Ol' Paul saw some shit in his day!

Also, one of my favorite Willie songs.

Hate to hear it. Me and Paul is a great song. Doubt anyone has stared at the backside of Willie more than Mr. English. Rest in peace. Hope the traveling is smooth and rock-free on the journey to the other side.

This is sad news. Paul was a great wingman for Willie. Didn't put up with any bullshit.

RIP, Paul.

“Almost busted in Laredo but for reasons that I’d rather not disclose.

and if you’re stayin in a motel there and leave just don’t leave nothin in your clothes.

and at the airport in a Milwaukee they refused to let us board the plain at all...

they said we looked suspicious, but I believe they liked to pick on me and Paul...”

On the plain to evermore, they can’t refuse him now anymore.

RIP to Paul.

Always thought this was an awesome pic of him:

The stories of him always being the one to be the muscle to make sure they got paid by the honkey tonk managers back in the day are awesome.

Should have gotten the pay up front, like Aretha.  See that purse?  It's holding her cash.  She always got paid up front.

Chuck Berry too.

He refused to play a double bill with James Brown at a Wiltern show that I went to, because they wouldn't cash his check at the box office.

James went on and set the place on fire.  Nobody missed Berry.

My Dad tells a story of Chuck Berry coming to play in Lubbock, coming onstage and calling out the club owner for short changing him because there were obviously more people at the venue than he’d been paid for. Chuck said he was going to go outside to the parking lot and wait in his car until he got paid. And that’s what he did, nearly causing a riot in the process by turning the ire of the entire audience towards the club and it’s owner.
