February 18, 20205 yr Yeah, and of course i flipped on the last 20 laps and watched with my 7 year-old, and he’s happy that the Toyota won (we have a Toyota, and of course he associates Fedex with getting stuff). Now he’s peppering me with questions about the crash.
February 18, 20205 yr Just now, Lat22 said: I just hope Ryan’s ok. I guess he’s ok, isn’t he? Yeah, about that..,. and it looks like Hamlin tapped the brakes as Newman came across in front of him, could have been a lot worse if Newman went over the top of him.
February 18, 20205 yr I’ve never liked Menards drivers. And people were shitting on Hamlin on Twitter for celebrating, but now that everybody saw the replay, they turned on Blaney.

Remember when Sterling Marlin was getting blamed for Dale Sr dying? It was nuts.
February 18, 20205 yr That crash was terrible with two huge direct hits with wall and another car. Hope he survived.
February 18, 20205 yr Author People there know it’s bad. The broadcasters. The other drivers. You can tell. And now, just like in 2001, I’ll get on the Internet.
February 18, 20205 yr I’ve only watched a few endings of the Daytona 500. I watched Dale Sr.’s last race and today I was on the phone with my roommate from that race as I watched the end of today’s race. The lack of comment on Newman’s Status from Jeff Gordon and the other guy before signing off is not a good sign.

If twitter existed back then, imagine the conspiracy theories that would have been hatched about Marlin. Speaking of twitter, these folks are fast on the photoshops
February 18, 20205 yr Getting hit at 200mph in a frame that just absorbed a direct hit into the barrier can't be good.
February 18, 20205 yr Anybody that missed it, here it is. If he survived, he’s gonna probably retired after this
February 18, 20205 yr I'm honestly surprised he survived the wreck, given how much the driver's side roof caved in. I'd guess that first direct hit while he was airborne weakened the roof before landing on it. Plus fire. Holy hell what a nightmare crash. Joe Gibb needs to fire some people. Hamlin and his crew may be the most tone deaf morons in NASCAR. What a terrible look to keep celebrating like that. Did no one tell Denny about Newman's condition? Scumbags. February 18, 20205 yr And now Fox takes us from a manly event like Nascar to the super homo Lonestar 911. Fuck you fox
February 18, 20205 yr Author They used black screens to shield the view of the fans when they took him out of the car.

February 18, 20205 yr The guy above is local media, hence his mention of NASCAR booting the media out of the pits.

February 18, 20205 yr Author The hospital is literally two blocks from the track. Don’t read much into not using lifeflight.
February 18, 20205 yr severe, yes, but that was after the safety crew cut the car apart to extract the driver.
February 18, 20205 yr Before it landed for a 2nd time on the driver's side and then slid down the track: Spoiler Edited February 18, 20205 yr by clapclapclap
February 18, 20205 yr My gut says if they were sure he’d survive, we’d have some kind of update, or leaked news from one of the dozens of people that would have heard by now, outside of “he’s awake”. Pit crew and their family members, journalists who are buddies with the team, etc. somebody would have said something.
February 18, 20205 yr Author No cover on the car might be a good sign. Grain of salt, but on Twitter somebody there said four guys put him on the stretcher while another guy was furiously doing CPR on him.
February 18, 20205 yr It’s amazing how much safety equipment has improved since Earnhardt’s wreck. You watch it now and it doesn’t look as bad as a lot of what you see now. Saying that, I get a sick feeling with the hit on the roof/window. There just isn’t much room there for a lot of movement.
February 18, 20205 yr 12 minutes ago, Lat22 said: No cover on the car might be a good sign. I wouldn’t read much into that. Lot of blood in Earnhardt’s car - his chin/face bent in the steering wheel.
February 18, 20205 yr Yikes, that video above where the Orlando reporter is asking if he’s awake and gets somebody on the team to say yes is being pushed all over as “Newman is awake”. Meanwhile, silence for almost an hour-and-a-half. I’m sure followers of the actress Ryan Newman were briefly freaking out.
February 18, 20205 yr Fox Sports finally took down their call caps tweet about cheering the ending. Another view of the crash
February 18, 20205 yr Not sure if this is good or bad, but NASCAR setting up a live stream https://www.nascar.com/presspass
February 18, 20205 yr Geez...Daytona News-Journal... "Ryan Newman, who was trying to win his second Daytona 500, had a wild ride as his No. 6 Ford flipped and caught on fire in a crash at the finish line."
February 18, 20205 yr Two hours on and no update. Not even an "alert and awake". This is so terrifying.
