I knew a guy in college who's favorite player was Sura.  I wonder if you're him. There can't possibly be 2 Longhorns who would put Sura in their top 5.

1. Olajuwon

2. Vernon Maxwell

3. Reggie Freeman

4. Larry Bird

5. Terrence Rencher

Bobby Sura was every white kid's hero in the 90's.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any Rex Chapman votes.

He’s been picked.

Derp, wrong thread. I saw his name this morning in the “3 Best Players of All Time” thread. Kind of odd that he’d show up in that thread but not this one.

No, no, you were right the first time. Slorch called him by his proper name, though.

And while I don't personally agree with him being top 3 all time, you'd have to be a horse's ass not to think he was in that conversation, because he was great. Certainly a fan favorite, though I preferred Larry Kennon for pure athleticism.

Steph (shocking, I know)

MJ

Pipp

Thunder Dan

John Starks*

Damn, it's tough leaving off Dirk, but I was 10 years old when MJ and Pipp started their 2nd championship run. They're my Star Wars.

*Ironically, Starks is my go-to example when I make the point that today's average NBA player is bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic, better conditioned, more skilled, and just plain better than yesteryear's players.

Love the Muggsy vote. My junior high basketball coach was only 5'1" tall, and he was the last guy cut from the Supersonics camp roster one year (that tells you how long ago it was). Dude could fucking fly, and was lightning quick, but there were just too many quality guards playing the game at that time for him to break through.

Have to do a Spurs list and a non-Spurs list. Manu Ginobili is my favorite player ever. Period. End of story. And away we go:

SPURS (probably in order)

Manu Ginobili

Tim Duncan/David Robinson (tie)

George Gervin

Tony Parker

NON-SPURS (in no particular order)

Moses Malone

Charles Barkley

Larry Bird

Akeem Olajuwon

Reggie Miller (drives me bananas behind the mike though)

Only Player that should ever be called a GOAT is the only one on my list too:

Derka

How can any Spurs list not include Billy Whopper Paultz?

Some odd picks on this thread.  But mine:

- Magic

- Kareem

- Kobe

- MJ

- Worthy

NBA-
Allen Iverson
Jason Williams
Dominique Wilkins
Vince Carter

Damn. Only one mention of Jason Williams so far. Easily the most entertaining player of my lifetime. Everybody was trying his moves on the playground the next day.
