His family of course could not be present for his MLB debut.

Well, this was already designated another rebuilding year.  The problem is that its obviously too short of a season for the players to really develop, imo.  So it gives the org another excuse in terms of expectations.  "We thought we'd be good by 2022, but now its looking like 2023."   Even then, they better do something fast about this pitching situation, because its horribad.

So we won a game yet?  No?  Well at least we have a first baseman. So we got that going for us. Which is nice.

ETA: one win. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Holy shit, they won?

I just googled "mariners score" and the first question under "People Also Ask" was "Why are the Mariners so bad?"

I still don't really know the difference between jam, jelly, preserves, or marmolejos.

I've seen more than one poster on game threads call him Marmelade.

Mariners shake up scouting department, won’t retain VP Tom Allison

The Mariners have informed Tom Allison, the team’s vice president of scouting, that his contract will not be renewed when his deal expires on Oct. 31, The Athletic has learned. The club is also informing a number of baseball operations employees, including professional and amateur scouts, that their contracts will not be renewed, sources confirmed.

The move comes as a surprise. Allison was a holdover from Jack Zduriencik’s tenure as general manager, but he and his staff were key players in Seattle’s ongoing rebuilding project under current GM Jerry Dipoto. The Mariners opened their state-of-the-art training facility in the Dominican Republic in 2014, and Allison’s scouting staff signed and developed Dominican players such as outfielders Julio Rodriguez and shortstop Noelvi Marte, two of the organization’s top prospects.

Dipoto did not respond to a request for comment on Thursday evening.

Allison is in his 30th season in professional baseball, his eighth with Seattle and fifth overseeing professional, amateur and international scouting for the club. He joined the Mariners on Sept. 26, 2012, as the director of professional scouting. He has also worked for the Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Brewers and the Mets.

The timing of the notices is unusual, but the decision to inform baseball operations staff now conceivably allows them more time to find new jobs well before the end of their current contracts.

Read this one after you read the Rangers entry. OK, with that context, the Mariners did what the Rangers should've done when it was clear they weren't barreling toward having a contending club: a power rebuild! It takes buy-in from ownership to go along with this, it's not fun for most fans to watch, and the Mariners will be one of the worst teams in the league this year after being one of the worst teams in the league last year. That being said, 2021 looms as the year when it could turn northward.

Outfielder Kyle Lewis (a 438-foot homer, 1.115 OPS through seven games, third-highest WAR in baseball) has fully recovered from a torn ACL in 2016, shortstop J.P. Crawford has posted the fourth-highest WAR in baseball, and first baseman Evan White is showing promise after signing a team-friendly extension before playing a big league game, while top prospects in outfielders Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez are lurking maybe a year away, along with top 2020 draftee Emerson Hancock, top 2019 draftee George Kirby and top 2018 draftee Logan Gilbert, all right-hander pitchers.

That's nice stuff.  But I do wonder what letting the VP of scouting go, who I would guess was part of this rebuild.  Mariners pitching dev still spooks me--they seem to develop better elsewhere.

But, sheeit, what's the worst that can happen at this point?  Uh, non-covid related that is.
