But, yeah, as long as we are able to keep him safe from Big Balls and the other carried-away-with-slashing-and-burning DOGE boys -- no Cloak Room -- we should stick with CDC.

April 8Apr 8 I vote for BDC to replace “CDC”. Now go out there and win three championships in the big three sports and stop jerking us around
April 8Apr 8 Popular Post 13 hours ago, elfenix said: https://www.chron.com/sports/college/article/texas-am-houston-revenue-sharing-plans-amateurism-20262699.php Two things stuck out to me in that article. First, Trev Alberts quote: Quote "If you think about it, in 1994 I got drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and that was just after free agency came, so the same plaintiffs' attorneys in the House (v NCAA) case actually worked and brought free agency to the NFL," Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts told Chron about revenue sharing. "Even in the pro leagues, it wasn't perfect at the beginning. It took time, and then things materialized, and there was a natural progression that implemented. So, I don't see it being significantly different in the college space. I think our willingness to we got to stay together, and we'll get through it. It won't be perfect, but we'll adjust, adapt and be okay." Free agency was implemented by a collective bargaining agreement, not by a court order. There's a huge difference between the two. Court orders can and will be reshaped by new court orders, and state legislatures can still pass legislation that evokes a different rule set within that state, which will then compel other states to follow suit. It's also unclear how effective the enforcement mechanism will be. My guess is that it will require voluntary compliance on some level, which may or may not occur. The other problem is that compared to the NCAA, the NFL (and the other major sports leagues) are drastically limited in number. The fewer parties involved, the more likely it is that they work in tandem. All it takes is one or two outliers, then everyone else has to decide if they're going to follow suit or relegate themselves to not being as competitive. Another problem is that at the end of the day, the professional sports really are fundamentally about profit/loss and gains in value. The owners most definitely care about the return on investment. There is nothing about Phil Knight's donations or Larry Ellison funding the Bryce Underwood flip that's about return on investment, at least from a monetary standpoint. I'm not saying professional sports teams don't go out and overspend for a shot at a championship, but it's usually a short term deal and then they go back to their previous level of funding. That's not the case with college sports. I do not believe college sports will have a stable labor cost model until/unless Congress gets involved with federal legislation governing college sports. To me the House settlement is going to end up being a blip on the radar as we move to other models which may or may not work out as well. The key thing is this allows college athletes to be paid directly by universities at levels that go well beyond the previous stipends. That's huge. But this is not a solution, IMO. This is simply another step to whatever college sports ends up becoming. And it's not iterative, as Alberts is suggesting in his attempt to compare the college model to the NFL. It's a lurching in one direction or another based on court cases, various settlements, state legislatures putting their two cents in, and then bad actors tilting the model in one direction or another. Second, the valuations of Texas, A&M, and Texas Tech (I should make clear I find these valuations a joke designed to provoke conversation - they're not market tested and it's not clear how they would be): Quote Texas Tech football is the third-most valued program in the state at $389 million, according to a study published in the Wall Street Journal, though still a far cry from the value of Texas ($1.9 billion) or Texas A&M ($1 billion). I love how they say Texas Tech's $389 million valuation is a far cry from Texas and A&M, when their valuation is literally closer to A&M than A&M's valuation is to Texas.
April 11Apr 11 Some goofball basic-bitch thought that the Horns needed a fresh interpretation. Other morons on social media hype it up and try and push the redesign. CDC then shuts down the idiocy. https://longhornswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/2025/04/09/texas-longhorns-logo-concept-sparks-social-media-reaction/83017654007/ Edited April 11Apr 11 by ztejas

May 17May 17 Popular Post I was at the baseball game last Sunday. My wife and kid were playing in the bounce house on the third base side, so I was sitting at one of the picnic tables trying to watch the game. CDC happened to walk right by me, and I was about to introduce myself when he pivoted, reached down, and picked up a discarded napkin off of the ground. He then casually walked to the nearest trash can and deposited the waste, at which point he continued walking. I just sat there staring and thinking to myself that we have the best fucking athletic director in all of college sports. Every little detail matters to this guy. We are so lucky to have him.

May 19May 19 CDC didn’t hire Sark. I’m not sure how much he was even consulted on the matter. If I remember correctly he was pounding the table for James Franklin and Sonny Dykes at some point during the Urban stuff and he got sidelined. However, what he pulled off with Schloss and the timing in which he did it is one of the most epic chapters in our history. At least in my book. I will forever love the man for the way he stuck A&M right in the spleen and twisted the knife in front of their entire slack jawed fan base. To this day I can’t believe how fantastically brutal it was.
May 19May 19 I had lunch with my aggy buddy a few weeks ago, and his take was "have you guys no shame at all about hiring Schlossnagle?", and my response was NOPE, none at all.
May 19May 19 Why would we? People extend job offers to coaches all the time. He think aggy has a special “don’t hire our coaches” agreement with the NCAA?

May 29May 29 Popular Post Bobby Burton Texas AD Chris Del Conte met briefly with a small group of reporters here in the lobby of the Hilton Sandestin. Some notes: - Wants one football portal in January. Says that other sports could easily have a different portal window. For example, basketball needs to come in the spring after the season. - "I'm all in on more home games" as it relates to college football expansion. Cited his first-hand experience with the Clemson game last season as well as travel fatigue of fans after having to go to Atlanta twice and Dallas once more during the holiday season. - Feels like "strength of schedule metrics" need to play a greater role in college football playoff selection process. Cited the NCAA mens and women's basketball tournaments and the college baseball and softball tournaments as relying heavily on strength of schedule and the relative success of the SEC in those. Says current football playoff committee seems too subjective by comparison. - Del Conte is in favor of expanding the field from 12. - Del Conte is also in favor of expanding SEC schedule to 9 games, regardless of whether there is a change in the CFP. He wants the 9 game SEC schedule so that he is guaranteed at least four SEC home games every year. - Said that the ADs did not arrive at a consensus on CFP format and that was not "the goal" of the meetings today. - Waiting patiently on the approval of the House Settlement. Seems to have some confidence that is will be passed. - CDC refuted the $40mm NIL figure put forth for the Texas football team by Kirk Bohls. But CDC would not say the amount. CDC said there was some double-counting in Bohls' figures. - CDC says he wants to continue to schedule at least one major out of conference game per year, the likes of which are Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State. "Our fans want to see great games." - CDC feels very confident that, no matter of there is a 8- or 9-game schedule, that Texas will continue to play Oklahoma and Texas A&M on an annual basis.
