I wasn’t sure what thread put this in, but this guy was a favorite of mine. He sparked my interest in talk radio at a young age. Sad day.

Art Bell got me through many long nights on a nightshift job I used to have.  Loved Coast to Coast.   He had such a great voice for that show too.  I thought he was way older than 72 though.  I would've guessed mid 80's.

The autopsy will be performed at this facility:

Art was great theater to listen to on the way back home from late night road trips. One of the true legends of radio.

I have listened to his show many many times.

Now he finally knows...

Like many others here, I used to travel five days a week and would listen to his radio show late at night in my rental car driving through the deserts of the western US.

Kept me company and awake, R.I.P.

The thing I loved about Art was that he was kind to every caller and guest. No matter how crazy they were even if he didn't believe them he would never say so.

Doesn't need to be buried. Just throw some more sand on top of his bunker in the desert.

Loved that dude, all those late night drives back to campus coming home from road trips. . . .My FIL was a featured guest with George Noory so this sorta hits close to home?

Nice.  What was he on there for?

I'd go with alien anal probes unless BearSchlong says otherwise.

When ever I heard this music on the radio, I knew I was going to learn something new....

Hitler was a miget, a radioactive midget only .7m tall. He ate only anklin spores. He drank only prune juice.

You know of course that Art had a brother, Ted, who owned a steakhouse.

Andy K and Art ah yes now we know.

Wanna take a ride?

I remember him going on the Stevens and Pruett show back in the day. Always had some freaky stories.

Oh so he went to Pikefest?

CIA/Chicago mob killed JFK stuff.

Was this in the last 6 months or so? 'Cause I think I heard that show. Was he the guy who told the story about GHWB?

oh no it was early 2000s

Roger that. The guy I'm thinking of was from your neck of the woods, I remember that much. It's been in the last few months and I'm not sure what the actual topic was, they were just kinda shooting the shit when the story about Bush came up. Now that I think about it he may have been Secret Service. Maybe CIA. Definitely not your FIL. Definitely NOT. You hear that Mr. Schlonginlaw? I know NOTHING!

I'd never heard of this guy or his show.  Friend of mine and I are driving back from Dallas to Knoxville in the middle of the night circa 1997.  I come across this show.  People are calling in live with updates about an alien invasion.  One guy's calling in from Mockingbird and Skillman (Dallas intersection) and describing this ship hovering over the city.  I freak the F out and punch my friend awake.  I guess I fell for a modern-day "War of the Worlds" but hell, that drive sure did fly by.

I either listen to Coast to Coast to fall asleep or a podcast.

RIP

A true innovator, with CtC being one of the last remaining unique things out on public media. Amazing legacy. RIP wherever you are...

I don't know about the whole week but last night was tribute to Art Bell night with George Noory. At the very end of his show he played a recording of the show that Art did about when his first wife Ramona died. They also had an interview with a friend of Arts, I think the guys name was Danyon(?) at least that's how they pronounced it. He mentioned that Art died with a one year old son from his second wife Airyn. All in all it was a different sort of show for CtC but still good.

Always got a charge how Art's show started with some barritone voice who declared "Live from the kingdom of Nye...."
