yet, I've never heard of him.

That’s pretty embarrassing for any kind of football fan.

So I googled him.  He played at BC, and then went to the NFL.

I don't give  a flying fuck about BC as they've been irrelevant since Flutie, and I don't give a fuck about the NFL.  I'm not embarrassed at all.

Crazy not even 30 and still one of the Best LBs in the League.. good on him leaving on his own terms.

What if I'm a european football fan?

Said this in the Rhule thread but how is he only 28? Could have sworn he was at least 33-34.

Don’t give a fuck about the NFL, posts about future HOF LB retiring from NFL. Got it.

Loved watching him play when it wasn’t against the saints. Dude gave maximum effort on every play no matter the score.

Why are you arguing about someone you’ve never heard of in a sport you don’t give a fuck about? Goddamn, should I go shit all over one of your San Diego threads just for the fuck of it?

Yup. Had he kept playing likely would have become the all time leading tackler in the NFL

Luke was a bad MOFO. Gil, you missed out.

I'm sure that I did.  If he had chosen a better school, I probably would have had a chance to appreciate his play.

Whatever.  I always respect somebody that leaves at the top instead of sticking around too long (see the David Lee Roth thread)

The top? He was on pace to be the greatest linebacker to ever play

I doubt he would have ever been considered the best LB to ever play. That’s a bit of hyperbole. Stats alone wouldn’t have granted him that title.

It’s good for him to know when to call it quits. He seemingly had a concussion every time you looked him up

Weird thread to shit post on.

It's Gil Bang. He shits on every thread.

Hence the term 'Gil Bang'd'

You don’t give a fuck about shitty college football yet you started a thread about San Diego State’s fucking coaching staff?

WHO???  I'm with Gilbang on this one.

I can name 5 players on the late 70s Oilers or Cowboys for every 1 that played for the Texans or Cowboys this past season. When you don't follow the NFL or especially Boston college it makes sense not to know who he is.

Then why in the fuck are you in this thread? The dude was a fucking superstar, period.

he’s one of the top 5 defensive players of the last decade.  if you don’t know who he is you aren’t a fan of the game.

Sad that when I hear his name I’ll always associate it with him having that scary crying episode on MNF when being wheeled off in a cart after having another concussion.

Hope he stays in football somehow.

LB coach for a couple years, DC for as long as he wants hopefully.

Dude was a hell of a LB. I didn’t know he had only been in the league for 8 years. Seemed longer. He’s had a couple of concussions, glad to see him get out. Hope it was in time.

Take the CTE, pussy.

But, seriously, get out while you still have some brain cells.

David Lee Roth?  He could tackle in space and was dangerous off the edge.  Definitely future HOF material.

Just posting here to tell the world I do give a shit about the NFL. I cant remember the last time a weekend went by when i didnt watch a single second of any game.

This post is in contrast to those who stand on their soap box to remind us that they dont watch or give a shit about the NFL(in an NFL related thread) like we're supposed to give a shit that they dont give a shit.

Carolina? Is that in England?

That's the problem. He should have gone to a team with a national audience or to a Superbowl winner. If he would have requested a trade to New England, he would have 10X the money in sponsorships and would be a more recognized name nationally. Even Gil and women who don't watch football would know of him.

Apparently they don’t talk about Kuechly much on the Oxygen Network...

The sad part is I actually thought @woohorn had a clue, but he doesn’t. Sucks to be on the Gil Bang train.

What are you ladies arguing about?

Can't believe he's only 28, seems like he's been in the league forever. Assuming that I'd heard of him, of course.

SIAP,   but ESPN had a stat last night that he had had like 8 concussions in the last 3 years.   Wow.   Hope he does alright in his retirement.

man seeing him say that he knows his body can't take it anymore even though he still wants to go is what hit me.  One of my favorite players.  The dude played with an unmatched aggression but played the right way (fuck you Burfict).  He was definitely one of the good guys in the league.

I was kinda hoping he'd found some "retirement loophole" to get outta Carolina and follow Rivera to Washington.  Heaven knows they could use the help ...

8 years in the NFL is a long career considering I think the average player is like 3-4 years. LB is also an incredibly physical position. Good luck to him - he was a special player
