I think that is what helped Eddie Murphy's return. It was short, funny skit then bail to another short, funny skit. Rapid fire comedy. Don't overthink it.

SNL has gotten better about this recently. "Aw man, I'm outta cash" was a good example. Ask the camera guy "Did you get that?" and have Chris Redd yell "No!" and we're done
