First time seeing / hearing that Wilson Pickett cover of Hey Jude, damn fucking fantastic, same with Metallica's Turn the Page cover.

Jesus.  At least get the words right.  I'm all for re-casting songs but this is the most insulting off-target cover I can recall.

Wild Horses - Sundays>Stones

In My life - Johnny Cash>Beatles

Johnny Cash In My Life was my wedding song.

Great great cover. But man that is a bold statement to say it’s better than the original.

How can I be wrong about what I like more or less ?

I love Townes but his soul was dark and had little hope in it.  Guy was a hellion but his songs anyway had the hope I seek in a song like that one, hence I like his version better.  His hope and positive outlook comes through in his cover of To Live is to Fly in a way Townes just couldn’t pull off.  It’s the only Townes cover I like better than the original and it’s for a very specific reason.

Agreed.  This one is so damn good.

I don’t think I had watched that Metallica video for Turn the Page since I had kids. That is some heavy shit.

The original of this song is iconic, but I have to say this version is epic. I might say better than the OG.

Love this WAY more than the original.

I don’t think it is better than the Gerry Rafferty version because the sax riff is so key, but I love the way Waylon sings so sharing here.

Deleted. Made a post about zeppelin songs but they are generally so radically different that the originals in arrangement that they aren’t true covers.

This is probably sacrilege for some, but I never liked Velvet Underground anway.  Plus, Bowie & Charlie Sexton.  And what appears to be Peter Frampton, relegated to the shadows (and I think it pissed him off).

While I think this conversation begins and ends with Hendrix's version of Watchtower, SRV's version of Voodoo Child is solid, but not as good as his version of Little Wing.

Stevie's version of every cover he ever did is better than the original, with the only possible exception being Superstitious because it's not really a guitar song.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one.  Full disclosure -- I fucking hate Meatheadica, but in this case it's extra bad.

Yeah, I figure I'm on a bit of an island here.  They just never did anything for me, other than make me laugh (and not in a good way).

I was surprised to see that actually. Your posts have been 1-for-1 identical to my opinions, here and other threads. But if you cut me, I might bleed a little Danish dude and some Californians.

What I think this means is that we need to find where you hid jimmyjazz's body and seek justice for his restless soul.

LOL.  I'm just not a metal guy when it comes down to it.  Never got into Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Slayer, etc.  It's kinda weird how much of an affinity I have for hard rock like Zep, AC/DC, etc.  Always dug super hard punk rock like Helmet, etc. too.  There's just a subset of classic metal that does zero for me.

Feel free to discount all my opinions henceforth.

Dr. Dog's cover of Architecture in Helsinki's song Heart It Races

That was my contribution to this thread on the old board and I don't remember seeing any response so glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Agree with whoever said the original wasn't very good. I didn't hate it, but Dr. Dog's kills that version.

I agree with this as a general rule.  While I love the guitar in Taxman, SRV's singing on that song grates on me - I give that one to The Beatles.

Johnny had some great covers there at the end.  Made me hear the songs in a whole different way.

Ha I didn't know he covered that one.

I am not a fan of Jefferson Airplane/Starship, but I have always liked this version of White Rabbit:

Not better than the original, but very good

I like this one better:

14, 12, and 9 yo chicks covering Enter Sandman.  Fuckin' A.
