Some fucking lowlife decided to toss a rock through my back glass slider yesterday afternoon. Went straight for my bedroom and got my 1911. Guess that was enough for him because he didn't grab anything else and was out 30 seconds later, left a perfectly good AR leaning in the corner, right next to my nightstand where he found the pistol. Have cameras on the front of the house, but not the back, and the one internal camera was in the living room, where he didn't go through. 4 more cameras inbound, and now I gotta install a new fucking door.

Kinda hope he comes back today while I'm at home, I have some much bigger guns I'd like to introduce him to.

Fucking worthless fuck...

Heroin addict, most likely.

Dude get a safe instead of leaving heaters laying around the house when you're not home. It's probably going to get sold for drug $$$ and someone is going to wind up getting killed with your pistol.

Maybe he broke in because he wanted to talk to the girl in your avatar.

Arlo and other wireless cameras are so inexpensive and easy to set up. Dude probably had been casing your house. Cameras deter thieves.

Breaks in and goes straight for a single item and leaves.

I could see him casing your joint and knowing where the outside cameras are. Knowing where your inside cameras are is worriesome.

Or he probably just knows that most gun owners keep one in the bedside table so that's the best place to hit first.

Thought this initially as well, but the dog was making a ton of noise in the living room, our bedroom is right off the kitchen, and my nightstand is closest to the door. It was literally the closest thing of high value to the point of entry. Also, anyone that knows I have a pistol, much less that pistol, and where it is, would also know how to get into the gun safe in my closet. We have video from the neighbors, it was someone walking down the street. We were gone all last week, so probably had cased the house already.

This is exactly what the officer said. They have stopped going for the big TV's because they are too cheap/easily damaged/too hard to carry.

less of him knowing where it was, more bad placement on our end. We were not using it for security, we were using it to check on the dog during the day. Problem will be fixed today.

So you already have a safe and you still leave an AR and a 45 laying around when you're out of town for the week? Lol, ok then.

Stuff them under your pillow next time. They will never think to look under there.

Yeah, what's the use of a safe if you don't use it.  I keep a 1911 in a biometric safe affixed vertically to the side of the nightstand facing the bed.  With two dogs in the room with us and an alarm and cameras, I have plenty of time to get the little safe open.

There's more to being a gun owner than just owning a gun.

Yep, it’s also good to practice emergency scenarios in your home by quickly releasing your firearm and doing dry runs thru your spaces to identify defensive positions and action plans.

if someone was in my house, I would dispatch them with the upmost equality.

Not really imo.

Thieves know, camera or not, cops are rarely lifting a finger to solve property crimes. Doorbell cameras are everywhere, people are stealing packages now more than ever.

i'd shoot a minority with an additional bullet because they deserve the additional equality. i'm woke like that.

i have a camera prominently displayed in my front porch. we've never had any packages stolen. and my family fucking loves on-line shopping. both my neighbors to the right and left have packages stolen, once on the same day last december where i had packages sitting on my porch.

anecdotal? probably. but it's worked for me.

We are in the same boat, except I don't have cameras. I suspect our families are just lucky.

The safe cannot be gotten to or in quickly should we need it, and yes, the guns were in the safe while we were out of town, but those two were kept there because they can be gotten to quickly. Lesson learned, looking at biometric safe for the bedside now.

This. There is no money to be made here. Writing tickets is where it's at. Gotta protect the public from window tint

Feel bad for the 8 yr old that catches a stray because you can't secure your weapons.

You’re lucky the cop didn’t shoot your dog when you filed the report. They won’t do a thing, but the shag militia is at the ready. Can you post the neighbors video?

Having others know what you have and where they are defeats the primary premise of having/carrying.  THAT is the deterrent.  The unknown.  It is you #1 tactical advantage.  This is why I think open carry is a little silly.  I fully support your right to make yourself a HUGE target...and shake my head in dismay when I see them in public.  We have friends/family over to the house all the time.  They know jack shit about what I have.  That's the point.  Keep the AR in the safe.  Keep the pistol in a tableside safe.  Shit goes sideways.  Use the pistol to the get to the AR.  If you don't have time.  It's better than a 9-iron.

AR > pistol in every conceivable way regarding home defense.  Accuracy.  Ability to operate well.  Sight radius.  Capacity.  Round penetration on interior walls.  Pistols are hard to operate well.  Especially under duress.  Their only purpose is of last resort.  For my LE/military friends, you all know the only point of a pistol is to use to get to your rifle.  That's it.

If you need to keep two firearms at arm's length while home and suffer break ins when you're not there, maybe you should look at moving out of the ghetto.

The list of people that know what I have I can count on 4 fingers. 2 of those live in the house, the other two are my brothers who live in different cities. This was not someone I know.

Any recs on a good/quick biometric handgun safe I can keep in the bedside table?

is it me or do gun nuts have wet dreams about being able to unload copious of ammo from their copious amounts of guns on home invaders and road ragers? it's like gun nuts have video game scenarios rehearsed in their minds every night before they go to bed or get into a car.

This.

Around the cameras too.

1911 easy to conceal. AR? Not so much. Have any teen kids? Start with their friends.

This thread went to shit fast.

The only point of an RPG is to use it to get to your .50 cal machine gun armed amphibious assault vehicle.

Where do you live? If you need to leave firearms out, you should consider moving.
