April 13, 20187 yr Dude wants to replace the ten year old water heater, with Bradford White 40G, and the valve for $1550. Fair? What say you surly mofo's? Edited April 13, 20187 yr by RollLeft
April 13, 20187 yr How did the old water heater die? $1550 sounds way too high for a straight replacement, what's that thing made of, solid gold?
April 13, 20187 yr Are you in Austin? If so, that's a pretty good price. Unless it's in the attic, then it's damn cheap.
April 13, 20187 yr Does that price include dealing with old school water heater closet? Apparently, the new water heaters are shorter and wider such that they don't fit in old water heater closets.
April 13, 20187 yr Author I came home last night to what sounded like a water fall inside the house. Fortunately for me the pan, which was to the brim , was doing its job. The wife said she came home to the sound. So it had done that for a couple of hours. The water heater simply could no longer hold water. The heater is in the attic.
April 13, 20187 yr Holy shit, I bought nat gas one from HD for $450 and had a craigslist dude install for $150, including haul off of old one. My water closet is incredibly easy access
April 14, 20187 yr When we got our last one, our plumber told us we were lucky on the price. Some new regulations are requiring a thicker bottom and more efficiency if I recall. Price was about to go way up. Ours will be dead in about 8 more years by my experience with the old sort of them.
April 14, 20187 yr Aren’t the manufacturers required to add a bunch of insulation to them now? Al the newer ones I’ve seen are bigger around that the older models.
April 14, 20187 yr That’s double the price you should pay. We had a 50 gallon installed in our attic last year for $750.
