No he’s correct. Plenty of normal guys I fish with. Don’t follow politics, don’t read long-form journalism, maybe a bit of Fox News etc. They aren’t cruel or hateful either. Just enjoying the F250, house on the West End/ or POC and the deer lease. Millions of willfully ignorant out there.
Unfortunately Democracies require a well informed electorate.
In that regard we are fucked.

Bingo

Nah, they got their anti-Hillary hate somewhere.  Likely Rush.  They're not passive observers enjoying their deer leases and F150s (mind the recall, please).

Got into it with a family member and it devolved into Beto is a socialist and hates America and ANTIFA and communism and only conservatives can be Christian. He paid into the system so his healthcare and pension was earned and is not a form of social welfare and everyone else is a socialist and all Ted Cruz and Donald Trump want to do is to keep America America. It was down right demoralizing.

Ooh, “only conservatives can be Christian” is one of the top bullshitteries that triggers Buzzrock

That's because Jesus was the ultimate Liberal (capital "L").

Not easy calling your pops out, you know what I mean?

Pro-tip for talking to old people: Don't fight them, just talk to them like they're already on your side. Racists don't think, "I'm a racist", so what you do is talk about how much better they are than all those stupid racists out there and how people like them don't have those kinds of terrible beliefs. (Even though they do, because they're also racists.)

It's condescending and the intellectual equivalent of patting them on the head and saying, "Bless your heart.", but they are old, their brains don't work quickly and they love attention.

My mother voted for Trump because he wasn't Hillary.
Two years later, she absolutely loathes Donald Trump. She won't be voting for him again.
I imagine there are a lot of people like that.

I agree with this as well. The second part, I don’t know anything about your mom. As far as you know.

Disagree. She unlikeable enough, add in a few casual conversations around the campfire about D = taking guns and that’s all you need for them to punch straight R. A few sound bites about going after China and they are all in.
My grandparents are stuck in the Small Town, America bubble and are active members in a small Christian congregation. It's amazing how they are looking the other way on all of the things Trump does purely because they have been convinced that the Democrats want to destroy Christianity and legalize sin. They are both in their 80's.

I have been sitting on a very long diatribe about the decline of the status of elders in modern society, but I haven't found the right thread for it, yet. There has been a massive societal change in something that has been a norm for literally all of human history and I haven't seen any articles that talk about it. The elders have made themselves obsolete and a danger to society by their inaction. If I didn't have 5 hours of studying left to do for the weekend, I'd sit down and hash it out.

Hasn’t that always been the case? It seems like olds have always been conservative and scared and out of touch.

I honestly don't think that comes close to explaining the anti-Hillary vitriol.  There is a ton of stoked conspiracy theory behind it all.

Chill on this, some posters are trying to give you accurate intel.  Keeping 5,10 or 20k in taxes is a really powerful motivator for some folks.

Yea the “unlikeable” thing is largely bullshit driven by decades of conspiracy, false accusations, and crazy people on the radio not liking her because she was married to Bill.

Who are these people keeping 5,10 or 20K in taxes?

Wut?

Note to self: don’t start watching TV and trolling Facebook when you’re old. Stick to books and travel.

I find myself wondering if social media will face a backlash at some point.

Probably not. Human ego plus an instant free podium will always be appealing.
I want to legalize sin. For reals who is against that?!?

There are absolutely brilliant, educated people who think like that.

She’s plenty unlikeable. But that’s another thread.

It amazing that there are still people here tilting about how hillary wasnt a terrible fucking candidate. Sober up guys. /youfirst.

Worst candidate of all time. And agree with the second part.  With the exception that we would be engaged in murdering more brown people under hilldawg.

In fairness, he’s actually one of the admin officials who typically WOULD spend time in Russia. That’s utterly consistent with the duties of the DOE.

She was a bad candidate however the “unlikable” moniker is made up bullshit. She’s a bad candidate because she was a neo-con who didn’t seem to steadfast in some of her positions.

No, it’s not. She was utterly untrustworthy with no platform or message but “it’s my turn.” She’s fake and untrustworthy and defined entirely by her own ambition. Hell, she’s a female, dem Ted Cruz.

But it don’t matter - all that, and she’d still have been a better president than Trump. But she’s not, so why does it matter? She’s literally history.

So you find her likable.  It's like you and Hugo are the only people occupying that corner.

You just described politicians entirely. Look I’m not saying I would be friends with her but this ridiculous assertion that she is so much worse than every other politician is a fucking joke. She’s a politician and acts like one.

And like you said it doesn’t fucking matter. Her being unlikeable is the excuse dumbfucks use to justify voting for trump which is laughable

Absolutely, finally something to fill in that that dead air between the latest natural disaster and the next school shooting.

I have a lot of family exactly like this.  They have a comfortable life.  They figure everyone else who is not enjoying a comfortable life is not trying, is lazy or whatever.   But in their defense, getting your own was drilled into a lot of baby boomers by the golden generation.  I am talking white, mainly.  So in their minds they did it right and don't understand there are other sides to the story.    They don't consider themselves racists.  They consider themselves as people who worked hard to get ahead.  All the others of different races that didn't do that, well, they are just too lazy or were brought up wrong.    You mention white entitlement, then you get affirmative action and welfare queens tossed back at you.

They are dug in hard,  and are in dread of losing what they worked so hard for.  That the government is going to take all their stuff and redistribute it.  They refuse to see that they are already doing that, just upward, not downward.   But like BTR said, they are too busy living the American dream to slow down and really open their eyes.   Lot of them are too busy making payments on things they really don't need.

They are pundits. And there is nothing wrong with that. But to be a serious journalist you can’t care who wins. To argue otherwise is silly.

Not sure I agree with your history of journalism there. You think journalists were standing on the sidelines against McCarthy, Vietnam War, Watergate, Iran-Contra? You think Cronkite reported both sides objectively, when one of those sides was obstructing justice or blackballing people?

As long as journalists have eyeballs, they’ll root against corruption, malfeasance, liars. It’s why the best journalists do what they do.

My comfortable life is a direct consequence of my parents' efforts, and to some degree those of their parents.  I have no illusions that my ability to attend college and secure multiple degrees is "my doing", other than I was blessed with enough intelligence to get into and get through school.  My own efforts are well down the list of reasons why I have succeeded.  Not zero, but that leg up was huge.

Then again, I'm not a conservative.  Maybe I just see things more clearly.

I see nipple

Fat Orange Man demands partiality to him or be labeled the enemy.  That's actually dangerous at times.  Just reading his tweets informs a person how shitty of a human being he is.

Not quite sure what you're asking.

2018 federal income tax changes are going to affect a large chunk of the tax paying population, hence, my post.

Maybe I should have clarified, that savings (due to tax law changes ) will  be 5,10, 20K, etc.

As other posters have noted, for some Trump supporters (mostly apolitical), the tax issue is all they care about.

Well, yeah, she doesn't need universal health insurance, a living wage, affordable education or anything else she ran on.  She's not running for her though.  When Trump won, she won as well financially.  By this measure, Warren should be unstoppable but, wait, what?  She's an unlikeable bitch as well as is K. Harris?  Help me, I'm seeing a pattern.

One billion percent my sister and her husband.  Frat boy from UT who is smart and owns his own engineering company.  At dinner tonight he made an off-hand comment about people who don't work hard for what they earn and want everything given to them.  He didn't even think about it, he just does it as easily as breathing.

I'm probably upper 2% and I'll be paying more tax, so no, I don't know what you're talking about.  It's a tax break for the extremely wealthy.
