March 25, 20187 yr Popular Post Here’s The HG method so we don’t lose it: The very first roll for a given shooter is called the "come out" roll. If the come out is a 7 or 11, those betting on the Pass Line win. If it's a 2, 3, or 12, those betting on the Pass Line lose. If the come out is anything other than those numbers (i.e., it's 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), that number becomes the point. Then the shooter proceeds to keep rolling until he rolls either a 7 or the point again. To bet the HG way, ignore the come out roll. Just stand there and let that roll happen. Most people will be betting on it, but no one will look at you funny for not doing so. Once a point is established, the dealer will put a marker that says "ON" next to that number and you can start betting. Start off by putting a Place bet on the three inside numbers that are not the point (the inside numbers are 5, 6, 8, and 9 because they are "inside" the 4 and 10 on the layout). A Place bet is a bet that a certain number will be rolled BEFORE a 7 is rolled. Because of the odds, the dealers will want you to bet in increments of $6 on the 6 and 8, and $5 on everything else (assuming a $5 minimum table). Don't worry, they'll help you keep the math straight. So if the point is a 5, you'll place a minimum bet on each of the 6, 8, and 9. If the point is a 6, you'll bet the 5-8-9. And so on. If the point is either a 4 or a 10, bet the three inside numbers closest to the point. For example, bet on 5-6-8 if the point is 4. Depending on what the point is exactly, you're going to be putting down a total of either $16 (if point is 6 or 8) or $17 (if point is anything else) on the three numbers. Hence, this bet is called "16 inside" or "17 inside". Note, if the point is 4 or 10, you'll have to specify what numbers you want when you say "17 inside" because there are 4 available numbers but you're only putting down enough money for three bets. Otherwise, you can put down your money and say 16 or 17 inside and the dealer will know what to do. After everyone makes their bets, the shooter will roll some more. Collect the first two hits on your bets ("collect" meaning, take that money off the table when you get paid out and put it in your pocket). These first two hits will pay you back a total of $14, so you'll be almost even on your initial $16 or $17 bet. Then you start pressing the bets when they hit instead of collecting them. Follow the schedule below. Betting schedule: 5/9 - 5-15-35 (full collect) - 85-100-150 - 350 (full) - 500 and so on. 6/8 - 6-12-30 (full collect) - 60 (full) - 120 - 300 (full) - 600 and so on. Here's an example. Come out roll is a 9. You put down $17 on the table and say "17 inside" to the dealer. He will arrange your bets accordingly on the 5-6-8. Next roll is a 5. He'll put down $7 in front of you to pay off your bet on the 5. Put that $7 in your pocket. Next roll is an 8. Same thing, he'll put down $7, put it in your pocket (or your rack, whatever). Those are your initial collects to get you back close to even. Next roll is another 8. Dealer will begin to put down $7 again, but instead of picking it up, you say to him "make it 12". That's you letting him know you want to press your bet on the 8 to $12 (following the schedule above). He'll add $6 to your bet on the 8 to make it a total of $12 and give you the extra dollar (which you can pick up and put in your rack). If you get up to $30 or $35 on one of the numbers, and it hits, then you collect again. So if you have $30 on the 6, and it hits, you'll get $35 which you pick up and put in your pocket. Next time the 6 hits then keep on pressing (up to $60). When the shooter rolls a 7 the table clears and you start all over for the next shooter. Your maximum exposure for any given shooter should be $16 or $17 if you're doing it right. Tell the dealer this: "Same bet" - leave your original wager on the table and collect winnings. "Take it Down" - collect winnings and original bet "Press it up a unit" - dealer will add $5, $10 or whatever level of minimum bet table you are playing and give you remaining proceeds.
March 25, 20187 yr Many blessings to ya for starting this one. Still sucks to lose all of our war stories and some damned good strategic conversations from the Shag. Would pos rep if I knew how. LOL.
March 27, 20187 yr I play completely opposite of this, may be why I’m getting my ass kicked at craps. Will follow this strategy on next trip to Vegas.
March 27, 20187 yr Excited to play in vegas in a few weeks. Need to re-download an app so I can work out the kinks.
March 27, 20187 yr I've always played the Place bets. just seems smarter money. I never had a good press strategy until I read this thread (incorrectly at first) and was collecting more often and not pressing high enough to catch a run. but, yeah, you can practice this, take treefiddy to the casino, and go have some fun for a few hours. this is probably one of the better gambling posts.
March 27, 20187 yr The last couple of times I've played I've done this: Pass line max odds with two come line bets and max odds. If the table gets hot I'll add a third come line bet I have abandoned the strategy of place bets, but to each their own.
March 27, 20187 yr That’s definitely the more exciting strategy. It just doesn’t last long. You’ll get stacked much more slowly w HG method.
March 27, 20187 yr Back from Vegas. Showed the fiancée how to play. She loved it the first night when we were winning. To get more action I was betting the field, place bets, and the pass right out of the gate. We won about $500 the first night. Was a great time and she loved rolling. Night two we did the same thing but lost our gains in about 30 minutes and she lost interest. I told her the difference was on night 1 she was a first timer and night two she was experienced. I did play the dark side on the second night and got us out of a hole. That was pretty cool and I’d like to learn it further because it saved me about $100 on a shit table.
March 27, 20187 yr What are the odds on craps if you play right (or is there a 'right' way to play)? Odds have gotten so bad on BJ that poker is the only casino game I really play anymore, but it's fun to have a drunk, social game to play.
March 27, 20187 yr Depends on the bets, but house edge on pass/come line bets are 1.31%, which you can greatly reduce by putting odds on them w 0% edge. 68 place bets have little edge, 59 more but reasonable. 4T are not reasonable. Buy bets on 4T are low edge too I believe. Rest of table are bad bets. Edited March 27, 20187 yr by Lurch
March 28, 20187 yr Glad this made it over, got a while until my next Vegas trip and this thread helps keep me sane.
March 28, 20187 yr Went to harrahs this past weekend, wife wanted to try craps after watching videos on YouTube . I give her 100 bucks, go take a piss, come back and she’s broke. Fuck i give her another 50, well away and play some other games , she ended up getting the 100 back. Then she got drunk that night and I fucked her ass. I like craps.

