May 12May 12 Popular Post The scenes involving the infected, the wolves and the cult are great. The scenes about Ellie and Dina's budding relationship are pretty fucking terrible.

Like, let’s make a crazy set that would not have survived and start an even more over-the-top musical number…and then just kidding. Two, flat, potato face with dead eyes works well at the end. The guitar aspect makes more sense in the game as it was a big bond between Ellie and Joel, so by extension expanding it to her new relationship is logical, from a purely plot/character/relationship growth aspect. But even in the game I was... this doesn't seem like a great time or place for this.. but..
May 12May 12 So judging by the preview, next week's episode is going to be a flashback and the story of Joel and Ellie getting to Jackson.
May 12May 12 I took it as she let a bit of the great memories back in that she had with Joel and learning to play but then remember his murder is why she's there so all that good stuff needs to get pushed back down. Next week appears to have flashbacks. I was wondering if we were going to get those every time she killed a member of Abby's team based on seeing one after she pipes the bald chick.

May 12May 12 Do we know definitely if this season will wrap up the 2nd game or if that's pushed to season 3? If it's the former, maybe that's not a bad thing given how Game of Thrones went after the book material ran out. I'm not sure where we are in the 2nd game and how much is left having not been a game fheg.
May 12May 12 One gripe that I had with the episode was the scout team to the hospital basement realizing they're fucked, having the wherewithal to order that they be sealed in, but not painting the walls with each other's brain stems, thus dooming themselves to a horrible existence. I understand breaking some in show rules in order to create a visually cool or disturbing scene, but offing yourself and/or others when you realize that you're infected is THE rule of zombie movies/shows/games.

May 12May 12 I haven't watched a single episode of this show. However, based on the posts in this thread, which I have read/skimmed it sounds like the show is basically turning into TWD.

At least stick to the sides of the buildings and speak a little more quietly. In fairness though, this happened a little bit with Joel in season one as well.

Why would people think or hope this? Especially for a show like this? There was a 28 month gap from S1 to S2 and it looks like it'll be the same for S3. Entirely expected.

In the post-episode discussion with the filmmakers, one mentioned that those people spore factories had been stuck down there in limbo for several years, which was surprising because, like you, I had initially assumed they were the team that had been mentioned earlier. I very much agree with your second point. When Ellie and Dina were shown wandering around the city yammering out loud, I wanted to tell them to STFU already. They clearly understand the need for relative quiet because of their reaction to the clanging tank hatch. With them not using their inside voices in a potentially hostile place, I got fairly annoyed by the casual disregard of stealth.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your misunderstanding, and there might be multiple spore factories with some being much older than others, but the Korean guy/factory had "L. PARK" on his jacket, and his mother (also last name Park) talked about him dying down there as part of the scout team.
May 12May 12 I guess it's possible the prologue scene was years earlier..... It isn't connected to the rest of the episode, and it seemed Nora knew it was in the air. The pre-credits scene specifically talked about keeping it quiet. Prepuce pointed out correctly that def was the prologue scene woman's son.

I think the scout team was from years ago, and the interrogation with Park's mother was a flashback. They mention that Isaac is out investigating a potential breech of the cease fire between WLF and the Scars during the interrogation. There sure as shit ain't no cease fire in place when Ellie comes to town. A little clunky and needlessly confusing. Edited May 12May 12 by aggie08

It was certainly a surprise to me when I was watching the post-episode stuff, and one of the showrunners (no real clue or memory of who was talking) said they'd been down there for a "years." @A-Tex Devil and @aggie08 provide better explanations/context, I think. But, yeah, it was a bit confusing when I heard that. I wasn't fully engaged, though, as I was sleepy, getting ready for bed, and still nursing a hangover from Saturday night.
May 12May 12 Huh. I'm now confused. How were we supposed to understand that was a flashback? And wasn't there another scene later in the episode when the Wolves were all standing around and admiring the barrier they had welded into place to keep the one access point stairwell closed off? I don't understand how that would even matter if it was a flashback, but maybe that will become clearer later. Not interested in having anyone spoil anything by confirming or denying, but when Nora was given her little defiant pre-bludgeoning speech, she said something that caught my attention - "she does exist" or similar. Made me wonder if somehow Ellie is the mythical female that all the Scarfaced Amish are worshipping, and if so, perhaps they provide the deus ex machina that allows Ellie to overthrow the Wolves and all their seemingly superior logistical and firepower advantages.

