Long ago, there was a place called Arthur Treacher's that was pretty good.  Pretty much Long John Silver with a very English theme. I suspect Alfie's above was a former Arthur Treacher's.

That was my first thought when I saw that photo.

My mom was raised on cornmeal-breaded panfish and occasionally catfish.
She was super-intrigued by the breading of fish and chips, particularly the very savory crust of Long John Silvers.  To that end, she actually purchased a package of their breading mix and for a while we had it at home.

They still have them on the east coast. Went to one at a rest stop in the jersey turnpike and it was ok but greasy.
FYI, those rest stops have food courts.

Don't go to the Denny's.

I was inspired to order fish and chips after reading this thread for days. Not shabby.

The parsley flakes and lemon wedge make it a balanced meal.

Are those dolmades in the background?

There was one in suburban Atlanta about 15 years ago. I'd completely forgotten about it.

Yessir, sharp eye. And top left is the edge of a round falafel.

Well now I'm hungry. Thanks a lot.

Just seeing this thread title brought rough memories of the year I played for the English club and had to live in that country. God awful food. I had my mom ship me a package of Tony Chachere's so I could season the food enough to make it barely edible.

^ You would have loved this thread then.
