Despite billions of dollars of research, Death does continue to be the nation's #1 killer of Americans.  Although there is no known treatment or vaccine for death, you can acquaint yourself with the early warning signs of death.

2) A rotting smell

3) Occassional drowsiness

Good day in Travis County in terms of hospitalizations with 287 people hospitalized (first time below 300 since July 27th)

I still wonder how many of those hospitalizations are from folks in adjacent counties.  Still, you like to see that downward movement.  [insert joke about my mom.]

This data is available, at some point over the past couple of months, someone posted a link to a dashboard that included it.  But I don't recall who posted it, or where the data was found.

Unless you are Peter Frampton

Explaining jokes is the suck, but from the celebrity death thread:

Hamzy linked up with her first musician that night — Steppenwolf drummer Jerry Edmonton — but she confirmed to Joan Rivers that she lost her virginity to Frijid Pink drummer Rick Stevers. As she told Howard Stern in 2010, “The drummers gravitated to me because they wanted to hear about John Bonham and Keith Moon…I haven’t had Neil Peart. That I regret.”

In addition to Bonham and Moon, Hamzy claimed to have been with Huey Lewis, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Eddie Van Halen, Paul Stanley, Dr. John, Vanilla Ice, Dan Fogelberg, Neil Diamond, all three members of ZZ Top, and more. In both her Stern interview and the documentary Let’s Spend The Night Together: Confessions of Rock’s Greatest Groupies, she was quoted saying that Peter Frampton was “the smallest.

“They’re passing you around like a plate of potatoes,” Stern told her. “Well, a plate of good potatoes,” she replied.

So are we still in a window of possible cases arising out of ACL Weekend One? Or is it safe to say it does not appear to be a super-spreader event that would bump our numbers up?

We've had 3 football games at DKR with cases steadily dropping. I don't think ACL would be any different.

I don’t think it’s showing yet, also though I don’t think outdoor events really do a lot in terms of cases etc. I’d be more worried if ACL were indoors.

These.  I just don't think that primarily outdoor events are going to have a material effect.  SOME of the associated indoor activities might (people in town for football game crowding into bars that night, etc.), but the numbers at those activities are much lower than at the big outdoor event, so it just may not have a big effect, number-wise.

Lowest day for new cases in Travis County since mid July with 162 cases today. There were 22 deaths for the week ending Oct 8th which is 8 more than last week but still less than the 4 week run that we had in the low to mid 30s throughout September.

Deaths break down as follows:

20 to 29 (1)

30 to 39 (1)

40 to 49 (2)

50 to 59 (6)

60 t0 69 (7)

Below is case breakdown for Friday

Maybe this coronavirus can't be a superspreader anymore. It is quite possible that the vaccine works to prevent disease as does prior exposure in many individuals. I guess we will find out this winter.

If there's any chance of a vaccinated person getting COVID at an outdoor venue, fucking ESPN Gameday should keep its own stats.

SETex numbers continue to improve. The last four days of new hospital admits has been 128, 104, 105, and 114. Confirmed+suspected Covid patients make up 10% of general bed usage and 22.7% of ICU beds. In the 27 county region there are about 8,500 general beds available (not counting the additional surge capacity) and about 100 ICU beds available (not counting the surge capacity). Note that ICU beds are almost always near full capacity.

this is the true up from Friday. 614 cases from Friday through Tuesday for Travis County

Would be nice heading into the winter and flu season.

My firm just announced that its moving back to 75% capacity on Oct. 20.  We still require masks in all common areas.

Does Stage 2 mean mask mandates in school get lifted or would that only be for those 12+ and vaccinated?

Stage 3 means my preschool no lets helping parents in the class again with masks... yay (lol)

My kids are interesting in playing on the playground again with children outside of their specific class room.  I think that gets triggered at stage 2.

Here's the verbiage from the county judge that allowed the mask mandate to get reinstated in Travis county.

NOW THEREFORE, I, COUNTY JUDGE OF TRAVIS COUNTY, PURSUANT
TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED BY TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE CHAPTER 418,
HEREBY FIND AND ORDER THAT:

Effective as of 12:01 a.m. on August 12, 2021, and continuing until modified or
terminated by the Travis County Judge or as otherwise indicated below:

1. Face Coverings Required. Students, staff, and visitors over the age of two (2) are
REQUIRED to wear a face covering while on school property or school buses during Stages 3, 4, and 5 as set forth in Austin Public Health's Risk-Based Chart attached as Exhibit A. A face
covering is a form of covering that fits snugly over their nose and mouth, such as a commercially
made or homemade fabric mask, scarf, bandana.

2. This Order shall cover all public schools, including public chatter schools in Travis Co

I'm highly skeptical they will keep to the criteria they originally laid out because "what we're doing is working!"

I dunno. If we can get to and stay in Stage 2 when the vaccine is available for the younger kiddos, I can see the City and County pulling back on the mask mandate. But maybe not until after the holidays.

Not a great day for Travis County in terms of cases with 410 today (this is versus 141 last Wednesday)

Good news on hospitalizations at 202, further good news is there have been 10 straight days of declining number of hospitalizations. Hopefully today's case spike is a one off vs a reversal. Interesting is to see the jump in 40 to 49 age group vs their norm. I expect this to be driven by all the Westlake & Tarrytown moms that showed out at ACL trying to impress their daughter's friends (I actually don't really believe this, just making fun.)

Better day for Travis County today with only 147 new cases (down ~70 from this day last week). This is good to see after the big one day jump yesterday.

Of course we are all going to die from Zika, West Nile and/or Bovine Encephalitis from the massive explosion in the mosquito population following yesterday's rains so Covid doesn't matter any longer.

F1 next weekend is going to bring the masses, and while the races are outdoors, a lot of folks will be packed into hotels, bars, and restaurants.  But ACL Fest arguably rose to the same level the past two weekends and all hell didn't break lose, so maybe this Delta wave is running its course and it won't really make a difference.

I'd have given you a Crying +1 response if such a thing existed.

I was at W1 ACL and no one gave a shit about seeing my vaccine card, masks (except for the merch store) or social distancing.  An interesting theory I read for the brief jump in cases was potentially all the attendees getting tested before Friday with some sadly showing positive.

There has to be some spread from it, people were jammed together for headliners with almost no masks.  Hopefully most were vaccinated or really did take the tests, and the downward trend continues.
