June 13, 20205 yr I thought the meat quality at Be More Pacific was some of the worst I have seen outside of fast food. That is why my wife hated it. Said the beef she got was slimy and gross. The menu said it was brisket but to me it looked like they were using chuck. I had some kind of fried rice that was good -but you can't really fuck that up.

June 17, 20205 yr Quote In Austin, Food & Wine named Nixta Taqueria among those remarkable restaurants. The unassuming East Austin eatery, tucked away on East 12th Street in Rosewood, opened in October 2019 and has since become one of the buzziest hot spots in the city. The magazine calls co-owners Edgar Rico and Sara Mardanbigi's decision to open a taco spot in Austin "bold" and praises chef Rico's homemade tortillas made by grinding heirloom corn in-house. "I would pay a very large sum of money to once again spend an afternoon tearing through a plate of duck confit tacos at Nixta Taqueria in Austin," Shah writes. Nixta has also had its share of pandemic-induced difficulties. Just a few months into a successful launch, COVID-19 gripped the city, causing the pair to pivot to a take-out only model. "Though they are surviving for now," Shah writes, "Mardanbigi says she feels like they are operating on borrowed time: 'It makes planning for the future really hard.'" https://austin.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/06-17-20-food-wine-nixta-taqueria-best-new-restaurant-2020/?fbclid=IwAR2YuuAqs_4ntgnU25HcgsoKyFVXEzVYs5zKQQJJPgrLI9OgYESHjvMtgys

Bottom line is we need to be able to operate profitable to be able to stay in business. With that said, we are shooting for Saturday, August 1st for the official reopening of Dirty Martin’s. We cannot wait for early August to fire up the grill again and welcome y’all back, our staff certainly missed seeing all of our beloved customers. June 25, 20205 yr Gourdough’s Public House, a food trailer-turned-restaurant known for extravagant doughnuts, on June 22 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It’s just the latest restaurant to hit tough times during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has depressed sales across the industry and created uncertainty about when diners will feel safe packing into dining rooms again. But the filings also show that Gourdough's was hindered by an ambitious San Antonio expansion that never lived up to expectations. “Covid and other business factors have forced an Austin business that was otherwise thriving to have to restructure its debt and other obligations,” said Kareem Hajjar, partner at Hajjar Peters LLP, the Austin law firm representing Gourdough's in the bankruptcy filings. “They have some substantial debt and debt service that got to be too much to try to carry due to diminished sales due to Covid.”
July 2, 20205 yr A brutal day of layoffs at the Alamo Drafthouse, as over 80 employees have been laid off as the Austin-based cinema chain further cuts costs in the middle of the pandemic. Rumors of the layoffs began this morning, and were confirmed over social media by several employees. This evening, the Drafthouse issued this statement: As we’ve looked at the road ahead, it’s become increasingly clear that many positions at Alamo Drafthouse would need to be eliminated, changed, or refocused. This is a devastating step to take. It would be impossible to quantify what these Alamo Drafthouse team members have collectively contributed, and we hope that once things have stabilized, we’ll be able to bring many of them back. https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/screens/2020-07-01/alamo-drafthouse-lays-off-furloughed-staff/
July 2, 20205 yr yeah, Im not sure theaters as a whole are going to survive this at all. Im really starting to think this psuedo shelter-in-place is going to go on for another 6+ months. The only way to socially distance yourself in a theater is to set the seating spots in a 6 foot diamond pattern which in most cases means you cant have anyone within 2 rows of you front or back, and at least 4 seats over. Although remembering a lot of the Alamo theather set ups, they may be able to seat every other row because of the food table in front giving you the 6ft needed. But still the largest Alamo theater is like 12 rows and 20 seats per row. meaning at best the most they could fit in a showing is roughly 35 people. if you allow couples to sit together you might be able to fir around 48. However, their normal 7 row x 16 seat per row theaters can only sit around 16-24 depending on the number of couples.

July 9, 20205 yr Yikes. Numbers do check out -- you stay closed for year or more, it's hard to stay in business. Survey predicts 90 percent of Austin live music venues to close by Halloween The survey, which was commissioned by the Austin Chamber of Commerce in coordination with the Central Texas for Business Task Force, found that bars and live music venues in Austin are the most at risk for closure due to the pandemic. Among other findings: 62 percent of music venues said they would survive four months or less of continued closure 19 percent of music venues were able to pay their full June rent, with 67 percent paying less than half of their rent balance 83 percent of music venues laid off their full-time employees 79 percent of music venues suspended payments to vendors, suppliers and landlords The survey’s summary noted Halloween as the likely milestone by which a majority of Austin’s bars and live music venues will be closed for good. Members of the task force and other involved parties received the data at an online session last Wednesday, with live music advocates hoping the findings will strengthen their push for economic aid specifically designated for live music venues that have an average monthly overhead of $40,000. “Live music venues are far and away skyrocketing to the top of every category in terms of hardest hit, eminent closure, layoffs, trickle-down effects to the rest of the economy in the form of taxes and vendor contracts,” said Rebecca Reynolds, head of the Music Venue Alliance in Austin.
