Everyone wanted Arando over Orlando, but Aranda wasn't attainable.

Herman wasn't "everyone," which is a major part of his problem

The complicated defenses work when you inherit good, upperclassmen defensive players who were taught sound fundamentals by someone else.  When that initial core is lost to graduation things go downhill fast.  Diaz and Orlando both had success initially and then flamed out spectacularly.

They’re schemers and not teachers. Emmanuel Acho detailed it on one broadcast. Muschamp taught him how to be a linebacker, and then Diaz empowered him to be the linebacker that Muschamp taught him to be.

But Diaz and Orlando skipped the step where they taught their charges to be the players they needed to be to succeed in their schemes. The elitiest coaches do both well. The really good ones do the former. The pretty good ones do the latter. And the terrible ones are named Warehime.

You come up with unsubstantiated bullshit like this all the time like some ridiculous authority.

Back up your statements or gtfo.

I'm with Burt on this one, it was pretty well known at the time that LSU was going to bankrupt the state if necessary to get O the coordinators he wanted.

Maybe I suck at reading comprehension, but what are "the former" and "the latter" in your statement?

Former = teach the position/ fundamentals

Latter = empower players to use what they were taught above.

Points up an interesting contrast between Herman's stagnant and predictable offense that wants to "impose our will" and Orlando's defense, which wants to outsmart everyone.

But neither one works worth a damn.

His older brother Tony was such a better football mind.

Cory Jacques - a walk-on...  Do you feel bad for him that he’s trusted his football future to the Coaches, too?
