May 11, 20187 yr Meh. Avery Johnson got fired in the middle of the year and this was coming off an NBA Finals appearance and a 67 win season the prior years. Casey never even got to the Finals. This was a massive failure. They went all out to get the 1 seed and got swept in the 2nd round in a year where the East was there for the taking. Plus, once the coach loses some of the better players, he will be gone. Avery lost Dirk and he got the boot. But Toronto is going nowhere at all with Derozan/Lowry in the backcourt. They need to change that up as well.

May 11, 20187 yr 37 minutes ago, Michael Knight said: How do you fire the coach of the year Everyone knows that winning coach of the year is the kiss of death. This article is a couple of years old, but you can add Mike Budenolzer (2015), now gone from Atlanta to the list. Kerr won in 2016 and D'Antoni in 2017. Kerr certainly isn't going anywhere unless his back gives out and D'Antoni looks great Houston, but the narrative can change pretty quickly depending what happens in the playoffs. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/congrats-on-the-nba-coach-of-the-year-award-by-the-way-youre-fired/2015/05/03/b14f87c8-f136-11e4-8666-a1d756d0218e_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.de04b878f9c5 Quote Here’s a look at the fate of NBA coaches of the year over the past decade (excluding Popovich, honored after the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons): Avery Johnson, Mavericks (2005-06): Fired two seasons later during a year in which he became the fastest coach to reach 150 wins in NBA history. Sam Mitchell, Raptors (2006-07): Fired 17 games into 2008-09 season, one year after surpassing Lenny Wilkens for most wins in team history. Byron Scott, Hornets (2007-08): Fired nine games into 2009-10 season; like Mitchell, lasted barely more than one year after winning award. Mike Brown, Cavaliers (2008-09): Fired one season after leading team to franchise-best 66-16 record; he was 61-21. Scott Brooks, Thunder (2009-10): Fired last month despite .620 winning percentage with team over seven seasons. Tom Thibodeau, Bulls (2010-11): The only survivor of the group, though the yahoos have been calling for his head during dry stretches of this season. George Karl, Nuggets (2012-13): Took the team to playoffs all nine seasons as coach; Nuggets have missed playoffs in both seasons since he was fired.

May 11, 20187 yr I think the shock is getting fired the year they win coach of the year, not a few years after.
May 12, 20187 yr 21 hours ago, Michael Knight said: How do you fire the coach of the year When he loses 10 straight playoff gms to a single opponent. Or when he loses 3 times to lower seeded teams in the last 5 yrs. On the surface, it doesn't look good but when you add those factors its not that unreasonable. Shit getting swept by WAS a couple yrs ago when they had home court would've got most guys fired.
May 12, 20187 yr Sucks for Casey but a change probably needed to be made for the reasons stated above.
May 12, 20187 yr Casey was the wolves coach prior to Toronto. I didn't shed a tear when he didn't work out here He'll catch on somewhere and fail there

May 12, 20187 yr not exactly sure i'd call his tenure in toronto a failure. he couldn't get by lebron, but neither can anyone else in the conference and this is the best stretch of basketball in the history of the raptors franchise.

It absolutely was NOT a failure. He is the best coach in history of the franchise by a large stretch. Just couldn't get over the hump. It wasn't so much that he could beat LBJ it was that they got curb stomped by LBJ. They were never really even close. I think Ujiri bears a large part of that responsibility too though. Putting your franchise in the hands of Fuck Kyle Lowry is very bad idea. Edited May 13, 20187 yr by d2o

Some nice pieces but yea, its a superstar league.
May 13, 20187 yr but i mean there are only like 5 or 6 superstars who really matter (the type who can win a series on their own). hard to blame him for not having one of them.
May 13, 20187 yr Derozan and Lowry are second options guys on any other superstar led team. Toronto won’t win a championship with them ever, and the next coach won’t do any better except maybe getting them to a 7th game Vs. the cavs.

True but you have get your 2nd level guys to understand that they are not superstars and have a system that works. Up until this yr Fuck Kyle Lowry in particularly thought he was a superstar and tried to take over in playoff series when isn't capable of doing so.
May 17, 20187 yr Fucking Trajan Langdon. That's a name I thought (hoped) I'd never see again. Another example of the Cavs stellar draft history.
May 30, 20187 yr Magic hire Steve Clifford. Why not? A retread who has a career sub .500 record on a team that's had more talent than the magic.
