September 8Sep 8 Doesn’t Pappas own Luby’s now ? To me that is a chain that can come back with a vengeance with right locations. I am all for it. Edited September 8Sep 8 by Steamboat1874
September 8Sep 8 My grandparents lived in Temple. I can't tell you how many times we ate with them at the Picadilly in the Temple Mall. And I ain't complaining one bit. Drove up Steck toward Mesa for the first time in a while last week, and shed a tear for the flatness that was once Luby's.

Probably ate 100+ meals at the PIccadilly inside Parkdale Mall in Beaumont growing up. There's still one in Denham Springs not far from my in-laws house. One of these days the wife and I will have to stop in during a visit. I'm sure the nostalgia will be better than the actual food. Edited September 9Sep 9 by Storm the Field

September 19Sep 19 You savages need to order the gravy on the side, and pour it on right before you eat it. Keeps the breading crispy.

You're a mysterious and unusual man, and I do not understand your ways. This was a paired combo including sliced potatoes with onions + 2 sides. That and I like scalloped potatoes with onions. They go great with cream gravy ... few things don't right. They had the same combo with chicken fried chicken. My standard order since I was a tyke going through the Wyatt's Cafeteria line is CFS, mashed potatoes with cream gravy and corn + dinner roll. I'm a little more variable these days with my sides but I seldom omit mashed potatoes with gravy as one of them. So if it hadn't come with the scalloped potatoes, it would have most likely been mashed potatoes paired up with whatever looked good to me on a given day. I find the fried okra to be hit and miss at Luby's though and today was no exception. Probably won't get them again. Have far better luck at BBQ joints and southern cafes with fried okra being fresh and on point.

September 24Sep 24 Damnit, I need to hit up Luby's. I can't decide between the fried fish and liver and onions.
September 25Sep 25 Get the liver and onions. It’s something you can’t get most places and unless you’re single can’t cook at home either.

I cook liver and onions on my back porch burner. To be fair, I make my wife grill her salmon or whatever fish she is eating out there too! Nobody has time for those smells.

Almost led to a divorce, so yes, a side burner on the gas grill is almost as valuable as a side piece. 😂

Guys....it's fantastic. It's a shorter serving line and limited menu. Like today, the entrees were roasted turkey, roasted chicken, chopped steak, cheese and bacon-topped chopped steak, baked fish, fried fish, and CFS. Sides included fried okra, mac and cheese, rice pilaf, green beans, corn, and spinach. Luann with an iced tea set me back like $13 - not bad at all for a downtown lunch. There was a crowd. We found a place to sit, but tables ended up full. I will be back. It was a nice treat.

November 14Nov 14 Oh, and shame on me -- I forgot to mention that they also had cheese enchiladas on the entree line. They looked glorious.
