August 8Aug 8 Spotted at Sprouts in the Houston area. Two items of note - Paper tag expired a couple months ago and always amazed by the amount of rear tire rubber on the ground in a Lambo.

I've spent some time in both, and the 720 (and 750) feels significantly different than the 570. They offer more "wow factor", for lack of a better term. The exterior and interior of the 720 have more detail and thought put into them. It presents as a product that more thought was put into the design, rather than the 570, which other than the doors, feels like most other cars. For either one, you'll want to figure out where the closest dealer is and assume you'll be bringing the car to them frequently. Your other option for service is to check this guy's schedule and get on it: https://www.mcmedics.com/ I just spent yesterday at COTA in a 750S, and it's an impressive car. The August heat only allowed for one hot lap at a time, and the 750S next to us puked out coolant after it's first session, so you can't expect the reliability of a Porsche. However, if you're goal is to own something you don't see every day, that works great on regular roads, and has an insane performance envelope, it's an option to consider. August 22Aug 22 Bringing this back to earth, I see that Mazda is making a 3.0 inline six. Those are getting rare these days, even among bimmers. Kind of disappointing numbers, though. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a43975258/2024-mazda-cx-90-inline-six-engine/
August 23Aug 23 The Ferrari 458 broke my mind when it came out. The 488 and its derivatives are still my dream cars. I'm not so hot on Lambos, although I'd take one if you wanted to give it to me, or if I could play football. In other breaking news, on Wednesday I spent just under $25K on a new Mazda, so I think I have a ways to go on the financial front before I should be posting in this thread. What did you pay for which new Mazda? Need to buy my kid a car and used prices are dumb

It's a lot more restrained than most of the cars in that price range (including the Mazda3 hatchback along with the usuals like the Civic, Corolla and Jetta).
August 23Aug 23 GR Corolla or just a Corolla with a body kit? The GR Corolla looks like a blast to drive. 300 HP out of a 3 cyl turbo with a manual and AWD. A kid in my neighborhood has one and it sounds killer. I don’t know if he’s got aftermarket exhaust or stock, but it sounds like an LS and a 3 rotor rotary had a baby.
August 23Aug 23 Is a 3-banger as smooth as an inline 6? This seems like something @jimmyjazz could answer on the theoretical basis. ETA: the answer seems to be no. Edited August 23Aug 23 by TwiceHorn

Is an "inline 6" the same thing? Well, depends on definition of "flat." If you mean horizontally opposed or boxer, that is less than perfect, but inline is the most inherently balanced. Looking it up myself, rotating-plane balance on a 3 is off, while reciprocating balance is perfect. Also, the power strokes don't overlap, which is a power-delivery issue I suppose more than a vibratory one. But that also can devolve into a torsional imbalance that's made worse by the length of the inline 6 crank. It appears that a horizontally opposed six would be quite well balanced if the engine used "fork and blade" rods so that each pair of opposing cylinders shared a common centerline, but in reality, most times the rods are paired next to each other, necessitating some longitudinal spacing of the opposing cylinders. August 23Aug 23 Well, all I remember is that some variation of a 6 was deemed "best" out of the box. Trust me, I'm not really a dynamics guy (although acoustics & vibrations are adjacent, and those fields I DO know a thing or two about).

Yeah, I figured you might be able to thumbnail vibration analyze the things. But there's a lot going on there beyond the masses of the pistons just slinging around.

Like, it's not built to cruise around the coastline in portofino is it?
August 29Aug 29 Anybody have an idea how long it takes to get the registration sticker for a new vehicle in Texas? We purchased a car on August 6. The dealer put the license plates on at the time of sale and said we'd receive the sticker in the mail. We're over 3 weeks out at this point. (Yes, I've called the dealer, nobody has called back yet because why would they? The check cleared.)
August 29Aug 29 Just picked up a '25 Hyundai Ioniq5 for my oldest. Colorado has insanely cheap leases for these vehicles right now. Sticker price of almost $50k and I paid just over $200/mo with only first payment down on a 24 month lease. My first EV, but I'm impressed with how it drives. It was an easy choice with how fucked the used car market is. I'm not paying $15k for a 10 year old Outback or Rav4 with 100k miles.

