houston Baptist.
September 27, 20205 yr The Big 12 continues to be slightly ahead of every other conference in offense. While the Pac 12 was getting bitch slapped by the ancient Mike Leach Air Raid, and Mississippi State is now doing the same in the SEC, the Big 12 has advanced past basic Air Raid concepts. Trying to compete against the very advanced offenses of the Big 12 is a giant kick in the nuts. Every defensive coordinator that comes into this league has to get bitch slapped repeatedly until the good ones can figure out how to patch together a scheme to keep the scoreboard under 40. Orlando had three years and still hadn't figured it out. Patterson is well adjusted, having been in the league so long. Ash could have the same multi-year learning curve ahead of him. Of course, he won't get three years to figure it out. He pretty much has to figure it out now or he and Tom will be gone.

September 27, 20205 yr The onside kick, muffed punt, pick in our end, Thompson getting hurt, and just general average starting field possession all impacted the defense. The interceptions and defense in OT are encouraging. But 56 points is terrible no matter how you slice it. The 3rd down defense was atrocious. Our strategy to attack trips is stupid imo. Hopefully Ash is a guy who will adjust because offenses are going to look about like this in probably 5 of our 8 remaining games.
September 27, 20205 yr Patterson gets pantsed by Texas Tech to the tune of 55+ every once in a while. The biggest issue was tackling. The white jerseys were present on a large percentage of plays, but they yearns after contact statistic has to be absolutely out of whack. Tech always gets their yards, especially at home. The had so many opportunities to create no gain plays or stop the bleeding if our players had been able to hold onto the really carrier.

September 27, 20205 yr It is still legal to play the occasional game with the DL isn’t it. Like an occasional stunt or twist? Or is rush straight ahead only some kind of new rule?

September 27, 20205 yr A lot of what we fucked up today is very fixable, but if we’re still this bad at tackling, that can’t be fixed and we’re in for some serious ass kickings.
September 27, 20205 yr My biggest issue was with the DL. I recall Ossai a couple of times in the backfield. Other than that, I don't recall a single play the DL made. Tech sacked Ehlinger with a scrub-ass DL, rushing 3 late in the game.
September 27, 20205 yr The defense missed 29 tackles against Tech. That's pitiful, the majority of these guys playing on the defense are experienced players. On Tech's 2nd TD BJ Foster completely whiffed and he was threatening to leave the program over playing time? Hell on that 75 yard TD run by Thompson 3 different players whiffed.

September 27, 20205 yr We're vulnerable up the seam. It was noticeable even against UTEP. Needs to get fixed fast.
September 27, 20205 yr We have to play coverage that gives the DL a chance to make an impact. I was less impressed by the way we got pushed around on running plays at times. Road games are wonky though, we should play better at home next week.

True but it was by far our number one problem last year and if the defensive coordinator and head coach were unable to identify that and fix it between the end of last football season and this game, I don’t think they can do it during game week planning. that’s not even to discuss the fact that some of the guys might not even be capable vis-à-vis the physical domination of Techs wide receivers today. I hope it isn’t who we are, but it sure defined us today. Edited September 27, 20205 yr by The Earl of Texas

Time allocated to practicing the basics is on Ash. If he values sounds tackling like Urban Meyer says he does, maybe we’ll get it to a respectable level.
September 27, 20205 yr Duggan will start next week. Fat Pat is going to drag his balls against Hermans face
September 27, 20205 yr The announcers mentioned the TTU coaches figured out Ash's defense by watching 2 year old videos of Rutgers
September 27, 20205 yr I may be wrong here, but from what I saw today, execution rather than scheme was our bigger issue.
September 27, 20205 yr How do we get all these elite recruits but our defense manages to look worse and worse? I don’t get it

September 27, 20205 yr 26 minutes ago, 6th Street said: The announcers mentioned the TTU coaches figured out Ash's defense by watching 2 year old videos of Rutgers Well they barely had 150 yards at HT, and almost turned it over 3 times. The offense and STs fucked up the 3Q and most of the 4Q when Tech got going. The tackling was abysmal and needs to get much better. Thompson popped a big run, and probably ended up helping Texas more than hurting, but neither Ezukanma, Carter, or Vasher got 100 yards, and it took Bowman 52 attempts to get his 325 yards. Being honest, Tech's top 3 WR are more consistent than Texas's top 3 WRs right now. Especially considering Black got hurt again on top of Smith and Whittington already being injured. What’s so hard about nabbing ISU’s or Baylor’s DCs? Were they unobtainable? Get someone well versed in a system that is proven to work in this league.