If you stay away from the hardways, come out bets, fire bets, and all that other stupid stuff, the odds aren't bad. Odds on pass/don't pass and come/don't come are the only fair bets in the casino.
March 28, 20187 yr I always go into a Vegas trip telling myself I’m gonna try this method.....and then I end up getting hammered and stick to my simple bets and keep getting hammered.

March 30, 20187 yr Trip report from Golden Nugget, Lake Charles midweek visit, light to medium crowd at tables, $15min, 20x odds Started early afternoon by doing something I have sworn off for years...chasing the flow of the table between the do's and don'ts. Got steamrolled for $300, after about 2 hours of play. Everyone at the table was cussing, regardless of where they were betting. It was just like the casino wants it. Took a break. Came back around 4:30, buying in for $300 again. Table was choppy, but nothing remotely as hellish as earlier. After an hour, I was up $100. I started a hand by shooting from the don't and made a point of 6. Ignoring my "lesson" from earlier in the day, I changed to the passline. I think my point was 4, so I went $81 across. I hit every place number once and collected each time. I then made my 4. Now I was back in business, ready to start pressing as I hit my place numbers. i then went on to hit 7-8 points, but while getting there, I had pressed my 4 and 10 up to a $100buy and had $90 on the inside numbers. It was such a freaking rush. I will usually just keep pounding on one number and get it pressed up, but the others stay close to the original bet. I never did hit the 2 or the 12, so the all-tall-small crowd was a little pissy, but EVERYONE made money. I ended up cashing out $4400. If you get a room there, especially during the week, ask if they have the corner suite upgrade available. $50 for an absolutely badass room. I'm a cheapskate and i thought it was easily worth it. i know some people lampoon the industrial scenery in Lake Chuck, but seeing the tugs push barges through the channel is still badass, IMHO. Feels like a little kid watching airplanes. It was a fun trip, most definitely my best one in at least a year.
March 30, 20187 yr Helz yeah, that sounds like a good trip. Not to the level of Quagmire screwing his wife in the ass kind of trip, but still a good trip anyhow.
March 31, 20187 yr Wow, the move to Surlyhorns has slorch betting the good side and praising hotel rooms

April 2, 20187 yr On 3/28/2018 at 12:21 PM, High Plains Drifter said: no no. Keep putting up those cum bets with odds. Nothing like having bases loaded and still rolling. Yep. Once bases are loaded, there is no reason to not keep it going. And after hitting a few more, bump up the come bet and subsequent max odds. there is one downside to come bets vs place numbers: comps. When they are calculating your average bet, the casino ignores the amount you have down as odds. Now don’t gamble because of the comps but it’s good to understand that the place bettor will receive more of them, all else being equal.
April 2, 20187 yr Fuck comps. Winning trumps all. Especially at the craps table. Pump up those odds...

