San Antonio, on the other hand, does NOT include CPS's total budget in its city budget (it just includes the transfer made to the city by CPS). So, if you want to do an apples-to-apples comparison (both budgets without the expense side of the electric utility, you're closer to the comparison you cite. There are certainly numerous reasons why the Austin budget on a per capita basis is higher than SA's, but that doesn't account for all of it, by far. That is, the per capita budget delta isn't entirely on city government.....but a good chunk of it IS on them. It's not just that Austin hasn't done a great job at managing its budget though (that's a big part of it). Rather, a big takeaway here is that....drumroll....San Antonio is actually one of the best-run cities in the state, probably by far the best run of the large cities. Seriously, lots of folks should look at how SA does things and say "we should do more of that." Nobody's perfect, of course, but SA does things better than most. I've been a consultant for both AE and CPS Energy and in my experience AE is a shit show. Both are publicly owned utilities but one is run way better and contributes way more to the funding of it's citizens. I've also done work for SAWS and had to go before CoSA council before and I agree, San Antonio runs a pretty tight ship that is very cognizant of their citizens opinions. I will say both are better than the shit I dealt with in Houston. Edited January 18Jan 18 by F250
January 18Jan 18 Popular Post She landed a role as Director of Government Affairs at the Meadows mental health policy institute according to Quorum Report. From what I’m told she’s well connected and passionate about mental health policy given her own personal struggles. https://mmhpi.org/staff/mackenzie-kelly/ If I had to say a few things, she’s clearly learned, grown, and become better as a result of her own journey. She will most likely cut her teeth in this role, give up being elected all together and reap the benefits of being a non-profit lobbyist that she doesn’t have to sell her soul to leverage. I was also told by a close friend she had three interviews and beat out over sixty people for this role so it wasn’t handed to her. Saw her bopping around on Tuesday when the opening session was. She was well put together and approached by numerous people in the hallways. We created a monster who is well respected and has changed her ways… hopefully for the better. I was floored. Damn quagmire. That crazy. She let you hit yet or nah?

If you're bored, go look at the bios of the dozens and dozens of the employees listed under their 'About Us' section. Seemingly every other person is a vice president or director of a Very Important Sounding Discipline. But it's rare to find someone that doesn't have at least a graduate degree or PhD in a health related field. Then there's ol' fitlump, who is "currently completing her bachelor's degree in emergency management at West Texas A&M." I guess Harvard just wasn't challenging enough for her. She found her grift. Bravo.

Hey Mackenzie, this is so comically obvious it's you that you might as well come on out and say it. Ten posts ever on surly, exclusively in this thread, and only referencing things that fitlump would know such as the details on her council voting history and this latest gem about her interview process. Own your success! You've come a long way from being a blackout drunk at the Water Tank 4-5 nights a week. Although inquiring minds still want to know how you assembled those bunk beds using a drill missing its battery pack.
January 19Jan 19 It’s funny that some of you think I’m Mackenzie Kelly. Sure, I’ve followed her work closely—especially her op/ed in the Statesman where she’s trying to position herself as some kind of redeeming quality for Austin. And her votes. But honestly, I’ve just got a morbid curiosity about what she’s been doing since losing her seat. I live in District 6 and haven’t seen her at her usual haunts, so it’s been interesting piecing together what she’s up to. For those who actually believe I’m her, though, that’s a stretch.

February 21Feb 21 I find it hard to believe her stalking story. For one, she can't keep anything to herself - we all know this. For another, she would have brought it up during the election for sympathy points and Garza ammo. What are the odds that someone has a lump kink, an obsessive personality, and was arrested but released by the DA?

February 23Feb 23 I think a buddy of mine, who was married at the time, might be looking back at some voicemail messages right now, and getting a good laugh. That being said, there are a lot of nut jobs out there. And if they are stalking get a restraining order. I'm sure she already carries a gun.