August 29Aug 29 Popular Post I got tired of driving a truck. Went and traded my Tundra for a 2023 Porsche Macan GTS. Needed the SUV for soccer stuff and my bike. This thing is fun to zip around in.

McLaren is not exactly known to be bulletproof, and COTA in the Texas summer has done in plenty of supercars. You want reliability on track? Buy a Porsche.
September 2Sep 2 Does anyone have experience/thoughts on the 3.0 Duramax? Opinions online vary wildly with a lot of people talking shit about an oil pump belt that has to be replaced around 200k miles. I'm looking at Yukon XLs and the mileage on the newer models has fallen off quite a bit from what I get in my '18 6.2. The Duramax option is intriguing to me for the additional range, but I've never owned a diesel before.

If they are anything like the big DMax, then I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. Just got rid of mine 150 miles short of 300k. The new owner is towing all kinds of heavy shit around south texas with it and has already put on a good amount of miles.

Torque & fuel mileage have been fantastic. It has been used for what I would call medium duty towiing, around 7500lbs trailer weight, and has been great. Previous truck was the 5.3. As a first-time diesel owner, adding DEF is the only annoying thing - but that is every 1000+ miles or so

I was considering a truck, but I think I need one more Dadmobile before getting back to a truck. There aren't as many Yukon XLs around as there are trucks with the 3.0 in them, but that's the way I'm leaning at the moment. The transmission in my '18 is acting a little dodgy and the A/C started blowing just cold enough to piss me off last week, so it might be time. I guess you can do the DEF delete after the factory warranty is out as well?

September 6Sep 6 I’ve been told this doesn’t belong in the shitbox thread, so X-posting here. Rojo Jr’s new whip. 2014 Focus ST. 2 litre turbo 4 with 3 pedals. It’s a fucking blast to drive and makes me want a 3rd pedal back in my life. The car is immaculate. Adult owned and garage kept its whole life, tastefully updated and lightly modded. RS intake, upgraded intercooler (big gainer in this car, factory one is tiny and gets heat soaked fast) Cobb stage 1 91 octane tune, and factory ST exhaust with a resonator delete. Also has a Turbosmart BOV so it makes cool turbo noises. I bought it out of town and drove it home yesterday and couldn’t stop smiling
September 8Sep 8 Made an appointment to go look at a Boxster later this week. I’m setting up a Go-Fund-Me if anyone wants to contribute.
September 9Sep 9 Based on my two weeks in a Macan GTS - buy the Porsche. This thing is really fun to drive.
September 9Sep 9 I click on this thread to not hear things like, "traded in my Tundra for a Porsche." Yall some hoes.
September 9Sep 9 All this done in the last month or so. Front chin splitter, rear wing, smoked led side markers, smoked covers on rear reflector and reverse light and windows limo’d over factory tint.
September 9Sep 9 Need to do wheels and tires and lower it a bit and looks wise it’ll be pretty much done. Then down the road I’ll have to decide on supercharger or turbos. But that’ll be awhile

As any BMW enthusiast will tell you though, BMW numbers are not Mazda/Toy/Hon/US numbers. The N54 only claims 300 hp, but tuner dynos show it making more HP stock than the Mazda 3.3's 340 hp. And the BMW claims 382 hp for the B58 (2 generations from the N54) but some people have gotten over 400 stock. That's generally the case comparing US/JAP/KOR to Euro cars, but BMW under rates even more than the other Euro's. A B58 actually making 400 hp at 3.0L compared to a Mazda 3.3L actually making 271 is a huge difference. If you want to win a drag against a BMW, you better have 100+ more claimed HP. But I sure do wish they would put that 3.3 in the Miata, or even the 2.5 Turbo.
