Featured Replies

I’d like to hire a lawyer to write a letter on my behalf. PM me. Thanks in advance.

Ā

these are the three "go to" lawyers on surly

the last one is especially strong with "threatening letters" (that get tossed in the trash)

who was the lawyer that had lunch with the third?

wasn't he supposed to tell us more at a later date?

I don't remember that

Why do you need a lawdog?Ā  I write strongly worded missives from time to time.

In the event this is serious, a word of general advice from a lawdog:Ā  if the letter you are contemplating is one that will threaten a lawsuit or "legal action" and you aren't willing to take the "legal action," don't bother with the letter.

As a general proposition, people who ignore your demands and entreaties will ignore those from your lawyer, as well.

On occasion, a lawyer letter will work.Ā  More often than not, they don't.Ā  Sometimes, they are necessary as a prerequisite to filing suit, or when you need a lawyer to sort out a complex situation.

Lawyer letters are dumb. *

* unless they are about to drag the recipient’s dumb ass into court for a legal pistol whipping.

Please somebody PM me. I’ll pay you for your time. This is kind of important.

I'd add that writing a good letter can take about as much time, and cost about as much money, as drafting a lawsuit, and the letter won't do shit (except possibly, as you say, satisfy a prerequisite).

I have found in general that it is much harder for them to ignore a letter where you threaten to burn down their house with them in it.

Ohh yeah you will. Ā You’ll get billed half an hour just for the PM reply on this site.

Please somebody PM me.

@MissingInAction , isn't "desperate" your siren song?

I mean, you're no lawyer but it seems all he needs now is a PM.

I'll need an 8x10 of the wife's face. For tribute purposes.

Sent a PM. I'm not a lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.

I'm not a lawyer either, but have impersonated one, as well as a gynocologist, plastic surgeon, and psychiatrist, so I felt deeply moved to send a PM also.
