Except the Astros actually cheated. Auburn just beat the SEC and college football at its own game.

If you're trying to use the, "it's not cheating if everyone else is doing it, too" defense, that would certainly exonerate the Astros, too.

They both cheated.  If you're mad at one, you pretty much have to be mad at both.

I’d say the Astros were driving 80, everyone else was drafting off them at 75, the speed limit was 60 or 65.

So are you a Rangers, Yankees or Dodgers fan?

I thought I would make a snarky little comment.  Didn’t think it would generate much response.  I’m bowing out of the Astros discussion on the football board.  We’ll agree to disagree. Back to football.

Look, I get you're all Astros fans and you're going to defend your team.

Auburn and Cam Newton and the Astros and sign stealing is a shitty analogy. I know it's shitty, my neighbor knows it's shitty, you know it's shitty. If you want to make a case for it being on the same level of egregiousness then do it in the Astros thread.

I have learned a few things this week, that even on Surly, a bastion of dumbfuckery, sport and comedy, that systematic racism does actually exists. Wiith the recent revelation that 2+2=4 is a blatant attempt at heirarchical racism. I, a person of color, am now expected to pass a math test on Surly? One that contains tricky percentages, which clearly is an attempt at silencing me, and smacks of institutional racism. All for the simple task of telling you guys to stop being such pussies. College Football games, Texas in particular, are my form of reparations and I takes what I want.

As a proud person of color, and a first generation Cuban-American Latino , I reject your attempt at keeping me on the plantain. Isn’t it enough that your President, Barack, put my brothers in cages, and invaded this bastion of purity with imperial cruise ships?

With apologies to my strong sisters, who everyone knows are the key to winning all elections, I must again apologize in advance when I say that all you dripping hatchet wounds who want to clutch your pearls and feign concern over the well-being of players can all eat a giant bag of dicks. You can’t be lining up to blow Hudson Card and Bijan on one post, where they are, according to you dip-shits, placing their lives at risk because of Covid, and then act like this Guajiro/Campesino/Bumpkin is a monster for pointing out that less than 1% means cock when it comes to risk taking.

Because of this I am going to have to ask BLM draft me a letter with the following demands:

That a patronage fund is set up for this Cubana and Vida Guerra, maybe even a few tasteful statues to be proudly displayed on the West mall.

That any song from the Buena Vista Social Club (I vote Chan Chan) replace that racist railroad song, Wabash Cannonball, only to be performed by the LHB, with some Cuban scholarships so you can get some gitdamn rhythm and flare.  Clearly, Wabash Cannonball is an homage to your slaver/imperialist foundations.

Finally, that Surly replace all explicitly racist handles, starting with the Grand Wizard, Beau Vine with Cuban baseball players names. I think Jose Canseco fits you well Beauregard.

If my demands are not met, I will have to boycott all fund raiser and alumni facing events until some meaningful change is made around here. I know that Tom Herman has my back, because he grew up in a single parent household. This is a learning moment, and I hope you all can join the movement.

I think the point is that steps could have been taken to reduce the spread of a deadly and incredibly contagious disease, but they didn’t do any of that.  We are the only developed nation in the world insisting to live life without first controlling the spread of the virus. Our death toll is embarrassing. We can’t travel internationally without a visa. This is why.

We are also the most non-compliant, free, heterogeneous country in the world. That is currently quite polarized.

Imo, once the shutdown took place in March and April, and most people here got past the initial fear and feeling of unknown, we were never going to shutdown like Europe or SE Asia, and like what happened here early on.

If this country wasn’t so spread out with multiple population centers, perhaps that first, fairly comprehensive shutdown, might have been more effective.

I don't think there's any way forward for the seasons. I think the big xii and acc are at least proceeding with caution. The SEC schools are going full retard.

There's a really good chance this all gets called off by the presidents of universities if students come to campus, there's an outbreak and they send everyone home. It's just stupid to think that 18-22 year olds are doing to make the right choice when we know the big spike in Texas at least was from bars opening back up and drunk people just not caring about anything but partying. When I was 18-22 all I wanted to do was fuck bitches and get drunk.

What the hell else would one expect from the bunch of inbred idiots?

The media will push their fear porn about Covid until November.  It’s pretty simple.  Not that Covid isn’t a serious issue but it has very limited affects to college aged kids so we’re not talking about nursing homes here.  The narrative will change significantly after November.

Jeez, this post got 5 upvotes. Even if you 6 refuse to acknowledge the health threats, do you rubes not understand that the spread of this highly contagious virus will end up cancelling games left and right, if not the whole season, before November, if it’s not contained by mask wearing? Jesus, I can’t believe how many stupid people are out there, and apparently on this site.

This it right here. People are terrified because the media has relentlessly pushed the idea that catching it is a death sentence. It's not. Unless you are old or already sick, it's not even as bad as the goddam flu and we don't breathlessly report every positive flu test that comes back and we sure as hell don't test people who aren't sick outside of medical settings. It's an enormous overhyped nothingburger for most people. Do some people catch it and get really sick? Yes. But that happens with other illnesses, too. This one is not special.

it's only going to cause games to get cancelled if the people in charge panic and overreact. It's not going to kill all the players and coaches. Most of them will catch it and get over it, much like... any other respiratory virus.

As I have said over and over, MLB is doing a great job by not panicking and canceling everything simply because there are positive tests. And they are showing people that infections among the non-elderly and non-infirm are not the big crisis the media has made them out to be.

The presupposition that "People caught it! This is a terrible crisis!" is false.

When UT aligned itself with the SEC to play football, it’s bc it’s fan base is starting to have more in common with the Ole Miss and LSUs, and less the Michigan and Cals like it pretends.

Nobody said it's a hoax. Or an "election year takeout", whatever that means. I think it's 100% real, just overhyped and overreacted to at this point given the data we now have about the risk factors and vulnerable populations.

I think caution was prudent six-months ago. Hell, I was a proponent of "15 days to flatten the curve". Because there was a lot of stuff we didn't know and we were worried it could be bad.

But now that we now what we know, there's no need for society to act like it's the Spanish Flu Part 2. It's super risky to certain populations and very low risk to everyone else. Young and healthy people under age 65 are unlikely to die from it and there are no special complications or symptoms compared to other pathogens and the prevalence of complications does not appear to be that much higher than for other infections, which wasn't that high to begin with.

Plus, treatments have gotten better and fewer people are dying in the hospital like they were in April.

The "hoax" part has to do with the continued hyped reaction to it from the media despite the data to the contrary. If it bleeds it leads and if it makes a divisive republican president look bad, all the better, but there is simply no justification for the continued hype and overreaction given the data we have now. Young people testing positive is meaningless. Most of them aren't going to be sick and none of them are going to die. There is no need for positive tests to be cited as some kind of bad omen or evidence of a "mistake".
