The N54 only claims 300 hp, but tuner dynos show it making more HP stock than the Mazda 3.3's 340 hp. And the BMW claims 382 hp for the B58 (2 generations from the N54) but some people have gotten over 400 stock. That's generally the case comparing US/JAP/KOR to Euro cars, but BMW under rates even more than the other Euro's. A B58 actually making 400 hp at 3.0L compared to a Mazda 3.3L actually making 271 is a huge difference. If you want to win a drag against a BMW, you better have 100+ more claimed HP. But I sure do wish they would put that 3.3 in the Miata, or even the 2.5 Turbo. Yeah was gonna say this. And Mazda hypes their engine tech so much, you'd think going against trend with that displacement and configuration it would be more of a fire breather. And I was really focused more on the lo-po variant than the hi-po. You can allegedly use regular in the lo-po. Not sure I'd chance it. Also saw some things like timing chain at rear of block and some other curious choices that can make it a maintenance hassle.
September 23Sep 23 More fun with the baby Raptor last weekend in Talladega National Forest. A 20° side incline makes it feel like the truck is going to tip over. Cameras never do it justice. The F150’s can get hairy with the long wheel base: And a $25M car at Ed’s house. No big deal.

October 15Oct 15 Tell me about the new Lexus GX? I want an SUV again. I had a Lexus (although an IS350, so completely different) and loved the service compared with the three different German dealerships I've had to deal with since. I really like how it looks, and it has a bigger engine than the land cruiser. But is it just the same truck in a prettier package? I drove the old one a couple of times and wasn't thrilled.
October 15Oct 15 Wife has the new GX. We also test drove the land cruiser, the lexus is in every way better (power, luxury, smoothness). She loves it. It is pretty quick, i never think, oh this needs a bunch more power. She has the Overtrail + and those curbs at HEB have never been overlanded better. Gas mileage is pretty bad in town - 15 ish, and a smallish gas tank. I think my raptor gets better and i have a 36 gal tank so i think every car runs out of gas too soon. @A-Tex Devil Edited October 15Oct 15 by Mr. Drummond
October 16Oct 16 I think those Hyundais are kind of coolHave a buddy in CO that spots a black one and it’s legit perfect for his outdoor lifestyle / city living.
October 16Oct 16 I’ve gotten old and don’t obsess over cars like I did in the past but got damn I heard the new Urus SE with the Akrapovic exhaust and bought it on the spot after a 10 min test drive. Have never owned an SUV and I don’t think I’ve driven a more fun car for Chicago. /CSB
October 16Oct 16 Lack of obsession noted. I wish I had the same lack of obsession to buy a boring Urus.

Which is laughable on every level.
October 16Oct 16 At least it has a generous amount of torque for all the moms that will take this off road where it belongs.

October 17Oct 17 My second daughter asking me thoughts around attending SMU with her older sister pretty much satisfied any Lambo itch I may have had.
November 3Nov 3 More fun in the North Georgia mountains in the baby Raptor this weekend. That tire will cost me $330 without installation but, worth it. Someone brought a brand new Shelby Raptor R. 900hp and almost $200K. His wife was upset about getting it dirty. Sounded glorious.

I say A- because it's not flawless. Some of the edges aren't perfectly perfect. Maybe I expect too much though. I did a full front and windshield for about $2500. Not Xpel.
November 3Nov 3 AFS does a lot of work on Porsches, Lambos and McLarens due to their proximity to the North Houston sales location for those dealerships on I45 north of the Beltway. I assume they get repeat business because they do good work.

It’s crazy to me that folks will drop $75k on a package that you can have done for $30-35k without the Shelby bits. But I guess money doesn’t matter to the folks that do.
November 10Nov 10 Car got pelted by a hailstorm. Got tons of little dents that weren't even visible unless you tried looking for them. But because my insurance policy explicitly exempts storm damage from tweaking my rates, I made a claim for repair. The real shitstorm: repair cost $9k plus $2k for 3 weeks of rentals. Car is worse off in every way since they (insurer-suggested shop) fucked up the trims, scratched my headlight housing, oversprayed into things like my windows, my side mirror doesnt fucking work, etc. To top it off, insurance is trying to raise my rates despite it being a clearcut exemption. Had I'd known all this shit I'd just negotiate for $5k cash and leave the car as-is.

I had a some work done to my spectre and insisted the guy get it all done before it was delivered in Miami - bought in Chicago. The old days I took pride in taking my cars all over town and getting things done but those days are gone. Maybe I’ll start that Singer project after all. Get my ass in gear.

Issue was with all the sensors on modern cars the repaint left all that a mess. So they had to take it back and replace whole front bumper etc. Giant pain in the ass but at least valet’s insurance at my building covered it all.
November 12Nov 12 Bought a new Cadi escslade to tote the kids around.I tried the lexus gx550, Infiniti qx80 and range rover.Just couldnt get passed them being so small. Its been great so far.Hoping the 6.2 doesnt crater like the ‘24s and below.Had to go to Central Houston Cadi to get it. Covert/Garlyn Shelton Cadi kept giving me the run around. Didvthecdeal online with CHC. Drove down and picked it up. In and out in under 5 minutes. They do a ton of Rockets/Texans/Stros cars.

November 13Nov 13 Seem to be the poster child for weird problems on my 2024 RX350. last year needed a new drivers window since a 6 inch scratch magically appeared on the inside of the old one. Glass is not easy to scratch and they found nothing inside the door. I change my own oil but for 55 bucks they will rotate the tires at 20K. Great price for me to avoid doing it. While waiting get a text and video from technician. CV boot has exploded. It is torn all 360 degrees. These thing are supposed to last 10 years. Service manager is like - never seen that on a new vehicle. Replacing entire CV joint under warranty except the part is unavailable right now. Maybe in 2-3 weeks. Since it had not slung too much grease out I wrapped the tear in duct tape and will drive it until parts come in or destruction of CV joint.
November 13Nov 13 I asked that. They said the loaner rules require them to have the parts to do the repair. Probably going to call corporate and see what they say. Also for the added wild card enjoyment. The dealer uses RX350's for loaners and a large number of them are not available due to a recall for rear camera.
