February 13, 20223 yr I bought 45 LC back in October of 21 for 45 for 50 in Oregon. I went and checked to see how prices were in Washington, well....
February 13, 20223 yr I use gunbroker for some hunting ammo i just gotta have.I know its jacked up prices but gotta pay to play sometimes.Nosler partition, accubond or berger vld ammo is hard to find right now.
April 12, 20223 yr Has anyone used this fancy stuff yet? Just grabbed it at Academy this afternoon. $21.99/box of 20. I was wondering how it compares with Federal HST and Speer Gold Dots.
April 12, 20223 yr Apparently there is little to no .44 mag in Alaska. That's convenient. I mean it's not like it's a popular caliber up here or anything.
April 13, 20223 yr Author Has anyone used this fancy stuff yet? Just grabbed it at Academy this afternoon. $21.99/box of 20. I was wondering how it compares with Federal HST and Speer Gold Dots. They’re fine. Softer lead core than the hst.
April 13, 20223 yr Author So, it makes for a bigger splat?Stays together so possibly. Still jacketed. HST rounds are proven penetrators (glass, etc) and these didn’t go through that rigorous testing. In all honesty, all of the self defense rounds are plenty fine for civilian use.
April 14, 20223 yr In my opinion, federal hst are great for expansion retaining weight after passing thru any type of garment. Just my $.02But with good ammo mfg of modern defense rounds, they are all really similar including speer gold dots.

April 14, 20223 yr Called around and finally found some .44 mag in Anchorage. Buffalo Bore heavy .44. $63 for 20 rounds. Insane.
April 14, 20223 yr The Buffalo Bore brand certainly is hefty in price, but so are all the the other magnums. I haven’t seen .357 or .44 anywhere in two years. New Altamont grip panels for the New Vaquero .357....
May 13, 20223 yr For those that follow (I haven’t been to ranch or range since deer season), is ammo still up and largely unavailable?
May 13, 20223 yr Academy usually has a lot of the common calibers at higher prices than pre-pandemic, but magnum loads are still scarce and very high. Ammoseek online can help.
May 13, 20223 yr Walmart hasn't really had anything locally lately. If you shoot 350 legend for some reason down here they might have you covered. They usually have an offering in .308 and I just saw a few boxes of .30-06.
May 13, 20223 yr The .350 Legend supply at Walmart in Southern states being consistently good stems from the fact they don't appears to be inventorying calibers on a regional basis. Straight wall cartridges are the only center fire loads legal for deer hunting in some parts of the Midwest and North East. Very popular up there but not so much in the South and West. Looks like Walmart is shipping a fixed list of calibers to stores regardless of state rules and local demand. If you're in TX and see a ton of 350 Legend and are scratching your head as to why there isn't any .300WM or .270 Win - there is likely some guy in Iowa doing the same - wondering why there are 25 boxes of .270 but not the .350 Legend he and his buddies need.
May 14, 20223 yr lol at 350 Legend. Our Academy has had about 100 boxes from '19 till the last time I was there. Not sure a single one has sold.
May 14, 20223 yr 350 legend would actually be a decent deer and pig cartridge, IMO. The ammo availability almost makes me want to build one.
May 15, 20223 yr Divided up my handgun ammo stash to split with my two sons that like to shoot. The top pic is what they split between them - .22lr, .380, .38 special, .357 magnum, 9mm. (Already had given them all my .45acp, .44 magnum, and rifle ammo). The bottom pic is what I kept (plus 14 boxes of .327 Federal magnum and a couple bricks of .22lr, plus some .22 magnum & shorts).
May 17, 20223 yr Itching for a new pistol. Wanting micro concealable. I own other 9mm, so have ammo. Bought .380 ammo in the frenzy cause, maybe someday? Price is key! Have narrowed it down to Ruger LCP Max and Taurus GX4. Have touched both and prefer the feel of the Ruger, but Ruger is $70 more. What say Shaggy (or whatever you guys call yourselves)? (Should have put this in the gun owners thread, FML) Edited May 17, 20223 yr by Horn_Spanker Retardation
May 18, 20223 yr Wife has that LCP she Carrie’s when she jogs, seems like it has a pretty tight spring.

(Should have put this in the gun owners thread, FML) So I sell guns and work at a range as well. Between those, I’d probably go with the LCP max. I am not a fan of Ruger handguns or Taurus handguns (except the TX-22). The cr920 is what I would get but that’s another $400. But it’s the tits.

May 20, 20223 yr FYI - SG Ammo is having a pretty decent closeout sale right now. Their prices are already pretty good, but some of the sale stuff is 20-30% below that, and they have extremely cheap shipping. Give it a look.
May 20, 20223 yr Shotgunners - Reasonably good deal from SGAmmo.com - all things considered. 200 Round Case - 12 Gauge 2-3/4 Inch 1-1/8 Ounce Number 8 Shot Winchester Heavy Lead Load Ammo - USA128VP $89.50 Each40+ @ $79.50 Each (Free Shipping over $200) Sale Price! This was $119.50. Sale price valid until end of day Sunday May 22nd or while supplies last.
May 20, 20223 yr Crimson beat me to the punch. Other decent deals as well. Potential to save on taxes (depending on where you are) and shipping adds up.

To his credit, that's his shipping charge all the time, even when there's not a sale. Very highly recommend company for me - most stuff will ship the same day and get to Texas customers in just 1-2 days.

I've purchased a ton of stuff from him over the years and have never been disappointed in the price relative to the market or the service. He usually has a lot of Sellier & Bellot in stock, which is often overlooked by casual US shooters and hunters even when there's no inventory of domestic brands. It's quality ammunition.

May 21, 20223 yr What's the best way to dispose of some old ammo in Austin? Is it as easy as calling 311 and dropping some off at the police station? Has anyone ever done that? For example: I have some 308 ammo that is not safe to fire. I just got lazy and didn't send it back to the manufacturer a couple years back. Anyhow...could anyone safely disassemble / use the cases? I don't feel comfortable doing something like that. Or, is there a safe place to destroy / recycle it in Austin? I'm cleaning out / organizing my gun cleaning / ammo.... pretty sure I have some more shit (older 22lr, some 5.56, etc). If you had something you didn't want to shoot...what would you do with it?
May 21, 20223 yr How is it not safe to fire? Just being old isn’t a reason. Really corroded brass or bullet maybe but old is not a problem IMO.

If it’s factory loaded like the 22, you’ll have people crawling over each other to get it. I’ve never messed with it but there are bullet pullers. I’m sure reloading guys would pull it apart and take the brass.

Send an email with lot numbers. You will likely get replacement ammo sent to you. They might want those back too.
May 25, 20223 yr Finally chiming in here, haven't done any shooting in a long time, but need to practice up a bit. I was a big fan of the Browning Hi Power, which just fit me perfectly and pointed like my index finger. Anybody seen any of the new Springfield versions around central Texas? I'd love to check one out.

I don't really need another gun, but I don't have a 9mm for plinking at the moment. No huge hurry. I'll give my 40 some work.
June 1, 20223 yr Any opinions on the Hornady Black ammo? My only choice for hollow points today at Academy. Can't find any Youtube videos on the handgun Black rounds.

June 1, 20223 yr Both. Hmm. My pig rig is a 300 BO with Thermion XM30 and Saker 762 can. I’ve used Hornady Sub X for a while but was looking to go back to supers due to lack of availability of the Sub X at a decent price. I may give these a try.
June 7, 20223 yr Even ammo on gunbroker is drying up. Looking for some 6.8 western, 7-08 and 25-06 partition or berger ammo and its hard to find.Gunbroker can be high but always had some marked up options.