May 12May 12 I know this is way out of left field, but I don't understand the security situation. WLF has armored vehicles, automatic weapons, fancy patrols but --- there's a park full of Scars, as well as several buildings they just kind of walk around knowing that there are Clickers inside?
May 12May 12 Hits nail on head.https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-last-of-us-season-2-episode-5-recap In the ‘Last of Us’ games, sprinting through carefully designed levels full of interactive obstacles can be a lot of fun. But when you’re watching it happen on HBO, it gets old fast

But pregnant Mary Sue triangulated all their positions using a walkie talkie and a paper map of a city she has never visited and was able to pinpoint every spot where the WLF is watching so they can be safe on certain roads.
May 13May 13 but when Nora was given her little defiant pre-bludgeoning speech, she said something that caught my attention - "she does exist" or similar. Made me wonder if somehow Ellie is the mythical female that all the Scarfaced Amish are worshippingI took it to mean that Nora had merely heard from her WLF/Firefly buddies that there was supposedly an immune girl in SLC at the time of Joel’s bloodbath 5 years ago. Abby would’ve told her if no one else, but from their POV, Ellie disappeared after that so her existence would’ve become a bit of an urban legend. Seems like 5 years without any sign of her would make a lot of people wonder if it was ever true at all.
May 13May 13 Perhaps I’m missing something, but why does it matter if Leon and the scout team died immediately prior to the rest of the episode or in the distant past? Perhaps the timing is vague because that’s irrelevant and the story is unchanged by that detail. If it becomes relevant later, then I’m sure there will be stronger clues to fill us in.

I was just chiming in on your previous comment about that cool scene: Well the bald chick became incapacitated fairly quickly, so maybe the scout team started to transform before they understood what was happening and had any ability to kill themselves. And letting you know that the scout team had been down there a long time. But, in retrospect, you're right that my response wasn't relevant at all to the point you were making. I think it was already on my mind, and I wanted to read in your comment something that wasn't actually meant.

May 13May 13 How is no one talking about the Jesse coming out of fucking no where to save the damsels in distress? I mean, talk about some dumb bullshit, how the fuck would he know it was them in the random building surrounded by guard towers on either side? And then he heroically grabs Dina, carries her out of the woods and whisks her off to safety after they were spotted by the forest people? C'mon man, that's just silly.

Considering the CO (the lady from Waiting) looks to eventually become the cult leader.

May 13May 13 Well it’s also pretty predictable from the moment they separated from Jesse. Everyone should’ve expected him to show up at a critical moment, and if that’s a hard plot development to accept, this may not be the show for you.

He's not a superhero or a dragon, it makes no sense that he would know exactly where they were in Seattle, in the middle of the night, in a random building. Unless he was tracking them while they were walking down the road out in the open that day and followed them for a while. That actually would be entertaining and kind of funny if he was listening to their conversations, and just realized his girlfriend is a lesbian after risking his life to travel for weeks to come save her.

After Season 1 aired, out of anticipation, I watched a handful of Last of Us 2 cutscenes. I distinctly remember that, "I stumbled upon your perfectly labeled map and was able to easily ascertain where you were headed next" occurred more than once. So cant really blame the show on that one. I don't know about you, but whenever I spend hours charting out the roads of a major metropolitan area during an apocalypse, I never take that map with me because I'm not worried that zombies, cultists, or militia could possibly force me to deviate from my critical path.
May 13May 13 ok I'm caught up. I guess its not as bad as I thought it would be. will be sticking it out.. "its in the air"
