"Boldly iterating"

Yes, so courageous to revert safely back to what worked just fine for 50+ years and didn't need changing in the first place.

Hollywood yet again inspires me to aspire to live so boldly.

I suspect the grandchild of the guy behind "new" coke was behind this great idea.

Taking a chainsaw to your brand like that never made any sense at all to me.

I *get* the idea was that the Max app was the umbrella of WB properties - streaming-only originals produced by HBO, Food Network, Magnolia, Cartoon Network, TBS/TNT/TruTV + live sports, TLC, Discovery, Animal Planet, HGTV, etc. - and they wanted to differentiate it from HBO televisional programming (which aired on Max as well).

It was just dumb and HBO GO was the ideal name all along.

Completely rebranding like that is something only aggy would do.

It was another example of the collective stupidity of corporate America.  I’ve seen so much of it in my life.  The same brain disease enabled the Edsel, killed Aunt Jemima, and fast tracked Ishtar.

if they used Home Box Office, which was a perfect brand for their service when it launched, I wonder how many know what a box office is these days.

Their app is absolute piss. I reinstalled it on my PS5 three times and it still fucks up always. I have to reboot the console to get that steaming pile to function. Already cancelled of course.

Only if they also bring back the hard fake tits and matching tiny areola nipple combo prevalent in the 90s

My three favs were naturals:  Beverly Lynne, Susan Featherly, and Brandin Rackley.

That‘s because you’re running it on a ps5.

Never had an issue with their app, aside from a couple minor bugs when they switched the branding/ui.

Yep. It’s rarely an app issue. It’s what hardware you are using.

From my experience, AppleTV optimizes pretty much every app the best. I rarely, rarely have an issue with anything.

95% of the time, it’s hardware. Blaming the software is just dumb. Yes, some apps suck in general, but running streaming apps on video game consoles isn’t usually that great

I would bet the % of Max’s viewers using a PS5 is pretty minuscule compared to Roku, Firestick, AppleTV

If I pause a show for a certain period, the AppleTV app freezes up with just an endless spinning wheel with the only way to stop it being to back out of whatever program I'd been watching and then pushing play again. It's a minor inconvenience, but none of the other apps (MAX, Netflix, Disney, Prime) doing that.

My Apple TV just ended up being a brick for the most part. I snagged one of the Amazon Fire Cubes during one of their big sales and I have to say, it's pretty good. Zero issues. Much better than any Fire Stick I've used.

Try using your Gameboy and get back to us.

I switched to Fire Cubes a couple years ago and they have been solid. Only complaint is that occasionally an app update will mess some app login and I have to clear the app cache or reinstall it to fix it. Happens maybe once a year. Otherwise they are very responsive, and I haven't experienced any lockups or lagging, which a lot of TV OSs do.

are the Fire Cubes a lot better than the Fire Sticks? I've always used the sticks and they've worked great

Yeah, tell me more.  I have a Hisense TV (primarily used for gaming) in my office and the built-in UI is so fucking awful, I never use it for anything but gaming.

Oh god yes, the stick is great for travel and wireless only purposes. The cube has an Ethernet port, so better/stable connection option, has a ton more space and memory, and a larger processor for dealing with the apps. It is a significant upgrade in response times for actions like switching apps, startup time, updates, etc.

I also recommend checking your Amazon account for hardware trade in options as you send an old echo dot or stick in to get like $25 off a new Cube.

Yes

my one previous complaint about Max was that it was one of those apps where I had to turn the volume up to like 80 to achieve a reasonable volume. However somewhere along the line I guess it was addressed, now it's a more normal 40-55 like most every other app.

Apple TV is the best in my biased opinion.

My new TV has Google TV UI and I find it better than most Ive used. Its actually almost too snappy.

My 80 year old parents still use it.

Their privacy policy changes a year ago sealed their fate. I had 5 in the house, all have been replaced with appleTV's.

And for the better, at that. aTV's put out a very nice picture, in whatever the best available format for your tv is. Whether that's HDR, HDR10, or Dolby Vision.

Oh I agree. 2 of my 3 TVs have one attached. Just exploring other options than spending $130 for a TV I don’t use that often for anything but gaming

I use rokus on our two older tvs.  I like it more than Samsung’s ui

we put rokus on all our tvs (the low-end one that was $25) and haven't looked back. and we never have any issues except for the end of game of thrones, but that was more of a script issue.

Except the Hulu app. It sucks on Apple TV and sucks on iOS.

All of our TVs are Roku.  It has several advantages we like and features get better. Any of my sets without Roku have a Roku stick.

I have Roku on some TVs; other devices/integrations on other TVs.  Roku was founded by Texas A&M graduate Anthony Wood.  Fwiw.

Have a Roku, 2 Fire Sticks, a Fire TV, and did have two Apple TVs in the past. They all have pluses and minuses.

What drives me nuts about the
Max app is it can’t properly remember the last episode I watched of a program. Sometimes it does and sometimes it loses it all.  Very irritating.
