The olds are scared, brainwashed and hopelessly ignorant about the current state. Trumps just taking advantage of that fact with an assist by Fox News. Pretty sad really.

Ive decided to just tune out for now. See y’all on the other side.

Us tuning out is BEST case scenario for Trump and those that enable him.

We have a job in a representative democracy that requires engagement no matter how painful it’s become.  That pain drives the necessary change to restore sanity.

Why do some twitter quotes hang over the text below, but are opaque, while others completely block the message below?  I'm really starting to lose it with this shit.

Maybe that idiot Oklahoma teacher, who was protesting about the Republicans' school budget by threatening to vote for...Republicans, is actually Swam. You know, slaying the school budget writers and all.

Kinda assumed they already would be posted.  My wife is a federal employee, and her office had a portrait up at noon on Jan 20, 2017.

Yup. When I was growing up in Temple there was an elderly man named "Mr. Wallace" who lived two houses down. He was nice enough, but one day I was over there picking some plums off his trees (which he invited me to do) and his wife brought me inside for some ice-cold lemonade. While inside, Mr. Wallace started showing me various pistols and rifles that he had placed around the house, like under the cushions in his sofa in the living room.  He was saying things like "if they break in through this window, I can grab this one and shoot them. If they come in through this door I can grab this one ..."   etc.... Mind you, this was in a quiet residential neighborhood IN TEMPLE in 1974.  I was only about 12 years old but I was thinking "what is this crazy old man talking about? Who, exactly, is the "they" that he thinks is going to bust into his house?" 44 years later, the Mr. Wallaces of the world are cheering for Donald Trump.

I really thought that story was headed somewhere else after Mrs Wallace invited you inside for some "ice cold lemonade"

Did you follow that link and read the article?

A humble request: Instead of just posting a tweet that is nothing more than a link to an article, just post a link to the article. Quoting the text of the article, or at least some of it, would be nice too.

Yeah, yeah, "point taken," I get it. Just think about it.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says that November's midterm elections will be "challenging" for Republicans, but he can't yet predict the strength of the headwinds.

“This is going to be a challenging election year,” McConnell said in a Tuesday interview with Kentucky Today. “We know the wind is going to be in our face. We don’t know whether it’s going to be a Category 3, 4 or 5.”

McConnell said he’s optimistic his party can hold on to a majority in the Senate but the fight for the House, where every seat is up for election this year, will be more daunting.

Lol, so they really think “not a criminal target” and “not a target” mean the same thing?

Stalin used to do these type dinners except he would do them at odd hours like 1AM.  Most everyone hated them because they would go on forever.

President Trump has taken to hosting a slew of private dinner parties at the White House with friends, lawmakers, conservative leaders and prominent television journalists, according to a Politico report

The dinners often serve as a means of entertainment for the president, and, at times, offer him an affirmation of his own views, Politico reported.

Trump has garnered a reputation as a sort of recluse in Washington, known for fielding late-night phone calls with friends and political allies instead of throwing the high-profile events that have been common for many presidents.

Among those who have dined with Trump at the White House are Patriots owner Bob Kraft, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and New York real estate developer Richard LeFrak.

Fox News host Sean Hannity has also stopped by for dinner, according to Politico. And last month, the president hosted former campaign aides Corey Lewandowski, Brad Parscale, and David Bossie.

The dinners have also become an informal way for Trump to hear advice and do business. This week, for example, he dined with venture capitalist Peter Thiel and Oracle Corp. co-CEO Safra Catz, whose company is vying for a multibillion Pentagon contract.

First Lady Melania Trump is not often at the dinners, Politico reported, citing administration officials.

The dinners are also relatively regimented affairs, and usually begin at 6:30 p.m. Trump occasionally gives guests tours of the Lincoln Bedroom, or shows off other features of the White House, Politico reported.

"One of the things the president seems to miss most is the freewheeling nature of having people stop by. That is part of why he has the dinners - to stay connected," a former White House official, who has attended some of the dinner parties, told Politico.

They also don’t understand how immaterial and fleeting those specific labels are.

Trump is carrying the proud tradition of portraying immigrants as "floods" and "swarms," like a malicious invasive species.

They also have very specific legal implications. At least in certain contexts, you can be compelled to testify under oath in civil matters, but as soon as the prosecutor drops the magic words that the testimony can lead to “criminal” matters, you can shut down the entire thing and plead the 5th.

Seriously, the tweet blasts are annoying, esp given the boards current technical difficulties. Provide a link, quote some text that you want to highlight, or better yet spoiler tag the article for us, and maybe provide a bit of original thought at the same time. JMHO.

Apparently I neglected the expected high posting standards required on surlyhorns.

You can't reply to tweet embeds without making the board unreadable. If you haven't noticed, tweets are fucking up the board at the moment, and you are the single biggest tweet embedder. You can go back to mindless re-tweeting the board with your feed once the technical difficulties get ironed out.

I spent too much time thinking about this sort of stuff. I was actually dreaming about the elections last night. My dreams said Democrats pick up 56 seats

regarding the target/subject discussion, here's the summary paragraph of a po pat (ken white) explanation:

Given Mueller's caution (applying for judicial approval whenever necessary) and standard methodology (developing the case through subpoenas and interviews, catching suspects in lies and using those lies to flip them as cooperators, steadily indicting new defendants as they become vulnerable), the most reasonable explanation is that he means what he says — Trump is a subject. That doesn't mean he's made a determination that Trump won't be indicted, or that it's unlikely he'll be indicted, or that he hasn't committed crimes or wrongdoing. It doesn't reflect a judgment on whether there has been a crime. It means he's not there yet. Calling Trump a subject is completely consistent with continuing to pursue evidence that would move Trump into the target column. It doesn't reduce Trump's exposure at all. It doesn't change the dilemmas his godforsaken criminal defense lawyers face. It doesn't reduce the manifest dangers of him making a statement to Mueller. It doesn't stop the process or the process stories or the steady rolling-up of Trump associates for various crimes and foolishness.

what it means that trump is only a subject

sorry if elsewhere posted.  didn't see.
