April 19, 20205 yr If there's already a thread about decent contemporary country music then I apologize, just wanted to start one to share artists that bring back what it should be and what it used to be. Colter Wall does not suck.
April 19, 20205 yr Most anything Tyler Childers is great. Also a big fan of All Your’n for a romantic touch. May as well go in the thread for Sturgill etc but this guys got some jams kindof a Hank Williams Jr feel but I’ve been enjoying this dude — probably not what this thread is for after actually reading the OP Edited April 19, 20205 yr by Etexhorn13
April 19, 20205 yr Author Tyler Childers has some great stuff but yeah, that second one you posted is the embodiment of what I was hoping to avoid in this thread. Not saying it's terrible, it's definitely catchy, but I'm not a fan of the glam pop country stuff
April 19, 20205 yr They’re no longer together, but the Turnpike Troubadours were incredible.Evan came out with that single a couple of months ago. Hopefully that means he’s on the road to recovery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn’t read much into it.That said, a picture of him and a fan in a farm store parking lot surfaced last fall. He was in his hometown, and looked healthy

April 19, 20205 yr one thing I really respect about Surly is someone can start this thread and there is not one post about Sam Hunt or Kane Brown. Surly has good taste in music.
April 20, 20205 yr Country music is just like a Jeep. The new ones suck, but then newer and newer versions come out over time and that formerly new one eventually becomes "the good one."

April 21, 20205 yr Author Y’all are just recreating the Sturgill Simpson thread. If there's already a thread about decent contemporary country music then I apologize
April 21, 20205 yr There is a thread for this. A few actually. But who cares. Might start a thread about Irish music. We will see.
April 27, 20205 yr Seth Ward & The Silence are pretty damn good. My cousin is their lead guitar player. Dude can destroy it.
November 14, 20214 yr Can somebody explain Keith Urban to me. He’s the poppiest artist in the history of country music and has never worn a proper hat in his entire life.
November 14, 20214 yr The Steel woods qualify? I don't follow country nor do I know any modern artists but a friend from Nashville suggested these guys and it was not terrible.
November 14, 20214 yr Another vote for Randall King. I wish he'd get some traction.Good call here Latt. The rest of these dudes. ? No fiddle or steel … not Country just more gravely folk artists. James Taylor without a shower imo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
November 14, 20214 yr The Last Knife Fighter is not too bad Edited November 14, 20214 yr by veritas aequitas

November 15, 20214 yr Charley Crockett has more of a jazz feel but I like his stuff as well. Bonus points for a being a San Benito boy.
November 16, 20214 yr William Beckmann is pretty damn badass. Looks like a little kid, has a wonderful voice. Also has some cool spanish lyric songs (I think his mother's family is from Mexico). Seth Ward & The Silence are pretty damn good. Their guitar player is a cousin of mine. He can absolutely play the shit out of a guitar.
November 16, 20214 yr One more for Randall King. Seen him live a few times and it's great to hear some good honky tonk 2 stepping music. Also been a pretty big fan of Josh Ward. Great to see live and dance to. As far a non traditional I highly recommend Red Shahan.
November 16, 20214 yr Red Shahan is cool. Joshua Ray Walker’s newest album is some of the best honky tonk in a minute or two.
November 17, 20214 yr I’m not sure where to put this. Girl named Tom. All siblings. Her voice is incredible. I think they win this season of the Voice. please listen.
January 5, 20223 yr @Lat22 Hey - Check this out - Mo Pitney.. Think he's 22 or so. Takes a bit to get there. He is his take on the Cherokee Cowboy's "Don't you ever get tired of hurting me"

How does Whispering Bill have more hair than me? FML.

I don't know much about traditional country, but I'd describe his voice as a "honey baritone", like Vince Gill has a "honey tenor". Just a really, really nice tone. I could listen to that guy all night in a place like Gruene Hall. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for posting it. @jimmyjazz Traditional country starts here with the father of country music - Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family (w/ June Carter) and the 'Carter Scratch'
January 5, 20223 yr Well, I know *that* about traditional country. I've listened to the greats, but it's not like my family played it consistently on the radio growing up. (That would be classical.)
January 5, 20223 yr @jimmyjazz You can follow the path of traditional country music by generation. 2nd Generation - Roy Acuff and the Mountain Influence and Honkey Tonk w/ Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell

Too funny.. guess I will get back to work
January 6, 20223 yr Kolton Moore, (Millsap, TX). I put it in another music thread but really like this guys' music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DCQ6EHmk6w
