Never been on a cruise. Mainly because I imagine how miserable it must be to find yourself surrounded by 1000's of people like the "dude, he's gonna fuckin hit us" douche.

If you (or anyone else) haven't read it, David Foster Wallace wrote an outstanding essay on the awfulness of going on a cruise.

I bet maneuvering those things with their thrusters and fans can get tricky as hell.

They should have never had that many ships trying to maneuver at the same time. Saving 15 minutes can cost you $15m or more on your insurance.

Ya the sea worthy comment is gold. So they are going to just keep cruising the one ship with some painters tarp over the windows?

One of the submarines in our squadron was the old 688 type that had sail planes like this:

us_navy_051014-n-0780f-002_the_los_angel

They extend a few feet out of either side past the edge of the boat.

The boat was going out for it's reactor readiness exam and was in the narrow ship channel which had a few ships in it including an old slow sub tender that went out to see about once a year. The captain decided to pass the tender just as the channel narrowed. The guys up top said "It's close but we should make it"

The sail plane ended up hitting the tender, and rolling about 100 feet of the outer skin of the tender back like a sardine can opening. The inspectors on the boat had them turn around and head into port. The captain packed up his bag and left the boat, never to return to duty on a sub.

That’ll just buff right out.  They got ‘em working in shifts.

We had just flew out. It was real windy, and the port was closed Wednesday and Thursday.

And that Sub Captain's defense?  "The Sea was angry that day my friends, like a Shaggy site owner sending back ownership at a trial."

Speaking of tugs and submarines.  There is a video out on the interwebs of the USS Georgia not realizing it was still tied off to a tug when it decided to start driving off and ended snagging and sinking the tug that just did a stores load

fans?

all that kind of manuvering is done with a 3 inch long joystick hooked up to a computer.

word is that The Glory had just had their manuvering software updated by Boeing.
