January 9, 20205 yr Considering booking a few days over Spring Break which will also overlap with my 40th. Anyone been to SV in the winter? Recommend? If so, is there an advantage to staying in Sun Valley over the town of Ketchum? Appreciate any insight
January 9, 20205 yr Used to live there. Great skiing/boarding I would stay in Ketchum. Closer to River Run/Warm Springs lifts....plus all the bars and restaurants. Sun Valley is basically just the Lodge/Resort/Golf. Dollar Mountain is over there....it's beginners/kids hill and snowboard terrain park. Kneadery for Breakfast Sawtooth Club- "nice" restaurant on Main St. Casino- Dive Bar Grumpy's- Schooners and burgers Lefty's- was our hangout...beer/bar food/pool, good jukebox (at the time) Whiskey Jacques- Dive bar. Live Music Warfield distillery- It was something else when I was there, but there is a killer roof deck. There are probably a bunch of new places, but those above were all there when I lived there and are still going.
January 9, 20205 yr only place i've ever bought drugs using a credit card. some dive bar in town, don't remember the name. would highly recommend!
January 9, 20205 yr We used to go skiing there every year til I tore my acl on Mt Baldy. I agree with everything @Tylerocks wrote. If you can afford Sun Valley Lodge it's pretty great, esp for the hot swimming pool after-ski but that would really be the only advantage. Elkhorn area would be a big no imo. January 9, 20205 yr Just did Thanksgiving there. I love sun valley. Food recs above are solid, I would also add the Ram in sun valley. Personally I prefer staying in sun valley proper as opposed to Ketchum but that's just me. You can get a VRBO at the wildflower or the cottonwoods for about half of what sun valley would charge. Place we rented was in the wildflower and had access to the pools and hot tubs at the inn and the lodge. She also had vip parking at baldy and a locker there for our shit. It was awesome.