April 2, 20187 yr As the other person with HG when we learned this craps strategy from "Uncle" Richie, it cracks me up that this info is still up on Horn message boards. I'm pretty sure we met him around '99-'00. Almost 20 years ago. Holy shit.
April 2, 20187 yr My contribution to this topic: If you're wondering how to keep track of what numbers you want to collect vs press, I use the upper half of my rack. I keep all of my chips in the lower half and put 1 $1 chip at the 1/3rd point of the upper half of the rack, and another $1 chip on the 2/3rd point. When any of my 3 points hit the first time, I take one of these chips down. When any of my 3 points hits the second time, I take the other chip down. I'm now ready to start pressing. Each of my 3 points gets 1/3rd of the upper half of the rack. So, if I'm on 689, the 6 will get the upper left third, the 8 will get the upper middle third, and the 9 will get the upper right third. When I hit one of those points, I'll put a single $1 chip in its spot on the upper rack. If I hit that point again, it will get a second $1 chip. If it hits a 3rd time, I know to ask the dealer for a full collect from the table for that point and I'll bring the two $1 chips down from the upper rack for that point. Rinse repeat.
April 3, 20187 yr I'm curious why you don't bet on the pass line and add odds once the point was established. It was always my understanding that that's where you have better odds of winning money.
April 3, 20187 yr You cant do that. You have to bet pass line before the point is set and then add odds to it. You can PLACE the point after it’s been set, but that’s the same as our HG strategy, no more/less odds. You’re thinking standard pass line strat— Pass line strat:It’s bigger variance. Remember all bets are losers (w exception if pass line odds that can only bet bet in conjunction with a poor odds pass line bet) so we’re just trying to prolong the losses to enjoy cheap drinks and good company. With this strategy we’re only betting $34 on a $10 table, whereas a proper pass line strategy would have you betting $10+$30/40/50 on a 3/4/5 table
April 3, 20187 yr You can bet the passline and make at odds bet after the point has been established. However, a good dealer will often encourage a lower stakes player to ‘place the point.’ Here’s why: say the point is 10. If I place the point for $15, the payoff s $27. I want to make a $5 flat bet with $10 odds. Should the shooter make their 10,I would win $25. at higher stakes, the math of the odds overtakes that of the place bet, but most noobs ain’t dropping that kind of coin. Let’s say for math’s sake, I place the point for $55. If the 10 hits, that’s $99. If I bet $5 on the passline and wager $50 odds, the 10 brings a $105 payoff. Most casinos will let you make the late passline bet because you are conceding your advantage on the comeout roll. Remember, though, once you make that bet, it is a contract bet and cannot be picked up. The odds, yes, but the initial passline bet, no. Edited April 3, 20187 yr by slorch
April 3, 20187 yr Interesting, I thought you could only make the pass line bet before the come out roll.
April 3, 20187 yr Hey gents, glad to see this thread made its way over here. It inspired me to register, actually. 14 of us took a party bus from central Ohio to Belterra (Southern Indiana, 50 miles SW of Cincinnati on the Ohio River). 3 people were too drunk to gamble once we got there, which kind of defeated the purpose. The tables were up and down but provided 2 notable highlights: 1. During one of my rolls, my brother-in-law bought in at the other end of the table and put $25 on each of the hard ways (I didn't know this at the time). Once the point was established, I threw 5 hard ways in a row. The guy next to him was on them, too, so they were both going nuts. The only thing that would have made it better for my BIL is if the dealers would have let him press his hard 6 up to $50 when he asked, but they said the dice were already out. They hadn't announced that the dice were out, and they definitely weren't in my hand, but whatever. My next roll was a hard 6, of course. 2. My wife was the shooter, and my father-in-law put them both on a $25 C/E on the come out. She hit it. He put them on it 2 more times and she rolled it 2 more times. Nice little payout to start a roll. The next morning she wanted to gamble more before we left while I nursed my hangover. When I found her at the table, she asked me to cash in $1400 in chips from the $600 she started with. Not too shabby. Which reminds me, has anyone started a "Wives and the Not So Stupid Shit They Say/Do" thread yet?
April 4, 20187 yr Not much of a gambler but have used this method on two seperate occasions to spend about 4 hrs each time and end up leaving with cash. It's a good play for having a good time and not having to think too much.

April 12, 20187 yr Agree. Read this thread on Shaggy and really enjoyed it. What are the best online websites to learn craps? Not a website, but I have an app on my iPad called Craps shooter that is great. There is a tutorial built in, but I really like that it gives detailed explanations on payouts actually inside the game while you’re playing. Really helps lock that potentially confusing part in for a new player

April 22, 20187 yr 1) Don't audibly call for a 7, unless everyone is in the don'ts 2) Celebrate other players when their Place bets hit. If the point is 8, they can hit the 4 at least thirty times before I start to care. 3) when the 7 comes, STFU and pick up your chips. I dont make any comments or eye contact. I generally don't have issues at the tables and am hard core DON'T with my style of play. Just don't be a doucher, and things are pretty copacetic.
April 23, 20187 yr ^all of this. Only time I have ever had an issue is a dickbag directly across from my wife, she was on the hook, chanting for 7 every time she through the dice. I gave him a earful, that involved some MF's and Csucker. Every other Don't player I have ran across was quiet about it
