I’m not a frequent volleyball watcher, but is it common for the announcer to be so obviously rooting for one team? I can look away from the TV and tell who wins the point purely by the announcers excitement.

They are a common Texas "team."  They may be kind of pulling their punches a little.  Trying hard to be balanced.
