Much crazier play in this same game....

Edited by LTtxfan

It’s a fine kick return, but Barstool Sports needs to get out more: the returner who’s then surrounded by several teammates... wait, who has the ball?... has been around a long time.

We will. #2 for Ryan is one of our 2021 commits Billy Bowman. Dude can fly

Not to recruit up the football board, but Bowman is my favorite recruit based on his sophomore Hudl tape. I haven’t seen his junior year stuff yet, kid is amazing.

Regarding the odd punter kick that turned into a TD, it seems as though that would essentially be similar to a drop kick missed field goal, which could indeed be returned for a score. But it’s ruled a penalty, declined and still a score. I’m no ref, so I hope they got it right.

(Drop kicks can probably only bounce once before the kick is attempted, so yeah, illegal kick.)

Crazy finish to that game.

Poor kid had it in his hands on that hail mary.

Shit, we practiced the starburst return at my high school back in the mid to late 80s.  Never used it, but we always had it in the bag for a big moment.

I seem to remember that Texas ran this for a while.   Thinking it was Ham, Lam, and Jam Jones a few times?  Can't remember who the swing guy was.

Or was that smart.

Our special teams aren’t smart enough to pull off either of those plays. They would find a way to hand off to the opposition and they score a touchdown.

We would hand it off to them in the end zone.

Top play of the night on Sportscenter as well.

That “punt” play still seems like it should have been a safety to me.

Guessing the one that dropped the Hail Mary.

Some kid named Sanders had a chance. The Twatter above named Derek Ray Johnson has a clip of it on his feed, I don’t know how.to isolate it or I’d post it.

It was '74 when most kickoffs allowed time for that maneuver. We ran it all season and I loved it. I think it went sour in the Gator Bowl and we abandoned it as too risky. I don't know if Ham was on campus yet and the other two Joneses were after him. Earl was here, but he didn't do kickoff returns.

My freshman year.

Jam was the last of the Joneses, not Ham.

I believe that is what I wrote; the other Joneses being "after him."

Would you ever consider taking the penalty?  You get a safety and a chance to then pick up the td anyway on presumably a short field after the free kick.  Probably only if it were late in a game and the safety would cut the lead to 7 or 8.

I thought that was Tre Smith who returned that kick

DISH pisses me off.  They've been fighting with FoxSports since before football season even began so I wasn't able to watch any of the games of FoxSW.

Bowman was the kid who came flying back into the screen around the 50 for the block.

Darrel Royal's teams did this in the 60's, early 70's.  He called it Mickey Mouse return or something like that.

I remember Switzer told the refs before our game with them to watch that play because we were handing the ball off illegally.

Something to do with the angle of it or something. Never understood what they were calling but they flagged us several times for it in that game.

I am sure Switzer's complaint was the first hand off was forward.

Denton Ryan took care of this by bringing the first ball carrier past the "dealer" before handing off.
