  • Here’s the thing: I’m not jazzed about Pete or Biden or Bloomberg.  But if the various Dem factions are going to demand perfection from their candidate, then we’re going to lose again to a Republican

  • Just got done reading this entire thread.  Your hate warms my heart.  Y'all like bacon?  Then shut the fuck up and tolerate our political absurdity.

It's insane this is allowed and that they get to go first and set the trend (at least for most Democratic nomination cycles).

Anecdotally Biden is having issues staying viable in some places, but this is all twitter rumor, so take with the proper amount of salt.

So Biden is going to clean up in the rurals right?  Because it looks baaaad so far.

Pete has campaigned hard in the rural areas. Klob as well.  Will be interesting.

I know fuck all about Johnston, IA, but NYT reporters reporting he didn't make the cut there. Sanders eeked it out over Klobuchar 76-75, Pete at 70, Warren at 59. No one else viable.

Edit: Meant cut on the first alignment, not second. I guess it is a Des Moines suburb that flipped from GOP to D in 2018. That Biden couldn't even get top four there is a bad look. Sanders has to feel good about coming in first there.

I am trying to understand this convoluted process but ...

I believe it.  The old people need to leave to go to sleep or change their depends.  The Bernie Bros aren’t switching their support.  They’ll hold out all night.

well they can’t switch if they’re viable, right?  and if they’re not, they have to switch or bounce on round 2. i think.

This is fun and everything, but this is fucking stupid.

Who the fuck has time to sit around in a gym for hours with a bunch of randoms? The rest of the country mostly swings by on the way to work or on the way home - usually takes no longer than 5-10 mins.

This is the gayest thing I've seen in awhile.

Uncommitted is a choice?  Are there really people that would show up just to hang out?

This shit is stupid. You want me to spend an hour or two on a Monday evening standing around with a bunch of strangers?

Are grills and beer allowed?

With what I know of your browser history, that's saying something!

I think I would like to go to one of these with a flask and a good sense of humor.

The 2008 Texas caucus was at the church across the street from my old apartment complex. A few of us pre-gamed and walked over to it fairly wasted. The caucus itself was pretty stupid, but it was pretty interesting and unique to witness and participate in. Was just Hillary and Obama and went much faster and less dramatically than these on TV though. Went to Doc's afterwards and continued drinking. Cool story bro.

Those mother fuckers just want some attention so they sit in the uncommitted stands so people will make them feel wanted.

Liz and Bernie as 1/2 or 2/1 makes me very very very very happy.

Good lord Biden

Yeah, so far he is getting pummeled. Who was the last person to win the Caucus and the nomination?

Lol, they’re just now starting to count in the place where Tapper is?   It’s been an hour and a half and they’re just starting?

This piece of shit state should be kicked out of the Union.

Democracy inaction!

Biden already down $0.08 on predict today... got a feeling that he may be more toast with the Midwest electorate than people suspect.

He said earlier that they didn’t have enough cards for the number of people that showed up. So they had to wait for more. Then they tried to count the total number of people attending, but somehow they failed at that the first time around so they had to do it again.

Sorry guys, we ran out of toner.

No democracy for you!

Question - if Biden is unviable in the first round in a precinct, he is out for that precinct right? One guy is saying they can make Biden viable after the first round. I didn’t think it worked that way.

As a Democrat? Iowa winner has won pretty much every recent nomination. Someone named the last year they didn't earlier in the thread I think, but it was a while back. Of course, that includes some sitting Presidents and a VP, as well as what was essentially a tie in 2016, so that streak as as tenuous as one that long can be.

Earlier Claire McCaskill said that the Satellite caucuses were just people who "showed up early". No one knows what's going on, including me.

Yes, assuming rural areas are not coming in as quickly.

In round two, can all the rejects get together for 15% and pick a candidate that was unviable in round 1?

Biden is having a terrible night so far.

CNN just showed a precint where uncommitted just barely made viable at 15.4%.  Lulz, why?  Presumably they still have to join a viable group for the 2nd round right?

Waiting to see any good news for Biden but it hasn't shown up yet.

Ah, John King is back. That's how you know shit is getting real
