No freedom of speech, no way to butter your toast either. UK is a hilarious example of an authoritarian police state.

My hands are registered in the United Kingdom as lethal weapons.

When my Dad was 72, he got in some sort of wreck, and I guess shot his mouth off at the cop. The cop saw a joke pair of brass knuckles that had popped out of the glove compartment, and wrote my Dad up for packing some sort of deadly weapon. (He had gotten them as a paperweight.)

On the phone, my Dad was all "Brass KNUCKLES? Who the hell uses Brass KNUCKLES these days?"

I was like "Good thing you weren't carrying a sword."

He: "No! A sword would have been LEGAL!"

I finally convinced him that if the cops thought he was a threat to society at age 72, he was doing something right.

Look,  it's only a matter of time before hate speech is called a deadly weapon, so that whole sticks and stones thing is going to be dead and buried.

Depending on the plaintiff, it's already like that in some places (depending on what is considered hate speech), nearly eliminating any public discourse of issues one feels disdain for...

In ancient Rome, of course, the "thumbs down" meant that the combatant was worth more to spare (crowd favorite), so the gesture was akin to "throw your sword down" and the life was spared.  The "thumbs up", although the Latin isn't real clear about this, is generally thought to mean that they should thrust the sword up to the heart and be rid of the combatant.

So, you want to keep the guy around.

I bet a lot of you didn't know that.  About Rome.  And thumbs.  And death.  And whether they sold beer in the Colosseum.

Edit: This got fucked up because some French guy fucked it up in a painting in 1872.  The French... <rolls eyes, shakes head>

This isn't ancient Rome, it's the Surl, and on the Surl a thumbs down means OP sux cox n dix

Don’t be a moron. You can both hate trump and think that doing sweeps for kitchen drawer scissors and Phillips head screwdrivers is worthy of ridicule

knives dont stab people, people stab people

But it's too easy to get knives. Especially sharp ones. Who really needs a knife, anyway?

"I have nothing to lose. I will not take 'no' for an answer," Brown said. "If something like [the stabbing attack] happens again, I just don't know what I would do."

Kendrex White, 21, is charged with murder and aggravated assault in that stabbing spree. Police say he used a "Bowie- style" hunting knife to stab four male UT students. Harrison was fatally stabbed in the chest.

"Bottom line: It should have never happened that day. It should not have happened. [White] should have not been allowed to have an illegal knife on him and use it to murder somebody," Brown said.

Bowie knives are still illegal to carry on any school campus in Texas. But Texas law HB 1935, which was signed into law a little more than a month after the stabbing, made it legal to carry Bowie knives and other larger knives in more places around the state.

Is acid banned too?

What about trucks?

These europoors are so pathetic they think chewing their food instead of using knives is going to keeo the stabbings down.

Regardless of semantics, it's pretty clear that even though guns are banned over there, they still have a problem with violent people.  I see the same dynamic playing out over there as here - focusing on the tools/instruments instead of root causes, but I suppose it's the low hanging fruit.

Knives were not enough...

Some kids didn't get the memo about knives.

A boy is fighting for his life after he was allegedly disembowelled when he was stabbed on a south London housing estate. He was one of four children who were taken to hospitals in south London following the incident at Landor House, Camberwell yesterday. All the boys are aged between 15 and 16 years old and six attackers of the same age have been taken into custody.

Witnesses who saw the aftermath described at least one teenager who appeared to be seriously hurt. ‘That particular one, I hope he does live but by the looks of it and the way the ambulance had to struggle I would give it just an 8% (chance),’ said a 25-year-old woman, who did not want to be identified. It was very traumatising.’

The crime scene – littered with bloodied clothing, trainers and medical equipment – is just a short walk from Warham Street, where 23-year-old drill rapper Sidique Kamara, also known as Incognito, was stabbed to death on August 1. A witness to Thursday’s quadruple stabbing said he did not think any of those involved lived on the estate. ‘Ten minutes before the stabbing I saw a whole heap of youths run down that way,’ said the man, who asked not to be named, indicating towards the crime scene.

Nah, it's really 10 percent but the metric conversion makes it look like a more specific number.

yes-- but there is only a 5% chance of that.

Figures released Thursday show that 32 per cent of patients treated by airborne trauma specialists and paramedics in the first six months of 2018 were stabbing or shooting victims.

The second largest group of emergencies with 27 per cent of the total were road traffic accidents, with injuries sustained from a fall or height making up 20 per cent.

In March this, year Breitbart released figures in which London’s Air Ambulance had, in its first time in almost 30 years, attended to more victims of “penetrating trauma” than patients hurt in road accidents.

At the time, the service’s lead clinician, Dr. Gareth Grier, said it was no longer unusual for medics “to perform open-chest surgery for stab wounds twice in a single day”, continuing: “This would have been unheard of a few years back.”

London is in the throes of a violent crime epidemic. With 137 murders in 12 months, rising gun violence, knife violence, rape, and other serious offences, ...
