I hope those firefighters are ok.  There are eleven of them reported to be injured.

just read an article that said it was a hash-oil factory, and that the factory were using butane to help heat and separate the chemicals.

Butane blew up and stuck to everything including the firefighters equipment. 2-3 ran out of the building literally on fire and their masks/ vents/ helmets starting to melt.

article didnt say if the butane was listed on the building hazmat manifest.... but it heavily implied the firefighters didnt know those tanks were in there until after they blew

It sounds like a sticky situation. Hopefully, they can hash out the details of the miscommunication during the hot wash and prevent this from happening again.

Csb alert:

About a decade ago I watched a house burn to the ground started by a hash oil making accident and then fueled on by the chemicals onsite.  Firefighters couldn’t control and focused on neighboring buildings.  Thing was completely gone in an hour.  Just an amazing sight. This was a couple of guys making hash oil to sell, so small time AFAIK in regards to scale.

It was an old rundown  victorian in a neighborhood down the street from a pub.

I cannot imagine what a commercial level production facility would be like on fire.

Not cool, at all.

googling what "butane honey oil" is there appears to be a recent article where another similar large scale factory was busted in california with 9,000 pounds of weed and 10 pounds of the oil in  more rural area (near orland).....the photos of the facility looked damn well made though someone had an engineering background to design and built it for sure

the article made it seem as though this product is illegal in california (I know it is a felony in Texas, but legal some places)

is it legal in california does anyone know?....and if legal who in the fuck would allow the permit for this type of operation in downtown LA.....if not legal you have to wonder who would be dumb enough to locate it in downtown LA and how they got away with it for so long

also it seems places like this have been blowing up for decades

Yikes. Shitty video source and not sure if legit

I'm not sure this Smoke Tokes business is following best practices. Check out the date on this article.

In my old company fire rescue squad training, they told us that the bunker gear can take about 10 seconds of direct fire impingement before it starts to burn up.  Those guys got more than that, plus the heat.

I don't know exactly what they were making, but cannabis oil, wax, and cannabis extract are all legal in CA and can be purchased at dispensaries.

Downtown is a bit of a misnomer. Downtown is divided into 3 unofficial zones that somewhat bleed together at the seams: financial district, historic core, and skid row/arts district.

Financial district is the classic downtown.

This fire took place in skid row-a mashup of old warehouses, distributors, and shops.

Sounds like a case of Youth Gone Wild.
