In the excellent movie, The Lives of Others, the Stasi practice of collecting scents from persons brought in for interviews was depicted. Unknown to the person being interviewed, the were sitting on cloth that was then carefully sealed into a glass jar in case dogs would be used later to find the person.

That Time article is well written and informative. Someone needs to have a serious talk with him about the nation and its needs.

From the article:

"Others seemed to be repeating false ideas espoused in Plandemic, [?] a pair of conspiracy videos featuring a discredited former medical researcher that went viral, spreading the notion that COVID-19 is a hoax across social media. (COVID-19 is not a hoax.)"

This is very true. The media still “respects the office” and is playing their usual question role. They need to be more hostile. This man is a authoritarian mob boss who lies with every breath while trampling all facets of democracy. You can’t just critically question him and hope for the best.

Preach, brother!

The real news story is that the president is a malignant liar. News organizations prefer the routine to the novel because they know how how to cover the routine. TV news is slave to routine.

As we swim the ocean of irony, isn't odd that "news" people charged with bringing news to us are worse at grasping a news story than we are?

I am glad to see the reporter's observation. They're not idiots. Maybe they can break routine and adapt to this new world. I few times now, reporters have used the world "lie" to the president's face. Good.

To show how long it has taken them to get it, recall John Oliver's We Got Him bit first ran, I think, in the first year of Trump's presidency. For those of us who see this, it's enormously frustrating.

I'll repeat, Trump commits political suicide almost everyday, but it never sticks. Stunning. Think of that when anyone complains about the Dems not megaphoning a damaging story or posts such a story on facebook thinking it will change minds. It's all already out there. Everybody knows (cue Leonard Cohen).

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost

I don’t think that’s an official absentee ballot. It’s a request form, sent by the Trump campaign.

What ballot?  There's a ballot in that video?

You’re surprised that ESPN ran a pro-Kaep column? What rock have you been under? Their whole Tv lineup is basically pro BLM material.

Great isn't it? Are you aware that the "E" in ESPN is for Entertainment? So having discussions about current events is very much a part of who they are and sports can be progressive in that regard. It's funny because just about everyone has a personal story from their younger years about a coach who was "old school" and "old-fashioned" and sometimes, dangerously out of touch (that's the kind that didn't allow water breaks until someone vomits from heat stroke or something). Or had prejudices that were known but never openly discussed. ESPN made its mark from the NCAA basketball tourney and landing Dick VItale. Given the demographics of basketball, they would have had to BE a rock to not recognize some of the issues that athletes faced then and now.

Fox may tell athletes to shut up and play ball, but Jim Brown, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Arthur Ashe, Serena Williams, Tommie Smith and John Carlos let us know they were here and had something to say, each in their own way. I haven't even listed others, like Jackie Robinson or Ali  or the Syracuse Eight who paid the price for their courage and activism through punitive actions and abuse. Or talked about the female activists for gender issues or gay rights and so on.

One of the stories you can share with your son that is a testimony to courage and doing the right thing even when it is not easy is the tale of Peter Norman. Not Greg Norman, the golfer, but Peter Norman. Ever heard of him? He won the silver medal in the 200 meters at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. He was on the podium when Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their gloved fists in protest. He did not raise his fist, but he wore a badge for the Olympic Project for Human Rights. It made his stance clear. Returning to his home in Australia, he was a pariah. Although he was not stripped of his medal, he was never allowed to represent Australia again despite running the fastest times and qualifying over and over again, was not recognized in 2000 when the Olympics came to Sydney and when he died in 2006, Tommie Smith and John Carlos were pallbearers at his funeral. They had kept in touch for almost 40 years. It wasn't until 2012 that the Australian government apologized for its treatment of a talented hardworking man who stood up and stood with fellow men in support of what was right.

If I recall, you mentioned that your son likes track and field. So do I. It's history is littered with amazing achievements, cheating scandals, what-might-have-been opportunities, and in the case of second place Peter Norman: someone who our President would call a loser but was a winner all along.

She clearly says request form in the first sentence of the video.

Right. But people are acting like this is an absentee BALLOT that she received from the government pursuant to her request and are complaining that it’s an attempt to conceal the ballot within a campaign mailer. In fact, it is just an unsolicited campaign mailer from the campaign or the GOP that (smartly) includes an absentee ballot request form.

https://www.mediaite.com/news/heres-whats-behind-that-viral-video-of-outraged-young-woman-who-got-absentee-ballot-form-with-trump-all-over-it/

There’s nothing wrong with that.

I suspected it was not a state created ballot. It is garish as are most things connected to Trump's GOP and likely intended to confuse.

Pretty small potatoes considering the president is a traitor to the nation he swore to protect.

The vehicles? Well, one of the military style ones in the article had a Blue Lives flag on it, so maybe the police lent it out?

The tweet caption isn't quite correct. The event was not just in support of Trump (although his supporters outnumbered the Biden peeps I'm sure).

This is the event organizer (in the article):

While the crowd was in fervent support of Trump, Gaither’s message was one of unity, calling together both political parties to honor America and the right to vote.

Quote

“For today’s parade we are celebrating our freedom. We’re celebrating the fact that we have a say in our government. We’re celebrating the fact that we are free,” said Gaither. “I don’t care if you’re a Biden fanatic or if you’re Trump’s No. 1 fan. That’s not what I’m about today. Today is about America.”

Gaither also called for Americans of both parties to vote.

“Don’t be intimidated out of participating by one side or the other, no matter what your beliefs. If you have something you believe in, and you want to support Biden, then get out there and support him. If you want to support President Trump, then get out there and support him. Be a part of the process,” he said.

But in an illuminating display of political proselytizing, this minister, Larry Estes, gave the invocation:

Quote

Estes issued harsher words about the state of America. He asked God to forgive America for greed, allowing children to receive a public education and for turning away from the belief that marriage exists only between a man and woman.

“(Trump) seems to be a God-fearing man,” Estes said. “May our country be exalted, may our president be exalted, and we are standing here because we need him to be our president once again.”

Hahahaha.. From that article:

"(Trump) seems to be a God-fearing man,” Estes said. “May our country be exalted, may our president be exalted, and we are standing here because we need him to be our president once again."

Dear God, please do not smite us for educating our children.  Also, the dude who has been married three times and likes to fuck porn stars seems pretty righteous to me!

That man is not a pastor. He’s a con artist using the Bible to control people. If he actually read the Bible, he would realize it doesn’t support worshipping false idols, especially ones that commit adulterous acts and spread hate.

So I see all the dipshits on Facebook have shifted away from defending trump to saying things like the the second amendment is too important, the Supreme Court needs conservative judges, and God often works through flawed people, etc, etc.

Pretty interesting.

Oh and white people used to be slaves too. Can’t forget about that one.
