Atari plans to open a video game-themed hotel in Austin.

The company announced Monday it had partnered with Napoleon Smith III, the producer of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, and GSD Group, a branding and strategy firm, to open theme hotels in eight cities.

The first hotel will break ground in Phoenix this year. Atari also plans to build in Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle.

In a press release, the company promises “immersive experiences” for all ages and abilities. It says it will mix vintage games with the latest trends, like esports.

“When creating this brand-new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the ‘nostalgic and retro meets modern’ look and feel we were going for,” Smith said in a statement.

The company did not announce a date for when the hotel would break ground in Austin or where.

Will there be a special bar for old farts called the 2600 lounge?

Asking for me.

Yes, and they'll have Beer Pong.  Real Beer Pong.

Custer's Revenge suite for me.

I'm getting a room as soon as they open because my assteroids are killing me!

I'd sign up for the Adventure suite, but I'm scared there might be pegging.

That Pac Man Fever song will probably be piped into the elevators.  Just me mentioning the name has it playing in your head, doesn't it.

If you find a special small dot and carry it into a certain room can you walk through the wall into a secret room with the name of the hotel architect written on the wall?

Instead of a free mint on your pillow you get a free copy of ET. gotta do something with all those cartridges.

I still have my Atari 2600, so this hits close to Bobby Is Going Home.

I've got my 2600 and my Atari 400 computer with external tape cassette drive!

I will make sure my daughter stays there if available. This way I know she will be safe.

If this isn’t a prime example of just how much of an economic/CRE bubble we’re riding...

Now, if they opened up a Macintosh "Dark Castle" hotel.  Sign me up!

I heard ColecoVision is gonna start opening hostels.  It's a very underserved market, apparently.

Come on. A hotel chain run by a video game company whose heyday was 40 years ago is a great idea in any era.  What we really need though is a Gobots themed restaurant chain.

Seriously though, if this is successful I could definitely see another game company like Nintendo or Sega giving this a shot themselves.

I personally would definitely stay at a Nintendo themed hotel.  Mario, Luigi, and the crew, green warp pipes, and go-karts?  Yes please!

I get where you're going, but Sony would be my bet to jump in head first if this succeeds.

Games, Movies, Music...

Good point.

You can have my seat at the 2600 bar, but I'll be damn if I'll let you have my Journey Escape room.

You strike me as more of an ET guy anyway.

I will whoop your ass in Asteroids and Missile Command right now.  RIGHT NOW.

I did have Journey Escape -- meh.

No one would get out alive!

Oh and they’re going to start work on the new Universal Park in Orlando that’ll have Super Nintendo Land.

Asteroids?  I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret, 'cause I'm the best there's ever been.

True story, my cousin was the Guinness world record holder for arcade Asteroids for a while.

You're drunk and obviously staying down the street at the Nintendo hotel.
