Where they also affiliated in some way with the original Matt's? They served Bob Armstrong. I remember liking it. But I also was not that far removed from poor law student's taste buds. I'm not sure. When I first move to Dallas there was a Matt's in Lakewood as mentioned above and one in Allen. The one in Allen closed shortly after we moved to Allen over a decade ago. The Lakewood location closed sometime in the last five years due to rent costs (what I heard) and probably what was mentioned above. I think they were this same offshoot of the family. This location that recently opened again in Allen lists another location in Royce City on their website. They have the bob armstong dip, that rellano with raisins, and chicken fired steaks like the OG. https://mattstexmex.com
October 27Oct 27 Born in Cleburne, an old railroad town. Cleburne is known for it's really good burgers. Burger Bar, Morris Neal's, Grump's (relatively new, we have one in Granbury as well). Morris Neal's seems to be an extended family favorite, but I have one uncle that says he thinks Barrera's Mexican Restaurant serves the best burger in Cleburne. If so, it must be absolutely fantastic, because Burger Bar, and Morris Neal's ain't no slouch. I mean, I put them up there with Herd's in Jacksboro. CHIEF

Mattitos calls the Bob Armstrong "Special Dip," so that kind of indicates they've been cut out of the family tree. Edited October 27Oct 27 by TwiceHorn

That was my growing up Los Tios on Kirkwood and Memorial! If we hauled ass from Westchester we could barely get in and out during lunch time. Margs are pretty strong, but not too terrible tasting.

Truly, I'm waiting for the day the hipsters discovery the real-deal, cheap, affordable and amazing places along N. Lamar between 183 and Walnut Creek. Once that dam breaks, the area will be gentrified to shit within 10 years. Shhh What was the name of that Southern comfort food place that shut down there before the pandemic? It was so good.

I remember the first firm I worked with loved a couple restaurants. East Austin Mexican places which were great. Soul Food places like Gene's and that place off of 290, Dot's? Then we would eat at Threadgil's once a week and it sucked. Shitty fried redfish and fried okra.

You know what was fucking fire was that Bennigan's across the street from the Barton Springs location.
October 28Oct 28 Threadgills was fine. We mostly stuck with the sides (you could get a plate of 3 or 5). Best items were spinach casserole, garlic cheese grits, butter beans, scalloped potatoes, and San Antonio squash. Greens were good enough, and back in the day, they had a Cajun Italian eggplant casserole that was really good.Entrees were nothing special. Their meatloaf was good, as were the fried chicken livers. And when they made their biscuits fresh, they were outstanding. I’d eat a fresh one with honey. But then they quit making them fresh, and went to frozen or some shit, and that was the beginning of their real slide.Their location was south of 183, though - right by the Yellow Rose.

That tells me all I need to know about the state of that town.
