Welp, it finally happened. I snapped in public today. I went into work for a bit this morning because I’m trying to figure out the safest way to host physicians we are recruiting given our CV-19 sit

  • I don't really know what to say anymore tbh. What happened last night is hard to put into words for anyone who hasn't worked in a hospital healthcare setting. Just unreal. Everyone is getting fucked.

He was a miserable president who owes a great debt to Trump for stealing the shitlight, but I love how he looks amused by this likes it's a game. Thanks for posting the gif.

The “Is that all you got bro?” smirk is the best part.
I was texting with a nurse friend the other day.  She said that at her hospital, the ventilator is a death sentence.  No one comes off the vent alive.
So either ventilators are insufficient to save critical COVID patients or my friend works at the world’s shittiest hospital.

My understanding is you go on the ventilator so they can keep you breathing long enough to figure out how to help you. If they knew already, you wouldn’t be on the ventilator. Most of the time they don’t find a way out.
And Benny Hill's running the show.
More from AL.com:
"Christi Thornton, the city/county emergency management director, said the shipment of 5,880 procedure masks received last week were unusable because of dry rot. The masks had a 2010 expiration date, according to the city’s response to a survey by the U.S. Conference of Mayors."
Where were they stored, under John Wayne Gacy's house?

This is the kind of stuff I was talking about last week.

Compiling a sufficient stockpile on a national or state or local level is not just a one time expense.

It will need to be continually refreshed.

And then some Republican president or Majority Leader from 20 years in the future in the year 2040 will point to that item in the budget as “wasteful and alarmist and unnecessary” and end the program because we haven’t had a pandemic since 2020.

And when the next virus rolls around in 2045, we’ll be caught with our asses hanging in the wind again.

I didn't fucking know that helps means getting New York getting 1000 ventilators from China. I guess we should thank Trump for the nation developing Stockholm Syndrome.

2010?  Thanks Obama!

Hell, an expiration date of 2010 means it probably was replenished after 9/11, then promptly forgotten about.

Per Cuomo, ventilator patients have a 20% survival rate.  Its a last ditch effort, but it is better than the 0% rate these patients would have without ventilators.

With the death rate, it seems that ECMO could be tested more and rush manufactured as well. Way newer and way fewer machines around however.

South Dakota legislators decided Thursday to investigate allegations that Senate Majority Leader Kris Langer was drunk during a meeting earlier this week that involved legislation related to the coronavirus outbreak.

Both Langer, a Dell Rapids Republican, and Senate Pro Tempore Brock Greenfield, a Clark Republican, will be under investigation for their conduct during a marathon session that stretched from Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Quote

Langer and Greenfield oversaw the Senate proceedings from a conference room in the Capitol as lawmakers convened through teleconference to decide on a series of emergency bills for the coronavirus outbreak. As the Senate prepared to adjourn Tuesday morning, Sen. Phil Jensen, a Rapid City Republican, said he had heard Langer was intoxicated and had interrupted meetings in the House and Senate. He then attempted to move to create a disciplinary committee.

Jensen declined to tell The Associated Press who had told him about Langer's behavior, but said he noticed on a video broadcast of the meeting room that both Langer and Greenfield's speech was slurred. He did not make an accusation regarding Greenfield on Tuesday morning.

Quote

Greenfield told his colleagues on the phone that he had not seen Langer drinking. The Senate decided that Jensen could not move to immediately establish the committee due to a technicality, but senators suggested he could bring it up to the Executive Board, a committee of senior legislators from the House and Senate that decides on legislative proceedings.

Langer and Greenfield did not immediately respond to attempts to reach them for comment.

The Executive Board, which convened by teleconference on Thursday, met for about half an hour in a private meeting, saying they could do so because the issue was a personnel matter. Greenfield, who is the chair of the committee, recused himself from proceedings. Lawmakers then decided to create a committee of nine senators to investigate the conduct of Langer and Greenfield.

It is against the Legislature’s rules to drink or store alcohol in the Capitol.

Sen. Jim Bolin, a Canton Republican, initiated the measure, saying he wanted to “deal with this as quickly as we can” so they could come to a conclusion on what happened during the meeting earlier this week.

The committee will have five Republicans and four Democrats. They have until June 30 to report their findings.

The way it was used there and as Dr. Osborn describes...last ditch effort, I don't see why not.  Some people have very few outs left and if it comes to that, sure, try this as well.

That’s pretty easily fixable by selling the stockpile to the nation’s hospitals every couple years. Then it’s essentially just a money transfer from hospital-stockpile/fed-manufacturers. Yeah, it adds a middleman in the process every now and then, but in the end the costs are the same for the hospitals and the fed, and nothing ever goes to waste

Just like our military. We don't seem to have a problem with that.

That would require a government to operate slightly above functional. Instead, we are stuck with two parties eho spend their time fighting over social issues and how to transfer money to special interests.

Oh, now you gone and done it. Some people who are very emotionally invested in white knighting our dysfunctional political system are going to be very upset with you. And they are going to point to a presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to prove their point.  Or maybe the one where Joe Biden and Trump are representative.

I tell you what Biden likely would have done.  He, or someone he consulted, would have uncovered this powerpoint.  https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000170-e50c-d588-ab77-ed5ff3310000

Or the source documents from which it came.

Then, I bet it would have taken fewer than 45-60 days to implement what's in it.

The CDC probably would have fucked up testing to one degree or another, with an able assist from the FDA, but by starting earlier and with urgency, those fuckups could have been overcome more rapidly.

Of course because big guns and invisible planes and tanks make our collective penis feel larger.

Masks and gloves and gowns are just sissy nonsense.

Shouldn't be burying the dead in 2020. The death business is also a scam, just look at the costs of funerals. Direct cremation, then collect the ashes, and do whatever you want with them, is currently simultaneously the most economical and environmentally friendly way to deal with the dead.

They should pull themselves up by their bootstraps.  Doing something like this just starts a culture of dependency.  They should be drug tested, at least.

It all starts with basic situational awareness.  We could rapidly close gaps and be immeasurably better if we even had that.  Instead, we're stuck having to overcome willful denial and systematic inaction from the very top.  It's deadly, and it didn't have to be.
